In 1941, when the Flygvapnet (Swedish Air Force) was equipped with a mixture of fighter aircraft of Italian and US origin. The resulting design was of unusual configuration, low-wing monoplane having moderate wing sweep, with central fuselage nacelle to accommodate the pilot on an ejection seat and a rear-mounted powerplant in pusher configuration, twin booms extending aft from the wings. When introduced into service in late 1945 as the J21A-1 the new type was the only pusher-engined fighter to become operational during World War II, a total of 299 before production ended in 1948.

Heinkel He 114 in German Service
Designed to relace the Heinkel He 60 on German warships, the Heinkel He 114 floatplane was not a great success and was soon replaced by the Arado Ar 196.
He 114 floatplanes were used aboard the hilfskreuzer (auxiliary cruisers or raiders) Atlantis, Pinguin and Widder with each equipped with two He 114. They made extensive use of these aircraft during their raiding careers in 1940-41, until the aircraft were lost or worn out.

Arado Ar 196 A-2 Floatplane

The Arado Ar 196A-2 entered production in November 1939, after the production of the initial batch of 20 Ar 196A-1s was complete. Production continued until December 1940 when it was replaced on the production line by the A-4 after 85 had been completed.
Powered by a BMW 132K nine-cylinder 960 hp radial engine, armament was improved by adding two 20 mm MG FF cannon in the wings, and a 7.92 mm MG 17 machine gun in the cowling in additional to the A-1s single 7.92 mm MG 17 machine gun at the rear of the cockpit. It could also carry two 50 kg (110 lb) bombs under the wings or two depth charges for anti-submarine warfare.
