In this case- since gems don’t age and they’re immortal, we as fans basically “apply” ages to them based on how they act, and this can vary from person to person as well. Spinel is heavily teen-coded, meaning that she has the mentality of a teenager, so she wouldn’t be an “adult”. But to some people Spinel may be seen as adult-coded, which is probably a big factor as to why some people dislike the ship, but we Stevnel shippers don’t see it like that.
