Breath halted in her throat as stormy hues took in the amount of people corralled in the Grill. No one she recognized right off the bat–then again, she’d only been living here since late December. The only person she knew was Jeremy, and he was no where to be found despite convincing her to at least make an appearance. Her gaze immediately caught the bar, where others that stood out clung to the edge like a lifeline. “Yeah…I’m gonna need a drink too.”
Stiles had gone to get a drink, which was something he definitely needed at this point. Leaning against the counter of the bar, Stiles tried to catch the bartender’s attention when a girl appeared next to him. Turning his head around, Stiles tilted his head a little to the side at the words coming from the unknown female as she had approached the counter herself. “Seems like a lot of people need a drink today.”

“If someone slipped in a bit of a love potion, do you know how absolutely gaga these people would be come?” PIty he didn’t know a witch who would help him with that. Ah, oh well.
“Pretty sure slipping in a bit of a love potion isn’t the smartest thing to do.”

Rowan felt her expression reflect her internal wince, the shrieking wavering notes of someone singing Silly Love Songs clearly doing wonders for everyone’s ears. “Definitely not getting up there and singing–but I’d be down to try my hand at the bow and arrow thing.”
“I don’t think that dude should have gotten up there and sung either, but here we are, listening to someone who honestly sounds like a tortured cat.”

Jenna looked down at the cup she held, licking her lips slightly. “Yep,” She concluded, setting the plastic cup down. “Someone definitely spiked the punch.” Scoffing, wiping her hands of that, as she turned slightly to the person next to her. “People are still doing that?”
“Yeah, of course they are,” Stiles spoke and laughed, shaking his head gently as he looked down at his feet, the red cup placed securely in his hand. “I – I don’t think spiking drinks is going to be something that we’re going to see disappearing anytime soon,” he spoke and laughed playfully, while lifting his gaze and looking at the female standing next to him. “It’s not that bad, actually...”

Despite her knowing why he was saying that he didn’t want her to find him while he was possessed, it did feel like someone was stabbing her with a dagger all the same. It was Caroline’s turn to swallow thickly this time, understanding his words, but still hurt by them. “You don’t want me to find you.” she had to look away, biting down on her bottom lip to prevent her watery eyes from shedding any tears. She didn’t want to do that because it wouldn’t help Stiles. She’d be doing nothing to take his mind off of it - though she already wasn’t doing that because here they were, talking about it. This was such a complicated and hurtful situation and it wasn’t like Caroline chose to let it get to her, but this was about Stiles’ life - how could it not get to her? “What do you want me to do then? What do you expect me to do? To just… abandon you?” she was already looking back at Stiles at this point and Caroline made the mistake of blinking a bit too hard, so a small tear dropped down her cheek, but she was quick to brush it off. Stiles didn’t need to see her cry, especially not while she felt weak. Well, he kind of already was, but the tears would only add to that and make it worse and the last thing that Caroline wanted from him was pity. “Tell me I’m not supposed to save you then. Tell me I’m supposed to just… leave you be. Like you don’t mean anything to me. Like I’m not in love with you. Is that what you want?”
“I don’t want you to find me, if I’m possessed again.” He swallowed and looked at Caroline, feeling his chest tighten a little bit at the conversation between the two of them. He reached out and grabbed Caroline’s hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. “If I hurt you, in any way Caroline, I’m not going to be able to ever... I’m not going to be able to continue, you have to understand that. Please.” He blinked, feeling his eyes fill up with tears as he knew he was hurting her. “I – I don’t want to hurt you. You have to believe me when I say that. I’m doing this because I lo–,” he said but stopped mid-sentence. Tell me I’m not supposed to save you then. Tell me I’m supposed to just leave you be. Like you don’t mean anything to me. Like I’m not in love with you. Is that what you want? “I want us to be happy. I want us both to be happy.”

Was she really that bad at consoling him or was Stiles just completely guilt ridden by the past as well as terrified of history repeating itself? She didn’t want him to feel this way. She didn’t want to see him this way. It was all cutting her up inside and Caroline hated that she was unable to take that feeling away. What kind of friend was she if she couldn’t even help him by erasing his fear? Because it was still there and she felt completely powerless as well as useless. She couldn’t say for sure that he wouldn’t get possessed again - anything could happen in this town. But she could say for sure that she’d do whatever she could to save Stiles and to make sure that the same mistakes weren’t made again. Everyone had learned from the time the nogitsune had showed up and if it appeared again, they now knew how to deal with it. Caroline just wanted to say the right thing, anything to make him feel better because Stiles didn’t deserve to feel miserable. But what could she say to make him feel better? “Because it’s over. That thing… it’s locked away. Bonnie made sure of it, remember? They’re nightmares, okay? It doesn’t make them real. You’re probably still dealing with that whole thing and I know you. You still feel bad about what happened to Allison and the others. But no one blames you for any of that. It wasn’t like you chose to become possessed. It chose you. You don’t choose darkness, it finds you. The nogitsune found you, the oni found Allison, Katherine found me and Elena. But were those things really our fault? And did we really give up after they happened?” Caroline reached for his hand next, gently lacing her fingers through his. “I know that bad things can happen in this town all the time, but we always keep fighting. And that’s what I’ll do for you too. It doesn’t matter what kind of thing possesses you or even if you can’t control it. I’ll always find you.”
Stiles knew that Caroline was trying to console him, and damn was he grateful for it, but he had become completely guilt ridden by the past and by the things that he had done in the past. He was absolutely petrified about history repeating himself. After-all, he had been weak enough to let it in once, what didn’t say that he would most likely be possessed again? His heart, body and mind had been weak then, and as much as he liked to believe he had become stronger, it was something that Stiles knew wasn’t true. He let a shaky breath out of his lips and he couldn’t help but feel his chest tighten harshly at the words coming from his lips and from hers. Taking yet another deep breath, he let his gaze drop to the floor for a second or two. Bonnie made sure of it, remember? “It can get out though. It got out once, it can – It can do it agin.” The thought alone made Stiles feel sick to his stomach. “They might just be nightmares and they might not be real but they feel real. It feels like I’m back in that state of mind, killing people and hurting people that I love. I don’t want that to ever happen again.” He swallowed and shook his head. Listening to the words coming from Caroline’s lips, Stiles understood where she had come from. I’ll always find you. He parted his lips but they soon closed. “I don’t know if I want you to find me, if I turn into that monster again,” he spoke, and his voice cracked. “I... If it happens, then you need to – you need to make sure it doesn’t go anywhere.”

“When you weren’t you?” she questioned quietly, though she already knew the answer to her own question. She knew that Stiles had it rough with that, even though years had passed. It was still something he lived with and it was clearly haunting him right now - she wanted to take that away more than anything. “But that’s exactly it. You weren’t you.” Caroline turned slightly so that she could have a better angle when reaching out and cupping his face in her hands. Her thumb gently swiped across Stiles’ warm skin, never once breaking the gaze between them. “Look at me. I’m not gonna let you go back. And I’m not gonna let you lose control. It happened once, it’s not happening again. I won’t let it. Whatever tries to suck you back into its web, it has to go through me first and there is no going through me.” she would do whatever it took to protect him from whatever would try to swallow him whole. Leaning in closer, the blonde gently pressed her lips against his, hoping to calm his senses. “You’re safe, Stiles. You’re safe with me.”
Blinking furiously, Stiles looked at Caroline and he felt his heart beat harder and faster against his chest than ever before as he listened to the words coming from the blonde female’s mouth. “I wasn’t me, but at the same time, I was. I know that doesn’t make any sense, I just...” Stiles took a deep breath and continued to look at her. When Caroline reached out and cupped his face, he swallowed and kept his dark-brown eyes locked with her blue ones as she let her thumb swipe across his skin, never once breaking the gaze between the two of them. “How can you say that though? How can you know that I’m not going to slip back into my old habits?” he questioned and he felt his chest tighten a little bit more. He let his tongue quickly move across his lips and he couldn’t help but feel a little nervous and anxious. “You don’t know what can happen though, Caroline. I might lose control and if I do – you know what can happen. You know that I might not be able to control what happens next.”

If Caroline had been the one with the nightmares, she knew that Stiles would have been at her door within ten minutes too. Besides, she wanted to be there to try and help him because the last time he’d had nightmares, his father had brought him to Eichen and the last thing that she wanted was for Stiles to go back there. She needed him, for so many things. There was no way she’d be able to deal with losing him to that asylum again and if she could help prevent it, she would. She couldn’t help but enjoy the way his fingers brushed against her skin through the fabric of her shirt, prompting a soft hum to bounce through the room. Though when she shifted her attention back towards her best friend, she swore that there was a moment where Caroline thought she spotted some anxiety coming from Stiles. The way he’d just swallowed kind of worried her, unless she’d seen it wrong, but she still wanted to make sure. “What’s wrong?”
Stiles swallowed and continued to look at the blonde, the male felt goosebumps appear all over his neck and back. “Nothing. I just...” He stopped talking mid-sentence, thinking about what to say next. “I’ve been having nightmares about what happened when, you know, when I was not...” Stiles took a deep breath and swallowed, the lump in his throat only seemed to grow and he shook his head as he looked at his hands as they continued to rest on her arm. “What if I go back? What if I do it again? What if I can’t control it any longer?”

“Yeah, you do.” Caroline admitted with a small nod of her head. “I didn’t even know that this was a date, but then you said that it was and there you went, surprising me again.” she liked surprises though and she also liked that Stiles had that side to him. He could do things that she didn’t expect and that made things more exciting and fun. Hearing him say that he felt better because she’d come over made the blonde feel better in response. If her heart could beat, it would be fluttering at that point. She hadn’t even done much of anything and already he didn’t feel as bad as he had prior to her arrival. All that mattered to Caroline was that he’d have a proper distraction and if she could provide that, then she’d do it. “You’re not alone, Stiles. And I don’t know what we are or what you want us to be, but… I’ll always come running when you need me. No matter what.”
Stiles laughed and he shook his head gently at the words coming from the blonde’s mouth about how he had surprised her. He shrugged his shoulders softly, his dark-brown eyes locked themselves with hers. The smile on his lips didn’t once falter and the young male continued to keep his eyes on Caroline. “Yeah. I know that. I know that I’m not alone, and that it’s all because of you. I believe you when you say that you wouldn’t leave me alone. That you would be there,” he spoke and swallowed the lump in his throat nervously as he continued to slowly stroke his fingertips against the top of her shoulder blade. “And I’m always going to be there for you. I’ll come running to you whenever you need me.”

Whenever Stiles said things like this, Caroline honestly felt like she was dreaming because it was still sort of surreal for her to hear. “No, I want it to be.” she nodded, an affectionate smile finding its way to her lips as she turned herself slightly so her arm could drape over Stiles’ waist. “I just didn’t know that it was one. I’ve been trying to get a date with you for ages.” Caroline admitted softly. She thought that Stiles had asked her to come over to help with his nightmares, but did he really expect her to say no if he wanted this to be a date? “You surprise me every day.” the blonde shifted her head a little so that it was tucked beneath his chin, the sound of his beating heart actually kind of calming her down. There was no way that she could ever hurt Stiles, so the thought of biting him was one that terrified her. She couldn’t ever go there because if she hurt him, she’d rather get staked than still be a vampire. Using the remote, Caroline turned on the tv before leaning her head back so she could look up at Stiles. “I’m not. I’m setting everything up in the afternoon, but then I’m going home to change, so you can come pick me up if you want. Around seven?”
Stiles looked over at Caroline and smiled at the words coming from the blonde’s mouth. He took a deep breath and glanced down at his hands for a split second. Stiles laughed, “I surprise you?” he asked and tilted his head a little to the side. Closing his eyes, the young male felt the side of her head press against his chest and he felt his heart pound against his ribcage. Being with Caroline like this, it made him feel happier than he had in a long time. He watched her as she used the remote, turning the TV on before leaning her head back so that she could look up at him. His gaze dropped to Caroline and a tiny smile appeared on his lips. “Yeah. I – I mean, I can definitely do that,” Stiles spoke and nodded, keeping his dark-brown eyes locked with hers. “I’ll be there. Around seven.” Stiles pressed his hands against the female’s shoulder, squeezing it softly. “I... Thank you, for you know, coming over. I feel... I feel better now.”
