That's it about me. I'm 23 The theme of this blog is whatever media I am into at the moment, or whatever is going on with my mutuals and the people I follow. I'll reblog any cute art or animal that pops up in my feed. It's a bit messy but I've come to like it here

I always try to help as kindly as I can when someone asks for context about a novel or TV show that is set in another time or culture, but sometimes I also just want to scream "Context clues!", especially when they get angry at a character, because even things written in a different time or place for that time or place will usually have enough in it for you to figure it out.
For example, people will often say, "Why doesn't Edward just break his engagement to Lucy! He's so weak!" about Sense & Sensibility and then be angry at him about it. Yes, there are historical conventions that explain the reasoning which might not be understood, but it's also right in the novel. Multiple alignment good characters, including Elinor herself, praise Edward for not abandoning Lucy and for keeping his word. Even if one doesn't fully grasp the reason, it's clear that he is doing The Right ThingTM.
It seems like the way some people approach anything is to apply only their own values and norms to it. When I pick up a book written 250 years ago or watch a TV show that wasn't made in my country, I'm starting with the assumption that morals and norms may be a bit different than my own. If a character does something I find odd, I pay attention to other character's reactions to see if it's normal or not. If everyone makes a big deal out of something I don't get, I register it in my brain as A Thing that I should probably look up later. If a value seems really important, I think to myself, "They probably put this moral rule above others" (we share most moral rules across cultures, we just order them differently). This doesn't seem like rocket science to me. Do people not do this?

Losing my mind at this poor girl in Argentina who found a kitten on the side of the road and adopted it only to find out it was a freaking jaguarundi. Look at that fucking thing. That's a whole ass kiddy cat

TV!Bot: All humans are assholes. Disgusting, naive organic creatures that are only good at getting themselves killed. I hate being anywhere near them and couldn’t care less about their wants or needs. I should just let them all die. Or kill them myself because I’m an evil Murderbot. Yeah… yeah I think I will kill them. I will! …eventually.
Book!Bot: My humans are the fucking best. No human clients are as awesome as my human clients. Did you know they drive the hopper safely? Don’t get into petty squabbles? Use the feeds so we can chat without them looking at me? Yeah, exactly. Phenomenal. If anything happened to my humans I’d kill everything on this planet and then myself. I want to kill things just for THINKING about hurting my humans… unless it’s Gurathin. It’s fine if he dies.

While I will agree with anyone that says boomer memes are mostly awful... some very notable exceptions to this rule DO exist:

Okay, I don't know how many times I've seen the Leverage pilot episode but I just realized that Nate was in Illinois SPECIFICALLY to see Sophie's play because he doesn't live there. He was in the bar waiting to head to the airport, he's already divorced and jobless, so why was he there? He knew that Sophie was there. He saw her play the night before he was approached by Dubenich.
How did it take me this long to realize that? 🤦♀️

What I call irony is that Maomao at first thought that being lowkey and appearing inattentive would grant her a peaceful life. Little did she know that this was the reason why she was noticed by Jinshi.

He was used to being the center of attention, and wherever he went, people would turn their heads toward him. However, there was only one person who was completely lost in her monologue, unaware of his presence, and it was that freckled girl.

He couldn't resist not knowing what this was all about afterward. It turned out that she literally doesn't buy his "sparkly" persona, nor she tolerate engaging with his "sweet-as-honey" fake behavior that most people swoon over. On the contrary, she responds slightly better to him when he literally drops the act and behaves like his real childish self.

I don't think it's only a matter of him liking that she's not impressed by him, I think he feels safe enough that she doesn't have any ulterior motives toward him which as we have seen, many have tried to whether by lacing food with aphrodisiacs or inserting love charms in his closet.

She's not after his beauty, status, or money. If she ever returned his affection, it would be for his true essence. He doesn't have to "sell out" his charm to get what he wants, nor does he need to act older than his actual age with her. Isn't that.... freedom? No wonder he's in love with her. He just needs to work extra hard to get her affection.
