Note
so what do u think about plays
i like how in a theatre time and space are necessarily metaphorical. i don’t like how plays always have to begin with someone walking onstage and talking. too many directors try to work around this by having someone walk onstage and brood in silence for a moment before talking. this is worse.

Chess 2025 Broadway Revival Casting Breakdown
Preserved for posterity and speculation. Information is from the casting call posted on Broadwayworld on 05/22/2025. Source in replies!
FLORENCE – (CAST) (Female, 30s) Brilliant, intelligent, tough, pragmatic, and emotionally mature, Florence navigates the competing affections of Freddie and Anatoly while haunted by the trauma of her father’s disappearance during wartime. Mezzo-Soprano with a strong belt. FREDDIE – (CAST) (Male, 30s) An American chess champion. Temperamental, arrogant, and emotionally volatile. Mentally unstable with a big ego. His internal struggles and paranoia often sabotage his relationships and career. Rock tenor. ANATOLY – (CAST) (Male, 30s) A Soviet chess master. Calm, introspective, brilliant, and principled, Anatoly is a man torn between personal freedom and political loyalty. Bari-tenor or High Baritone. MOLOKOV – (CAST) (Male, 40s-50s) A Soviet political operative. Calculating and brash. Charming but manipulative, Molokov plays the political game behind the scenes, maneuvering Anatoly for Soviet interests while masking threats with civility. Strong comedic timing. Baritone. WALTER – (CAST) (Male, 40s-50s) An American government CIA agent. Tough, a bad ass. Presented as Freddie’s manager, Walter is covertly involved in political conspiracies, aligning closely with Florence’s storyline and US interests. Strong comedic timing. Baritone. THE ARBITER – (CAST) (Male, 30s-40s) A strict and neutral referee of the chess tournament. Cool, authoritarian, and unflinching. He is a sharp and sardonic observer of everything going on. Strong comedic timing. Tenor. SVETLANA – (Female, 30s) Anatoly’s estranged wife. Caught in the personal and political consequences of Anatoly’s choices, she will do anything to maintain her family and her status. Mezzo-Soprano with a strong high belt. FLORENCE STANDBY – (Female, 30s) Brilliant, intelligent, tough, pragmatic, and emotionally mature, Florence navigates the competing affections of Freddie and Anatoly while haunted by the trauma of her father’s disappearance during wartime. Mezzo-Soprano with a strong belt.
#emotionally mature florence is an immediate red flag for any chess production and i stand by that#chess the musical

been working backstage as wig and hair crew for the lightning thief musical and after hearing it for 2 weeks straight it has grown on me i am endeared to it and i find it camp. however i still cannot get over the opening lines being some of the worst lyrics ive heard from a musical ever. which for the blissfully oblivious are "the gods are real. like the greek gods. the ones you heard about but werent paying attention to. well they dont pay attention to you either. especially if youre their kid." hate to say it but its giving cellular fusion from the high school musical stage adaptation.
