It’s got to be close to dawn. When you crack an eye to peer out the window the sky is still dark, with a thin line of orange at the lowest point you can see through the rows and rows of buildings. Through the groggy haze of slumber, you piece together your surroundings. The bed beside you, while still warm from his body, is void of your boyfriend. Your searching eyes find him leaning back in his desk chair, the bare skin of his chest glowing in the warm light that flickers from a solitary green candle. Soft piano spills from the phone in his hand. The calming music would most certainly have lulled you back to sleep had it not been for the shock of seeing Taehyung awake at 4 a.m., by choice. You watch him, curiosity piqued. He doesn’t seem upset, just awake, and you wonder what the reason could be. Taehyung drops his phone into his lap and throws his foot up on the desk, satin pajama pants sliding up his calf. The deep sigh he lets out when he drops his head back has you feeling his absence something awful.

There are rare types of soulmate marks though.

You don’t have your mark yet, and you wonder if you’ll have flowers or maybe moon phases on your legs like some other people do.

You’re so excited- but then you get yours…

You wake up one morning and raise your hands to brush the sleep out of your eyes to find your hands black and pattered with crisscrossing geometric lines and harsh diamonds of black over your knuckles.

 Every inch of your hands from your wrists onwards is patterned in harsh black lines almost like a pair of gloves.

And it never changes. Never gets an ounce of color. Never shifts to a different pattern.

And so you go to forums to try and figure out what your soulmate mark means because you’ve never met anyone with a mark like yours. 

And that’s when you learn that there is a very rare type of soulmark, usually only one color, where one half gets a mark on their body in the location that the others hates the most on their own body.
