some lgbtq people get so so so so so so so pressed about identity terminology as if what somebody does or doesn't call themself determines whether you will be forced to consider them a dating prospect or not. behaviour near indistinguishable from cis people getting freaked out that if they recognise people's chosen pronouns then their orientation will technically encompass trans people and somehow this will materially impact their lives.
like, loading screen tip: if you don't think someone's self description is one of the Real True Identities constructed by the god of gender and orientation at the dawn of time, you don't have to date or fuck them or even join them for board game night. in fact I would hazard that they wish you wouldn't. sometimes you're just on some different shit and it's better if you leave each other the fuck alone.

Hi friends, I’m popping on here to inform you that i have watched all 8 episodes of the new CW show Sherlock & Daughter, and to let you know that it is actually good! Guys, I was skeptical going in because of *gestures with muppet arms in the direction of the CW* and also because the premise is not necessarily my first choice during these public domain times, but….
David Thewlis is wonderful as Sherlock. He’s gangly and awkward, but still exudes the Victorian gentleman vibe. There’s angst, there’s tons of drawing room conversations, Watson and Mrs. Hudson have been kidnapped, a strange girl shows up at Baker Street claiming to be Sherlock’s daughter, since she has information and skills that are pertinent to the case, Holmes takes her in almost as one of his irregulars at first and their camaraderie builds from there. With Watson’s reappearance there are hugs and face touching and “my dear boy,” which are basically my criteria for a good adaptation lol. The actor that plays Watson, Seán Duggan, has those type of eyes that well up with emotion and make the few scenes he’s in very touching. Moriarty is there too, and the actor that plays him, Dougray Scott, is deliciously flamboyant and over the top.
Blu Hunt plays Amelia, the titular daughter and she is great. She’s on a mission to find out who murdered her mother. She brings a lot of skills to the table and is also willing to learn from Holmes. The way Hunt plays her character is reminiscent of Hailee Steinfeld in True Grit, just very capable and no nonsense.
The show doesn’t solely rely on the kitschiness of the premise, it also backs that up with tons of conversation scenes between Amelia and Holmes that develops their characters and the relationship. And the way the last episode ended, I’m feeling a Holmes-and-Watson-two-dads setup that I sincerely hope we get to see. I really hope they get to make a season two, I was genuinely charmed. (Episodes are also available on HBO Max at least in the US).
