Okay I keep seeing people saying that they feel like this album is Josh saying goodbye and all that but I have a different take. I think the album is a book in a sense that Josh has documented in the last four years in musical form. The first track, Astoria, is Josh sort of summarizing the last four years. He asks “do I survive you, Astoria?” which makes me think that Astoria represents the last four years for him. The last track, End of an Era, is not him saying goodbye to Marianas Trench, it’s him saying goodbye to the last four years. In the last line, he’s says “Astoria must end” as in he’s now come to terms with all the horrible stuff that’s happened in his life and he’s now done with that part of his life. I don’t think Marianas Trench is done with music, they’re just beginning a new era.
