1hr time challenge. Ready, set, go! Drawing from memory vs. Reference I learned the other day that Norman Rockwell was almost OCD level with his planning for the next painting. Traveling all over the country to find just the right diner, car, scene. The amount of time that he put into it was almost insane. So, 15 minutes, can you take just 15 minutes each day to sketch something? If you are, is it time to increase to 20, 30, 40 minutes? To grow, you must push yourself, exercise even, to make each stroke of the brush or pencil feel like it is an extension of yourself. Stuck? Don't know what to draw? Try this... I call it the noise principal. It is known that our brain gets bored after 10-15 minutes if it has little to no information. So, take some paper and a pen or pencil, start by making random marks, squiggles, scratches, whatever. No plan, no point, just make noise. The brain will get bored, you will get bored, just keep doing it. What will happen is, your brain will begin to entertain itself by filling in random things. This is why you patterns on a textured wall or shapes in a cloud. As you keep going you will see something that will peak your interest and bang, you now have the inspiration for something to draw. She had broken her foot the day before a 10 mile hike. Complete it and you graduate, don't and you have to do another 4 weeks. She hiked that 10 miles. Graduated in a cast. She never gave up.
