Can we all just stop for a moment to freak out about this?? The woman in the last great america dynasty, Rebekah Harkness, was also known as Betty - who was married to Bill. This could mean that Taylor sees herself as similar to Betty (since she definetly sees herself as similar Rebekah), and that that Joe is William Bowery, since William was Betty’s husband. Betty is also one of the songs that William Bowery helped write. Also, if there was some truth to the Betty-James-drama and William Bowery is Joe, then it would make sense for him to help write the song from ’his’ perspective.
remember when we heard “I’m sorry the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now, why? oh because she is dead” and we all freaked the fuck out because it was so dark and we were afraid Taylor would never be the same with us, and that her softness was replaced by hardness because of all the shit she went through? well, it really hits different after watching miss Americana, i now see it as one of the most freeing lyrics she has because she wasn’t getting rid of her good self but the Taylor that was constantly looking for approval. ugh once again, reputation proving why she is that bitch.
fuck... taylor’s gonna start re-recording her music in 2020, aka the turn of the decade... it’s literally going to be the end of a decade... but the start of an age
every time i hear ”just wanna lift you up and not let you go” in afterglow i picture this 😂😂 im so sure that line was written to her cats in secret (although pocturing her lifting Joe is definitely really funny too )
My favourite lyric from lover is the second verse of Cornelia, like: they were card sharks, playing games, she thought he was playing her, so she got in her getaway car because you gotta leave before you get left. But before she got into the tunnel (where there’s no reception) he called her and showed his hand (in the card game of love) and she turned around and they sat on the roof and all at once he was her king of hearts, body and soul ♥️♦️♣️♠️ @taylorswift
