I wonder when exactly it was that Star Trek stopped being perceived as light, fluffy, not-really-legitimate sci fi that ~housewives~ liked and started being seen as serious nerd business that girls had to keep their gross cooties off.

H/T to @geekysteven

"Tribbles, my wife loves em, can’t get enough of them, but one thing I noticed is that they just can’t stand Klingons. Those tribbles didn’t take a liking to you at all, did they?"

Picard: builds a ship in a bottle
Sisko: builds an ancient Bajoran star ship from scratch just to show its space worthy AND proves the Bajorans did first contact before the Cardassians.

Visitor to deep space 9 to keiko: so… you seeing anyone?
Keiko: why yes! This is my husband Miles, Miles’ boyfriend Julian, Julian’s husband Garak, me and Miles’ girlfriend Kira, Kira’s boyfriend Odo, Odo’s enemy-with-benefits Quark, Kira’s datemate Jadzia, and Jadzia’s husband Worf.
Visitor pointing at Sisko: and who’s that?
All in unison: that’s our dad

Let's hear it for these two:

Two women intended by a couple of creepy producers to be nothing more than a target for the male gaze, and who instead managed to work through all the skimpy outfits and situations meant to get them naked to give nuanced and engaging performances that made their characters a lasting part of Star Trek. I do hope that as Jeri Ryan's Seven has had her renaissance, Jolene Blalock's T'Pol might get a similar return.
Even if not, thank you Jeri and Jolene for bringing your acting talents to bear against Berman sexism.

i think what gets lost in the "reposting gifs is bad" message is that the people reposting don't realize that someone made these gifs. a real human person who is a user on this godforsaken site, made it. it didn't come from "tumblr" it didn't just appear here out of nowhere. it's weird, i get it, especially if you're new here. it doesn't look like a creative work, it's just a few dozen frames of a tv show or whatever. making gifs and posting them to tumblr is different things to everyone who does it, but it's an art. it's fanwork. no qualifiers, it just is. and i think with about 10 more seconds of thought everyone could come to that conclusion too. the art is in the choice to make it. so don't steal it, please.

Real talk, I've been in a bit of a weird mental space lately, which has nothing to do with this endeavor. This has made me unwilling to interact (even indirectly) with someone who has consistently refused to understand the reasoning behind this blog, so I haven't even looked at their page in weeks
Reporting reposts isn't about citing sources. Since posts largely get shared without the OP's consent (which would be the most ideal scenario), this blog lets OP know it has happened before they run into something they made/wrote elsewhere in the wild. Writing the user name or including it in a screenshot does not let the OP know it has been shared. Why cite a source but not inform OP? Also why cite a source if not to inform OP? Some people do not want their words/art/work on Facebook/other platforms, which is an issue as consent is taken out of the equation with current reposting practices. On the other hand, some people delight in learning their post has escaped Tumblr containment, and they wouldn't have known otherwise. I don't see a compelling reason not to inform people
I was never trying to get into a pissing match, but upon learning about this blog, the main reposter doubled then tripled down on the same behavior. Their page is "targeted" because many trek themed reposts that show up on the larger internet originated from their page, which we know because of watermarks
All that said, reports are returning shortly. Tumblr's search feature seems to have gotten more unreliable for me with app updates, but I will do my best. Thank you for your patience and support
#I also hate when screenshots of tumblr posts find their way back to tumblr when the post ya'know originated here#captain to all hands
