The hypothetical Wave Arc role reversal would have been so good!!! What if the violence cycles show was actually about cycles and we saw our protagonists succumb to it real time!!! And for it to be acknowledged by the narrative!!!!! What if Naruto was catered to me specifically ^_^

Like. People of Wave are poor, they can't hire reputable ninja village shinobi so they get one at a discount. Zabuza and Haku get to watch over a bridge being built. Gato is rich rich. He can afford village shinobi pay rates. He gets Team 7 to come and get rid of illegal business aka a bridge being built without proper papers or something. The kiddos all have their canon attitudes about having their first big kid missions outside the village. Then they get to Wave and see... Wait... Shit sucks here :/ why is everything so bad here. And they investigate a bit, into the overall situation and also the bridge and stuff. And they probably get into a skirmish w Zabuza to paralel the first fight in canon. Both Zabuza and Kakashi get roughed up, expect this time Team 7 is hired by a rich™ dude so he can like, spare them some accomodations (at a price. What they get from him gets taken out of his payment the village or something, he seems like the guy to do that). And now the kiddos can see the true contrasts between how their employer lives, and how the rest of Wave lives! The complicated feelings start. Are they... The baddies? Anyway. Personally I'd like to see them complete their mission. They defeat Haku and Zabuza, destroy the village. They love with mixed feelings, guilt and uncertainty. They leave Wave being cursed at by the common citizens, and praised by Gato and whatever other rich dudes there might be. They succeed in their first outside village mission, survive two missing nin. They also ruin the loves of a whole community, who just started to gain back hope only to get it crushed by some Leaf ninja kids.

The two concepts of "we want the protagonist to be in the right" and also "we want our protagonist to become the best at the thing in this universe he is doing", FIGHT! Do we leave the status quo as is, allowing the protagonist to become the best at the thing™ of this world, OR, do we actually change things and dismantle the cycle of violence and try and create a better world. Personally I like the cycles show being about cycles, so I'd go with the first! Naruto can be Hokage. Go on baby, you're not doing anything amazing bc outside the god powers you're becoming a perfectly average military dictator

Maybe I do want to see our protagonists get crushed by the world they live in, start optimistic and full of want for change and stuff, only to slowly confront to the reality and accept that shit sucks and move on! And not fix anything! Maybe I want to see Naruto become the thing he never actually swore to destroy because for all his big talks about change becoming the ultimate doctor of his village has been his goal from day one (even if just as a cover for want for acknowledgement. From the village, aka, the center of the whole cycle of violence things!!!). Maybe I do think it's interesting to see the atrocities commited in canon be swept under the rug and brushed over in favour of perching Will of Fire. I like my shinobi as liars and hypocrites, thank you very much

LITERALLY EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS ASK IS PERFECT I NEED TO FRAME IT AND HANG IT ON MY WALL..... i love later naruto for being. well. cycles show. now objectively it sucks pretty bad but i'm a sucker for tragedy so i'm enthralled. could you IMAGINE if the rot started creeping in early though?/?? this is so good it's exactly how i'd want it to play out. the irony of zabuza going "i had to KILL MY CLASSMATES to become a genin" coming right before the chunin exams is already wild could you imagine if it was even worse??? if early naruto hammered in that what was happening was wrong and also that 90% of the people here couldn't imagine anything else ??? god it would be such a good show. i heart the cycle of violence

Sometimes! It honestly depends on how I feel. My two favourite characters at the moment are guys though, so that’s probably why I don’t have as much art of female characters!

Average post-war team 7 (+ obito) meetup:

Naruto & sasuke are fighting. Sakura tried to stop them by temporarily paralyzing them both from the neck down, but now they're just angrily wriggling at each other and doing their level best to tear the other's throat out with their teeth. Sai is taking notes for future reference. Kakashi is taking bets on who will win. Yamato is sitting off to the side and pretending the others don't exist. Obito is reminiscing about his genin days.
