That feeling of rejection was far too all encompassing to put into words. It pooled in her cheeks, pulsed down her back. It was hot, it was too hot. It made her want to forget every piece of her sorry existence. It took a few minutes to settle, and then it felt like shame. Disappointment, but only in herself. It washed down her cheeks, replacing the heat with ice. And then there was only hollow.
Only that empty familiar feeling that felt like home. Not a good home. But the only one she knew.
There it was, right on time. The tears decided to slip in about twenty minutes after the initial shock. Funny how long it took for them to process. She was pretty good at holding them in, in front of people. It didn't stop her from getting snappy.
Her chest felt tight. Like those moments before a heart palpitation. It had been about thirty minutes. This was ingraining itself in her. Yes, that's what was happening. It was seeping through her skin into her bones and her organs. It would poison her blood, that insecurity that fed off of each rejection. It was running through her veins now. It sang with right. Because it was right. It had always been right. Each rejection felt like new pain for a moment, but it was really just affirmation of the truth she already knew.
In her blood, the insecurity glowed. It thrived. It fed.
It knew it could soak up these moments and feed them back later, when the confidence tried to rear its head. That force in her veins had so many of these. So many rejections it could cycle through to remind her of the truth. Keep her grounded. Confidence couldn't do that. Joy couldn't do that. Love definitely couldn't do that. All of those were not grounding. They were liabilities.
But the insecurity was grounding. It was home, it was safe. If they know the truth, then they cannot be hurt. If they accept the truth, then they cannot get hope. Because hope is the biggest liability of all.

Hey friends! I've been working on a novel, and I'm so excited to share updates! I have a lot of character bios but they're currently paired with AI artwork because I can't afford any official illustrations yet, so I'm waiting to share.

Ā ā€œI love you. I’ve loved you from the moment we raced each other in that park. I have loved you at every dance, on every walk, every time we’ve been together and every time we’ve been apart. You do not have to accept it or embrace it or even allow it. Knowing you, you probably will not. But you must know it, in your heart. You must feel it because I do. I love you.ā€
ā€œā€¦I love you too.ā€

Historically Accurate POTC Designs, Maybe??
Tried drawing some historically accurate Pirates of the Caribbean designs, with my best effort(s?) to keep the spirit of the original costumes!
Research rabbit holes below:
Tumblr media
I set the clothes in the late 1720's, 1728-1731. At this time, coats were very full—almost skirt-like—with big cuffs, and the waistcoats sometimes had long sleeves!
For Will, I decided to give him just a waistcoat since most of his costumes in the movie don't have an overcoat, and it makes more sense for a blacksmith, I think! I also decided not to give him a wig since I don't think he would be wealthy enough or be able to work with one.
For (Captain) Jack, I really just wanted to give him shoes with red heels. They were popular in the 17th century, but carried over to the early 18th!Ā  Wearing them meant you were in favor with King Louis XIV (who ruled at the time) and were rich enough to wear the color red. Since Jack is obviously none of those things I thought it’d be funny—he probably stole them. The T on his hand was supposed to be the equivalent to the P brand Jack has in the movies. Branding was a thing, just not for pirates! A T burned on the hand was for ā€œthief.ā€ Usually brands were like a warning, and if the offender committed another crime then they would be hanged—pirates, however, didn’t get a second chance.
For Elizabeth, her dress was hard to research. Technically the popular gown at the time was a Robe Volante, but I don’t like the way it looks so I found a different one haha :D What I could find from a few paintings was what apparently is called a ā€œround gownā€ and was often worn with some sort of belt or ribbon thing at the middle. Not sure what that part is called, maybe a girdle? Technically, a mantua would be closer to the purple-red gown Barbossa gives Elizabeth, since it has fabric bunched up in the back, but I thought a different style could work too.
Elizabeth’s pirate outfit is just based off of what I could find for general 18th-century sailor’s clothes, which were difficult to find for the 1720s in particular, but didn’t seem to change much throughout the decade. However fashionable, boots (sadly) weren’t actually worn by pirates, and most sailors would go barefoot or just wear the current fashionable shoe at the time! She would also probably be wearing a knit hat, but I thought the tricorne was too iconic to take away.
And, lastly, for Norrington! He’s wearing a Ramillies wig (named after the battle of Ramillies in 1706) which was the style for people in the military, or really for anyone who couldn’t wear a full periwig (the really big curly wigs.) And for his clothes, since British Navy Uniforms weren’t introduced until 1748, I just put him in blue and gold.
And that’s it! I’m only a very amateur fashion history enthusiast and could be wrong about a lot, so if anyone knows anything about 1720-30s fashion or anything like that feel free to let me know about any mistakes or other interesting historical facts!

One of best things about pirates of the caribbean is elizabeth's backstory.
Like, usually the heroine escapes her life because of abusive or violent patents (ex. the evil stepmother), an unwanted marriage or some sort of oppression she was suffering. But for elizabeth it's not this case. She chooses to be a pirate because that's what she wanted. It's not a lesser evil for her, the least bad one out of the only two options. She lusts for freedom and she takes it.
Apart from her mother's death, she has a great life before the movies. Her father is supporting and, considering their century, very open-minded. He let her do whatever she wishes to. And when she makes it clear that she doesn't want to marry james, the governor doesn't hold her back or force on her a fate she doesn't like. He let her choose her life by herself, which is surprising even for today standards.
She ends up having a bitter ending, but she had it her own way. Everything that lead it to her was her own decisions, no one else's. And being a disney's female character, it's quite unexpected for her to so independent of her past in order to build her own future.
