wolfish pale blue eyes flick to the one speaking, and for a long moment, the assassin doesn't respond. but he does reach up to idly brush gloved fingertips over the brim of his hat before over chain accessory that his brother had added. perhaps he shouldn't have taken it back. it did chuuya more good than it did him — especially now after losing guivre.

but at the same time, it held sentimental value. the kind that he couldn't quite let go of.

when he does speak, his voice is gentle but in the way that thunder on the horizon might be. "thank you; it was a gift." the most precious gift that he'd ever received. "who might this person be that you know? if you don't mind me asking."

there's a small smile, but it doesn't quite meet his gaze. if this boy knew who he was by some odd chance, that'd put verlaine in a predicament; and one that he didn't care to be in at that.

verlaine'd deal with him swiftly and give him a merciful death at the very least. it would be easy to break his bones under the pressure of his gravity just as he had done all those times before and then he'd look like just another drunk that passed out in an alleyway.

there wouldn't be any sign of visible injury unless he willed it be — and to be honest, he didn't care to cause much of a scene unless he absolutely had to.

Pelts him with a water balloon.

one of his sworn enemies that he's had for as long as verlaine can remember. he's able to stop the balloon itself but it pops and drenches him. a deep breath is taken, eyes clamped closed and visibly tense for a beat before he composes himself and flicks water that drips from his hair out of his face. he's calm— almost too calm — but when his eyes open, they're sharp and full of murderous intent.

there's only one thing for the person that threw it at him to do. run and pray that he can't catch you.

Verlaine, would you rather get a paper cut every time you turn a page or bite your tongue every time you eat?

there's not a beat of hesitation as he answers, not even glancing up from what he's currently occupied with, "biting my tongue every time i eat." verlaine would practically bleed out through his fingertips alone if he got a papercut every time he turned a page. reading is all he does in his free time. and he usually eats twice on a good day, so it's the obvious choice out of the two.

so... i had three teeth extracted today, and i am very sore. so while i'm recovering physically, and financially ;w; i might see what i can get done here because i've been struggling with one up to over four years so that should improve my health by some. i'm feeling somewhat better tonight but we'll see how that pans out over the course of a few days.

" It's okay to hate me, Mr. Verlaine. I understand that it's common and reasonable to hate the one who caused you issues like back then, even if it were for the greater good. " Does anyone want to hear an android joke?
