Hannibal AU where the pool scene leaves Hannibal with severed tendons/nerves and never fully recovers mobility in his hands, making him unable to draw, hunt, cook, et cetera.

I FORGOT TO ANSWER THIS EARLIER but oh my god does this invoke a mental image.

the first while is devastating. he doesn't know in which way yet. of course, there's the devastating tragedy, some nobody with their eyes on Will has essentially disabled him. on the other hand, he's haunted by the devastating beauty of Will doling out his reckoning after all, that righteous fury bubbling so ferociously that he didn't care what would happen to Hannibal, just that it would happen.

when Will gets out of prison to point his gun at Hannibal, he sees Hannibal's hand shaking on his refrigerator door, and only then does he lower it and leave.

Will is the one to later suggest "slicing the ginger", the unmistakable look of worry in his eyes when he sees Hannibal attempting to steady his knife.

Hannibal couldn't keep Will's cut surgical, so he kept it shallow. he never intended for Abigail to die, but his hands are no longer capable of steadying enough to avoid her artery.

years down the line Will can't fathom joy if those scars are within his sight, but that doesn't prevent him from massaging Hannibal's aching wrists to watch the man relax.

Despite everything about himself, Hannibal knows that his professor has taken him over, mind, body, and soul, without ever even trying to. Hannibal is unable to keep himself from acting on his biggest impulse, creating an instance in which they're finally alone together. It does not go the way he'd planned.

the development of hannibal lecter from s1 to s2 is so funny. in s1 you think this guy is such a mastermind fully in control of everything around him while still keeping up his carefully crafted cool suave persona and then in s2 he is just the absolute BIGGEST fucking loser you've ever seen in your life going to crime scenes and saying ominous shit trying to be like his crush pretending he has friends.

i started my Hannibal rewatch and i just have to say

yes, Abigail's story is incredibly tragic. but constantly regurgitating the same "No one ever saw her for who she was!" take that you saw someone else say does not change the fact that Abigail very consciously did not let anyone see her for who she was.

Abigail is VERY capable of manipulation, and she used that as many times as she felt was necessary. there was not a single character she was fully comfortable around, not even Hannibal, and yet she had each and every one of them fooled in some way at some point. every single character in the show had a completely different agenda with her and she fed into whichever agendas she felt benefitted her the most, and it just happened to be that Hannibal's agenda carried the most benefit, up until the precise moment that it didn't.

Abigail's story is sad, but insisting that no one ever saw her for who she was as though that wasn't her goal tells me it's worth taking another look at what she does with the people around her.
