You will see a person with Manic Episode too happy. He will go through spending spree because it feels good. He will feel hot and put off his clothes because it feels good. If having a chance, it will go through too much sex because it feels good. He will scream, run, jump, dance, and call for everybody’s attention because it feels good. He thinks that he can do all things that he wants. And it will not end there, he will have episodes where he will have hallucinations. He will hear stuff that is not existing. See stuff that is not there. He will get irritated, and to make things worse, he will put up a fight if he doesn't like the episode.

Being with someone with Manic Episode requires a lot of compassion for him. If he tends to spend too much, remind him that to slooooowww down. If he is too energetic, tell him to rest and take his medicine. A person with Manic Episodes is not a bad person. The just do this because they do not receive the right rest they deserve. Maybe a colder room at night will help them. And most importantly, they deserve a helping hand and caring loved ones. Because the heart with a worsening mania is like a dessert with oasis just drying up.

I was moved by this movie. Because this movie, talked to me directly. It asked me to rekindle if there was ever a person, even only a single one who believed in me. Who to ever told me like,

Mimi to young Joy: You are going to grow up and be a strong, smart young woman… go to school, meet a fine young man, have beautiful children of your own… and you’re gonna build wonderful things that you do in your room. Okay?

Yes. It happened to me. We had a yaya before that saw me bringing home a trophy. I got that that when I won first place in Haiku Writing Contest when I was in Grade 5. She said to me, I will be the one who will bring home glory to our family. Are you curious what happened to that prophecy? Well I believe that I don’t have to tell you, since this is about Joy and not about Venus. No, I am just joking. Sharing my though is also sharing about me, right? 😉

Joy is a mother of two working as a Ticketing Officer in an Airlines Company. I can’t really tell if she is a single mother because her ex-husband is living in their home’s basement and still taking care of their kids too. Things are not that bad but when she talked to her best friend, she shared the same frustration her best friend feels. Seems like every decision she made before and circumstances happened to her brought her to this miserable life. Since her job is not fulfilling and ought her to work at nightshift she resigned in her job and took a courage to start a corporation selling a self-wringing mop she invented. At first, no one believed in her invention and the plan to sell it to several stores did not work. Thank God her ever supportive ex-husband introduced her to Neil of a Retailing Company and eventually helped her to sell thousands of mops. Seeing that her business is booming, their manufacturer of plastic handler increased the cost and Joy do not want to buy it. Thanks to her high IQ she can decide immediately by calculating complex accounting formulas. But it got wrong when Peggy (her half-sister) came to that company and agreed to it. Knowing that this would make the business unsustainable, Joy had to go to the manufacturing site and trespassed the plant. She then learned that they patented Joy’s mop as their own. Trudy and Rudy confronted Joy telling her to file bankruptcy and Trudy tell her these:

“It takes a kind of toughness. A certain acumen that you simply don’t have.”

Well this knocked me so hard. Why I cannot be sweet and understanding? Kind and gentle while successful in life? Why do I have to spit bad words? Why there should be a winner and a LOSER? Why do I have to break any rules? Why I can’t be the saint that the heaven can put in my head like a crown? Why life is so hard that I have to belong to the ones who can put a hammer to any itchy hand or bulldozer to anything that will come on my way?

Then here is Joy. Bet her life and everything she care and own into a solitude. Reading every shit of legal papers, she hated a night before. And got an idea!

Stan Lee: Fred, son…

Fred: Dad?

Stan and Fred: I wear ‘em front, I wear ‘em back, I go inside out, then I go front and back.

Well, that’s what Joy did. As there’s nothing left that she can tell her own, she read the papers and see if there’s still meaning in the hope Mimi gave to her.

..hours after,.. she made a makeover. Maybe to become an acumen Trudy told her she does not have and face the cruel world that tried her fate.

And we know what happened in the ending. From a little spark of hope she made it into words and words became gunshots and gunshots became a ripple effect of good events to her life.

Wow! At last, the protagonist won. After not being able to breath easily because of praying so hard for Joy, she made it! Oh God. I know, If joy made it, you also can!

Just be the same kind, righteous, bold and hopeful person like “Mimi” wanted you to be. Yah, I know life is really challenging, so let me remind you, “EnJOY your life!”

The reason I watched My ID is Gangnam Beauty is because I also want to know the answer a question that this series might tell me.

What is real beauty? I'm really curious about that, but unexpectedly the series lead me to the true question lingering at the back of my mind. As they said, you cannot kill the grass by not pulling it from its roots. And through this series, I faced the question that hiding behind the question, "What is real beauty?"

"What really makes you happy?"

Mi Rae got plastic surgeries not to become pretty but to become confident in taking selfies. She wanted to become pretty just not to hear badmouths about her appearance. Seems like she and Soo-a lived in a world where you will only be accepted if you are good looking. She wanted to become pretty to look cute while she is dancing "new face" in a big crowd. A pretty face not to be dumped by her crush (the boy said he does not like her because she is the "Kang Orc") Just an ordinary pretty face and slim body to be accepted. Kang Mi Rae became truly sad. She just wanted to be accepted.

Her college days came and tada! She transformed! But the process of having everybody like her did not come automatically. She faced many difficulties and questions until she gained it by learning to accept herself. Girl, acceptance comes from inside. You don't have to care what other people tell you. You do not have to care if what you do looks awful or cute. Just be true to yourself. Not faking or lie for anything. Just keep dancing and try new things specially what interests you. And have a pure heart. Is'nt it a relief if you don't do anything bad to others? And just speak and stand for what is right. If you let the real beauty come out? If you let the real beauty in you come out--- you'll learn to accept yourself right? Regardless of how you would look like?

So what would make Kang Mi Rae and Soo-a happy? It's something that they will start to search for. And alas, these were not showed in the series. Maybe we have to know if there is unloved Kang Mi Rae and Soo-a inside of us., to know what would make them truly happy. ❤️

Years gone by and I am finding myself becoming an ambitious woman. Yumi’s Cells Season 1 & 2

(Review with Spoilers)

How many times did your heart skip a bit for a person? How many times have you defined your day by seeking your block crush, K-pop Idol bias, or coffee guy in the office? That is definitely a fun habit. You get a positive feeling or endorphin to have a drive to be productive. A feeling that stays even though you laughed too much with your friends. Without thinking that it is fake just to blend in in the atmosphere.

Maybe you have known that since first grade. But I do not really understand why it is natural for many women. All I learned is that women are created to be affectionate and feel love and belonging in a family. I hope that it happens to all of us, but in reality, this is a challenge that we cannot escape because of how mischievous fate is.

Yumi grew up in a loving family and since then she has always been ready to give it to the man she ever dreamt of marrying. There is Ugi from college, who left her for another woman. There is Wung who I really adore since he just left her because of his ill-fated career. And there is Ba Bi who she just unknowingly unloved. I don’t get it but what happened to Yumi is a result of circumstances that people around her are going through. It is a K-drama where there is no antagonist since each character is hoping for the best for everyone but just has different priorities to act upon. Because of this, Ruby, Yumi, Ba Bi, Sae Yi, Da Eun, and Wung can’t help but hurt each other. But, if you look at the big picture, all this friction brought the characters to the ending that will make them happy. Ruby ended up with Illustrator Control Z, Yumi became a successful writer, Ba Bi proved how he could give way to others, and Wung became a successful game developer.

Definitely, Yumi’s Cell is a K-Drama for teens and teens-at-heart (like me) women like me. Yes, it is hard to listen to your heart always because you do not really know where you will end up. But as I walked through the series with Yumi, what brought her to a happy ending (for season 2) was how honest she is with herself. She used the Rational Cell to decide most things more than the Love Cell and Sensitivity Cell. But based on how I look at it, Yumi is a simple and kind woman who learned to love herself more than any boys out there.

Maybe we grow up dreaming every night of riding a horse with our prince charming, but if we realize that knowing ourselves and believing in what we can do can really make us happy, that is really a dealbreaker with sadness. I am not saying that we all stay single until we have a six-digit bank account or a successful career. But Yumi finally became truly happy when she was able to prove to herself that her dream had come true. It is being a successful writer that she buried when she was younger since she thought she had no talent for it. Why should she think that way if this is a career she always dreamt of having? A passion is like a religion. You do not choose which church you should belong to; it is the religion that chooses you. It is the same with passion, it is the passion who chooses you. Do you want to know what it is? One way is what Stephen Covey wrote in the book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People; think of what you loved to do when you were a fifth grader (seven years old or younger) without thinking. If you are curious, I always want to watch TV, TV shows, and Music Videos. That is why my mom gave me a stereo when I became an honor student when I was a 3rd grader.

Why try to ask yourself, what is this something you can do to prove to yourself you are greater than what you think? Maybe you will think of 1 or 5. You can try to do some of them and if it did not work out, why not try another? Life is a continuous self-discovery and winning is just a step farther from almost giving up. And you can stop if you think it is no longer making sense. Try hard but still be gentle to yourself.

At the end of season 2 which is Christmas Eve, Yumi is alone but happy. All her cells are happy. That happens when she learns to love herself first. <3

I am so excited for Season 3! :D

💯Time is the most valuable resource and because of that, we need to know how we should spend our time. In this book, I learned how I can recognize which is important and urgent which should be prioritized in a day. Urgent, which is second to be prioritized in a day; what can we set aside but should be done; and what can we delegate. I am not good with delegating, so this part is enlightening to me. Hahaha…

✌️You can take care of your health, career, family, and passion 100% as long as you know how to manage. The book will help you how.

🗿Acne breakout is pretty common to us regardless of the weather of the country we are in. Acne breakout may also be due to impurities in our skin or hormonal imbalance in our body. But it does not mean we cannot do anything about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

🏫Gusto mo bang malaman kung paano ang highschool life nameng mga millenials? 🤔

Well, maybe I am just at the one side of the coin 🪙pero sa pag ikot ko sa school namen ng apat na taon, hindi ko makakalimutan ang speech choir, Anime, Harry Potter movies, mga opm bands, mga aklat ng Precious Hearts Romance at ni Bob Ong.📚

💯Maganda at malaki ang school namen, kahit umaabot sa 70 students ang bawat section samen, may space padin yung school para maglaro sa damuhan at mag cheerdance sa covered court. 👯Malaki din ang canteen namen pero hindi pang SM Foodcourt na sari saring ulam meron. Simpleng mga juice 🥤ng tinderang naka ballpen yung kilay at pinaka mabili ang sandwiches at cream-o. 🍪

Sikat din nung time ko dun yung mga banda like Cushe, Hale, Spongecola, Callalily, at Kamikazee. 🎸🥁Siguro dahil din dun crush nameng girls yung mga lalaking marunong mag gitara or hangang ngayon ata ganun? Comment nalang kayong mga bagets para malinawagan ako. Haha… 🤣Uso din ang mga ethnic dances at yun yung laging panlaban sa mga dance contests.

📲Dahil wala pang laptops at smartphones (keypad phones lang, yung hangang Space Impact lang nalalaro namen) ✈️ang mobile naming nadadala na libangan ay mga books. Sa mga di mahilig magbasa, chismisan lang, asaran, at kantahan. Section 1 ako nung first year, 3rd year, at 4th year. 2nd year ako naging section 2 at kahit ganun, active padin ang classmates ko sa school activities. Yun nga lang mas maraming may lovelife ang section 2, nadamay tuloy ako. 💞🤭

Since madalas akong naging section 1, mahihilig mag-aral ang mga nasa paligid ko. 🤓Pero kung may isang classmate akong di makakalimutan, isa dun yung bookish kong classmate na may pen name na Baka_Usagi sa Wattpad. Dahil sa kanya, nakabasa ako sa unang pagkakataon ng Filipino book. Ito ang ABNKKBSNPLAko ni Bob Ong. Oo, nung highschool to college years ko sikat din si Bob Ong. 2006 to 2014 ako nag highschool at college. 👵Itong unang nabasa kong book yung First Published nya.

Sa mga di nakaka alam, nagsimula muna maging blogger si Bob Ong at mga topics nya yung mga comments nya tungkol sa buhay estudyante at pagiging Pinoy. Pagkatapos lumaki ang community nya, nagsimula na sya magsulat ng mga aklat. Sobrang nakaka aliw ang mga aklat nya. 😅

Dahil studious ako, naging relief din basahin ang ABNKKBSNPLAko. 🧘‍♀️Bago ako mag blogging, sya muna ang binabasa kong nagku kwento tungkol sa buhay nya na puno din ng pagsubok para sa isang kabataan. Kung tutuosin, natuto din ako sa kanyang wag maging grade conscious at worrier sa hinaharap. Na kahit magkaroon ka ng bagsak sa isang subject o malito sa course na kukunin, masusurvive mo din yung mga experience na yun basta marunong ka bumangon at lumapit sa mga taong handang gumabay sayo. 😔Pero sabi ko nga, napaka kwela ng laman ng aklat kaya ultimately, natutunan ko enjoyin ang buhay estudyante. ☺️

💜 The Days When IU Sing Me Lullabies 🌷

If I think of KPOP artists that remind me of my Pandemic Years, one of them is no other than IU (Lee Ji-eun). 🌸During the pandemic, she released the album lilac and it became my favorite album of hers. 💜I do not know why but I remember everything I learned about IU. I really cannot understand but maybe it is simply because she is South Korea’s Little Sister. Naaa.. I am just kidding. My ears like IU’s voice. I cannot argue with my ears. I am not crazy. Hehe… Her voice is really relaxing, and it helps me to be calm, especially every time I am having stress because of work. 🌝

Another reason is, she is an inspiration for my generation. For the Kpop stars I know, IU, Do Kyungsoo, and Kim Seokjin have similarities in my heart. IU was born May 16, 1993, Do Kyungsoo was born January 12, 1993, and Kim Seokjin was born December 4, 1992. My Birthday is April 14, 1992. 🐏From what I see, there are many successful artists younger than IU, DO, and Jin but they still thrive in the industry. The perseverance of IU since she was young, the authenticity of D.O, and the humbleness of Jin, these are the qualities that they should be proud of. They embraced the fire within themselves despite hardships they faced while in a 3rd generation of KPOP.

If they could succeed, I know I can too, regardless of if I only learned what I want to do in my 20s. 🪽

Here are some of the facts and my opinions about IU.

IU was supported by her grandmother with her career. Since they lack financial resources, they even lived in a house infested by cockroaches 🪳. In my third attempt to study for the CPA board exam, I rented a room that I did not know at first that there would be cockroaches when I turn off the lights. It even came to a point that I woke up with a cockroach wound in my hand. That was a horrible experience. 😖

Just like the other rookies in the K-pop industry, IU started as nobody. She was able to release songs but yet to make a mark. But she was able to introduce her talent when she released the song, “Good Day”. ☀️Nobody knew that IU can sing really well since she can sing up to 3 octaves for Good Day. That is the start when people turned their heads to her.

IU said Dear Name is one of her songs that is hardest to sing.

IU was recently diagnosed with Patulous Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. According to Hopkins Medicine, the disorder causes one to hear themselves too loudly, creating discomfort.

It is a disorder of the valve of the Eustachian tube that causes it to remain open. When the valve remains open, sound can travel from the nasal-sinus cavity to the ears, allowing you to hear your own voice or your own breathing too loudly, or even the sound of blood pumping. — Hopkins Medicine”

IU revealed in the documentary that she felt the disorder was due to her anxiety.

Her boyfriend Lee Jong Suk is older than her but he said that he feels like she is older since she is always at LJS side especially through his hardships. IU is good at giving advice. 💚🙂‍↕️

The song “BIBI” is a protest against the toxic media around Kpop artists like her. If you attempt to research the meaning of lyrics and music video of the song, I bet it will last for a week. Haha… 💛

🐳Her Skeleton Skinny Diet - To do this, IU would drink a lot of water for 5 days straight about 3LT every day. On the day before the event (6th day), IU would stop drinking. Then on the 7th day, she would look like a skeleton. She often does this in preparation for Music Videos. If you want to do this, please do not do this without a doctor’s supervision. 🙂‍↔️

👨Hong Dae-young’s Dream and Happiness 🍀

How painful it was for Dae-young and Da-Jung to raise a family? At a very young age, they faced the challenge of raising two children and eventually struggled to keep one happy family. 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

🫂I was touched by this K-drama not because I have or longing for a family. But to also sympathize with Da-young’s life which is filled with a promising future. 🎖️Back in the days when the couple was high school students, Da-young was a great basketball player who was a candidate for a college scholarship. 🏀But his hope and even his parent’s dream for him were shattered when he became a young father.👨‍🍼

It was painful for me to watch Da-young persevere to go back to playing basketball when eventually gave it up again for his children. ✨When his children were young and thought that he could juggle studies and being a father, his son Shi-woo needed treatment for Asthma. After silently hoping to bring back his life, he only carried within himself the sadness and regret because he had to give it up. Not to set aside, but to give up. Officially, his youth was taken away from him. 🍂🍂🍂

💭This is what is happening to many of us. It is easy to say for our teachers and YouTube mentors that we can do anything to reach for our dreams, but in reality, many gave it up to choose the welfare of people we love or to have food, shelter, and money to pay bills. The feeling of being in a cloud 9 is unreachable because of the unending challenges we have.

Because of this, Dae-young became an alcoholic and nagging just like his father. 🍺

👦Dae-young is so lucky to have a second life to feel it is to be young again. Single and pursuing his dream. Playing basketball ⛹️‍♂️🏀is his passion and that is what his parents dream for him who are sacrificing everything for his sake. Living as Woo-young, he was able to show his father how it feels to have a successful son. He was able to tell his parents that he was thankful for everything they did for him. 🥰

🙏🏻How I wish everyone would have a second chance too. To realize that life can lead us to the realization of the meaning of happiness in our lives. Whether as a student, dreamer, friend, son, husband, or father,.. Da-young realized what happiness is in different definitions. 📖 And realizing the happiness of being a father, made his life priceless. 🤗

This coming Father’s Day, let us thank our Father for choosing happiness by taking care of us. 💞If you are a father, you can drink alcohol and enjoy it with your family. 🍻If you are a dreamer, maybe we can still reach it, but with a different ingredient, we just have to discover.

The Poignant Journey of the Ones Left Behind

After watching “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies,” I was asked if I could make my own story out of this movie. It was hard for me to answer this because Grandson M eventually learned his lesson after her grandma died compared to me who is someone full of sadness and regret after my Papa’s death.

After watching this movie, I kept thinking about why he should leave right before I could finally give back to my father for all his love for us. I said to my friend that right now, I am living in a distorted time after my Papa’s passing.

I am living in the present but the fuel of my spirit is my time with my Papa. Bad moments, good moments, the moments when he is driving his motorcycle with me, everything with him. I am looking at the future with no strong meaning. Why should I reach for success when I can no longer see his smile once I reach them? I kept thinking until I remembered his last words with me, he said, “Thank you, thank you Anak.” after I said that I set aside my work to take care of him together with the rest of the family.

My Papa became a man of few words months before his death. I believe it is a sign that he is losing hope for his battle against his sickness. For a woman who is too weak to give in, I never said goodbye to him until his last breath. Maybe that is the reason why my heart cannot reconcile to what happened. I do not know If I made him proud or if he felt how thankful I am for everything.

Maybe this regret will not go away, but now I know the lesson God gave me through his existence. My Papa thanked me for spending time with him before his last breath. Time is the greatest gift my Papa (and Mama) gave to us and it is the gift that my Papa ever wanted from us. I finally learned that time is a precious gift that I can offer to a loved one. What a lesson that I only learned 4 years after his death.

Then last night, I listened and saw the lyrics of "Yawn" by Seventeen. I learned that this was written by Woozi to give comfort to grieving Seungkwan. For those who do not know, Seungkwan went through a hiatus after his best friend's death, Astro’s Moonbin last April 2023. Somehow like me, Seungkwan always shows that he paddles through his memory of Moonbin every time he misses him. Over and over again, Seungkwan and the boys will not let us forget the memory of Moonbin who is a dear friend.

Maybe, even if we learned our lesson, we gave back, we spent time, or we were able to say our last words, we still don’t allow ourselves to end our memory of our deceased loved one. I think it is because our loved one is already a part of us.

If you think of me, please also think of my Papa.

If you think of Boo, please also think of Binnie.

I choose to close my 2021 chapter by sharing the KDrama that echoed lessons that were really for me. The KDrama is really calming to watch. And you guess it right, it is boring. I slept well many times after watching this. Hahaha!

The story focuses on cellist Mok Hae-won (Park Min-young) who decided to spend her hiatus in Gangwon Province where her auntie Shim Myeong-joo (Jin Hee-kyung) is living. There, she met again her schoolmate Im Eun-seob (Seo Kang-Joon) who had feelings for her since then.

The drama showcase how peaceful life is in the province where everyone knows each other and helps each other. Since the two protagonists are having feelings for each other, they are slowly helping each other heal the wound they have in their hearts. What the tearjerker for me is to know the tragic story of Myeong-joo who cannot let go of her past and living the present seems a hell before her true long-awaited death. I feel for her since I believe her life is the most realistic where you really think, “bakit nga ba di tayo paborito ng tadhana?”, [whey fate does not like us?] that you decided not to pursue happiness anymore. In the end, Myeong-joo decided to let go of the wrecking ball-like weight in her heart and lowkey started a new life.

From this drama, I learned not to give up on happiness even though there might be unfortunate events that would happen to us. That happiness is not easy to find alone, and even though you have someone, you still need to continue the conquest to find and keep this happiness in your heart because it would not stay with you that easily. We all deserve happiness. I tell you, no one else can take that happiness from you.

There is a close friend of mine who makes sure he will give me a letter whenever I am present in the semestral retreat, in the last retreat I attended, he said to me that he believes in me. In that alone, I believe and learned, everyone can have happiness. And it is you who can find and keep that. I may say in other words, only you,... who can define that. :)

P.S. What I also like about the Drama is it is full of poems, books, instrumental music, and sceneries. And the best poem for me is in the last 10 minutes of Episode 16. :D
