excuse me for stating the obvious but like. james gunn outright calling superman an immigrant and doubling down on it when he got backlash (because he IS an immigrant, that's the point of superman) + the in-movie dialogue of "aren't you going to read me my rights?" "you're an extraterrestrial, son. you haven't got any rights to read." + the violence of his arrest and how they torture and mistreat him unapologetically, all under the guise of "protecting america", in a film releasing during the onslaught of violent ICE kidnappings and abuse... yeah it's really no wonder right-wing knobheads are crying about this being woke. they're being forced to look directly at the reasons one of the most well-known and beloved heroes of all time would not be on their side. and that's only ONE of the reasons this movie covers

My understanding of why Travis is, frankly, an insecure, misogynistic asshole in Season 1 is rooted in his relationship with soccer and his father. He likely tried to become a soccer player to earn his dad’s approval, but his spinal condition and surgery made that impossible, only deepening his father’s disappointment. He spent his preteen and teen years on the sidelines, watching as his father poured all his pride and attention into the Yellowjackets. That resentment comes not from the girls themselves, but from what they represented: the love, validation, and masculine pride he was never given. And in Travis’s mind, even his father’s death during the crash, while trying to put an oxygen mask on one of the girls, reaffirmed that the team always came first. His lashing out after the crash is a manifestation of years of rejection. This sense of failure likely fueled not just his low self-esteem, but his overcompensation through toxic masculinity, shaping the guarded, insecure, and volatile version of Travis we see in Season 1.

RAHH i’m so excited for the next part! 😍
Remnant (A Venomous Sequel)
Chapter 8- The Way Things Go
Elias Voit X Reader
Summary: You go back to where it all started/Your actions spark an emotional reaction in Elias
Venomous previous part
“I have something I need to confess,” you whispered.
“Go on,” Emily said, cocking an eyebrow. “Last week, when I went alone to get more information from Elias while the team was busy, Dr. Ochoa and I got into what one may call a verbal altercation and I may have called her a ‘fucking toddler’” you said, making a face that silently said “Oops. Please forgive me”.
Emily sighed, “Was she acting like a fucking toddler?”. “SHE WAS” you exclaimed, moving your hands to emphasize your words. “I walked up to the door and they were having what sounded like a heated conversation. You know how nosy I am” she nodded in agreement. “So I stood outside the door and she was saying things like Elias needs to make sure I don’t whore myself out for him”. Emily’s jaw dropped.
“Yeah” you hadn’t realized you were pacing until you stopped. “Well that makes a lot of sense as to why she’s calling my phone, ranting about you” Emily said. “Sorry. It’s just..if anything suspicious is going on, it’s on her end. She’s so weird about Elias that it makes me cringe” you rolled your eyes. Before Emily could say anything further, there was a knock at the door. “Come in,” Emily said, sounding a little bit stressed.
Penelope opened the door, “Hi. Um JJ had a theory about Elias and long story short we figured out Elias has a secret burner phone that he’s been contacting people with” she said really fast. If you weren’t already exploding with anxiety, this was really the nail in the coffin. “Of course,” Emily exclaimed, rolling her eyes. “Do we know who he was contacting on there?” Emily asked, causing your heart to beat in your throat. “Yeah and they’ve been contacted by us. Everything has been covered except retrieving the phone” Penelope said, you let out a sigh of relief. “We have to go get the phone” Emily looked at Penelope who was shaking her head in agreement. “You’re going to” she pointed at you “Now”
————————————————————————
You arrived at the hospital with JJ and Tyler. Walking together, with Dr. Ochoa, she’s confused. “Are you sure about this?” she asked JJ, as the group all put on blue latex gloves. “We will be in about 30 seconds” JJ responded. “Why is she here?” Dr. Ochoa looked at you. You just rolled your eyes, definitely not in the right headspace to give her a reaction. “Hands behind your back” Tyler commanded Elias, as everyone stepped into his room. You were the last to enter and the first thing you saw was Tyler putting handcuffs on Elias, bending him over one of the hospital beds. “Damn” you whispered to yourself as JJ ransacked his room. If you weren’t so overwhelmed you may have pondered on what it would be like if Elias bent you over that hospital bed.
“Are you the one that’s been leaking information about this case?” JJ sternly asked. “You’re not gonna find anything” Dr. Ochoa said, causing your eyes to roll. Then, JJ found it. Elias’s burner phone. The burner phone he’s been calling you on frequently. JJ then went up to Elias to angrily ask him something, but you weren’t listening, just looking at him. “She shouldn’t be here” he exclaimed, looking at you. You knew he meant in the way of shouldn’t accompanying them after your fresh trauma.
Just like that, Tyler was reciting Elias’s Miranda Rights and ushering him out of the room.
————————————————————————
Elias was put inside an interrogation room in the BAU. The same interrogation room where the two of you first crossed paths. You were to go in the room first and after a couple minutes, Rossi was going to join you. Opening the door, you sighed and sat down across from him. “Wow. This is where it all started, huh?” you laughed slightly. He didn’t say anything, just looking up at you in an expression you couldn’t read. “You don’t have to say anything, I know why you did it and I don’t judge you for it” you said, placing your hand on his.
“Rossi is going to come in here soon”. “I invoked” he responded. “I thought you might be lonely. Plus, can you really say no to me?”, you made him quietly laugh. “You know right there,” you pointed to a spot closer to the wall, "is where you went absolutely feral over my tattoo”. “Because it looks beautiful on you” he said, slightly above a whisper. “Thank you”. “Listen Elias, no matter what happens, I’m always going to be around” you admitted to him. “I think it’s safe to say, I’m not going anywhere”, you squeezed his hand. There was a knock at the door. You quickly whispered “I love you”, quiet enough so only you and him could hear it, before Rossi opened the door.
You got up, leaning against the two-way mirror, while Rossi sat down. “Like I told her, I invoked” Elias told him while crossing his arms. Rossi silently got up, heading towards the door. Elias sighed, “All right, wait”, causing Rossi to turn around. “I’ll talk as long as she’s not here” he pointed at you. You looked confused, hurt even. “I just don’t need her to keep seeing me like this”. You did as you were told, silently turning around and walking out the door.
You didn’t really care what was happening. You heard Tyler and Emily talking, which seemed to be way more interesting. They had a theory that it was someone on Dr. Ochoa’s staff that helped him obtain the phone. Following them into the bullpen, Rebecca and Tara were standing at their evidence board. “Oh good, you two are here” Tara exclaimed. “What if the disciple was a woman?” Rebecca conspired, looking between the both of you. Tara went on a tangent, explaining everything to Emily, but you were zoned out again. Woman? Elias never told you about any woman he worked with. He’s too arrogant to work with a partner.
————————————————————————
After Kyle Mackey’s wife yelled at him in the interrogation room, getting him to talk to the team, Emily left the bullpen to be the one he’d talk to. You were tasked with playing with Ava, Kyle’s daughter, while her mom screamed at her dad for burying Ava alive. You weren’t necessarily fond of kids, but you didn’t hate them. Sitting across from her at a small table in the same room where that kid brought up Will to JJ in a “prayer”, you didn’t really know how to entertain a child. Grabbing some paper and crayons, you figured that could distract her long enough.
“What are you thinking about drawing, Ava?” you asked her, noticing she was still apprehensive about you. “I’m not sure” she mumbled. You thought if you started drawing first, maybe it would get her to warm up to you, so that is what you did. “I think I’m going to draw a cat,” you said. “I have a cat at home. She’s very sweet. I’ll draw her”. You weren’t much of an artist, but you were drawing with a child, it didn’t need to be Picasso level good. “I’ll draw my dog” Ava perked up after learning about your cat. She asked you questions about your cat. What color she was. What her name was. Long hair or short hair. You were starting to actually enjoy it, so was Ava.
You didn’t notice Elias walking past the room with Rossi. He was further behind him, moping about the whole situation. He stopped by the window of the room, watching you and Ava, a smile growing on his face. You were perfect to him, and seeing you with a child warmed his heart. It made him feel things he didn’t realize he was capable of feeling. Rossi noticed Elias wasn’t behind him anymore, turning around to see him looking at you and Ava. He walked up to Elias and watched with him.
“You love her, don’t you?” He asked Elias. “More than anything” he admitted, never taking his eyes off of you. Realizing what he said, he quickly turned to face Rossi. “Please don’t tell the others,” he pleaded. “Everyone can already tell, Elias,” Rossi said. Elias turned back to look at you, Ava was hugging you as she showed off her drawing. “Promise me admitting this to you doesn’t affect her and her job?” he pleaded. “She loves her job, she’s great at it. I don’t want my feelings for her to ruin something good she has”. “I won't,” Rossi said, placing his hand on Elias’s shoulder. “If the circumstances were different, the two of you would be very cute together,” he admitted.
Then you looked up, noticing Elias and Rossi, and waved. “I didn’t think after what you put her through the first go around, she’d even let you near her again, let alone work with you again”. Rossi laughed. “You should’ve seen her after the network was taken down and you were gone, she’s a feisty one”. “I can tell” Elias responded as an agent walked into the room to bring Ava back out. You soon followed.
“Take a picture it’ll last longer” you laughed as you walked out, noticing the two men watching you. “She seemed to like you,” Rossi said. “Yeah. She was cute” you responded, walking with them towards the bullpen. “Can we have a moment, Rossi?” Elias asked. He nodded his head. “What's up?” you asked, concerned. ‘I’m really sorry for what happened earlier,” he apologized. “No it’s fine I understand”. “Hey, later will you come by the hospital? I want to talk to you without your coworkers watching and they took my phone so we can’t communicate like most people do” he laughed. “Yeah of course” you said, sincerely.
It was silent for a couple seconds, comfortable silence. You were the first to break the silence. “I’m going to talk to the team and then head home”. “I’ll see you tonight” you said before starting to walk off. He grabbed your arm, causing you to turn around “Promise?” he asked.
I promise.
————————————————————————
When you arrived at the hospital, it was dark outside. You told yourself it was because you needed to decompress before going back in public, but really you were just hoping to avoid Dr. Ochoa. After her calling Emily to rant about you, she was the last person you wanted to see. You walked into the elevator, pressing the floor button, and you sighed. You couldn’t believe the shit that has been happening this week. Or really, this past year.
Hearing the elevator ding snapped you out of your thoughts. You walked over to Elias’s room, his door was open. “Hi” you said, getting his attention. He was zoned out. “Hey” he responded, dryly. “What’s wrong?” you asked. “Nothing. I’ve just been thinking”. “That’s never good” you joked, causing him to laugh. “But seriously what about?”. “You” is all he said. “Me? Why me?” you were concerned. “When you were with Ava today” he sighed, not looking at you “It was cute, but it made me upset”. “How did it make you upset?” you were really confused now. “Because” he finally looked up at you, almost like he was about to cry, “That’s something we’ll never get. Something I’ll never get back” he confessed.
You walked up to him and sat down in the spot beside him, resting your head on his shoulder. “Sure our situation is….not ideal. Also bordering on immoral, but we don’t need a domestic life together to be happy” you said. He put his head in his hands for some time and then turned to you, “But that’s what I want”. “I know. However, you made the decisions you did and now that’s not an option” you grabbed his hand. “I’d never make those decisions now” he whispered, but you heard it. “Good,” you whispered back. He moved your face to look at him, lovingly meeting your lips with his.
What was just a simple kiss, turned into something more heated until there was a knock at his door. “What the fuck?’ he whispered. “Come in?” he apprehensively responded, standing up. Dr. Ochoa walked in, wearing plain clothes. You realized you had never seen her without her hair up. “What is she doing here?” you asked Elias. She looked at you and pointed, “What is she doing here?”. Elias didn’t respond to either of you. You watched as she stepped closer. She was angry.
“After everything we’ve done for you? I have done for you?”. “Can I just explain?” he asked. “You are going to listen,” she said sternly. “Elias, I defended you. I justified you. I protected you”. You interrupted her, “I can’t help but notice this sounds a lot like some kind of fucked up break up speech” raising your hand, slightly. “Who’s phone was it? Did you text your little girlfriend on it?” she asked. “Woah. Woad. Woah. Hold on” you stood up, more sass in your words this time. “I don’t know. I just found it on a nurse’s station” he said. You stood by him, eyes moving from him to Dr. Ochoa in a confused cycle.
“Of course you did. Of course you did. Because that’s who you are” she stated. “You may not be a psychopath, but you’re not a good person either” then she turned to look at you. “And you? You’re just as bad”. “Don’t talk to her like that” Elias demanded. “Me? You’re the one that calls the Unit Chief of the BAU to tattle on me for some shit you have no proof of. Why? Because you’re jealous? Ever since I walked into this building for the first time, you haven’t liked me” you said, stepping closer to get in her face. “I’m not going to fight with you over a fucking man” you then turned to Elias “No offense”. Turning back to her, you said “Your patient nonetheless. So, Julia, Elias isn’t the only person who knows how to beat the fuck out of somebody”. He put his arm in front of you in preparation “(Y/N) she’s not worth it”. “You’re right” you stepped back.
The lights in the hallway went off. You turned to Elias, “What the fuck is going on?” Shots were being fired outside of the room “Holy shit” you said as Elias grabbed you and put his hand over your mouth. Then, the door slowly opened. A man’s hand holding a gun moved through the crack of the door. Tears were starting to form in your eyes. You didn’t think you’d be traumatized, being comforted by Elias EVER, let alone two days in a row.
You started ot whimper in fear. Elias shushed you in a soothing way, but it didn’t help the racing of your heart. Then the man slowly moved his hand up,
And turned off the lights.
a/n: we’re getting closer to the end of the story. but i do have drafts of things to post after this, so don’t worry
