it  should  be  comforting.      a  way  to  show   affection   —   physical  contact  should  make  her  feel   warm,   but  it  only  brings  shivers  down  her  spine.   she  doesn’t   let  go   like  she  did  the  first  few  times   —   decides  it’s  better  if  she  tries  not  to   fight   the  ghosts  she  sees,  but  her  eyes  are   squeezed   shut,  and  he  can’t  have  missed  the   sharp   intake  of  breath  which  followed.

she’s  used  to  seeing     bodies  fall  to  the  ground,  now --- but  she  thinks  she’ll never  get  used  to  the  feeling  of   inducing   decay.   she’ll never  get  used  to  the  distinctive  feeling  of   pain   that  comes  from  it,  all  over  her  body,  like  it’s   pulsating   with  someone  else’s  life  energy ----- she  hopes  jasper  doesn’t  feel  it  every  time.

her  eyes  well   up  with  tears.     it’s  inevitable.   she  feels  what   he    feels  and  what  she  feels  all  at  once,  mixed  up,  and  it’s  always  so  much   guilt   and  so  much   hurt,   they’re  both  drowning  in  it.   before  she  can  realize  it,  her  fingers  have  intertwined  with  his  on  their  own,  but  her  grip  is  so  strong  she  feels  his  bones   shift.

it’s  over  faster     than  before,  and  when  she  opens  her  eyes  to  meet   nothing  but   warmth   in  his,  she  lets  the  tears  fall  freely  down  her  face,  hand  still  stubbornly  holding  his,  even  though  she  can  feel  the  new   wave   of  memories  coming.

‘      i  can’t-------     i  can’t    stop    this,  jas,  i’m   so   sorry---  you  don’t-  you  don’t  deserve  this.      ’
