Good day! Here is our video that showcases the process of making the BLOCKSTIQUE. This is only a prototype to our vision in synthesizing a device that will reduce plastic pollution. ------------- This is our proposed prototype presented at the CNU Biology laboratory infront of our classmates and professor, Prof. Edward Laurence Opena. This is our proposed product to reduce plastic pollution which is relevant in our modern times. ------------- Much of the process was done at the Llames' residence with plastic water bottles as one of the materials used to make the prototype. Critiques are openly accepted 馃挒. -------------- CEBU NORMAL UNIVERSITY BS BIOLOGY 3 SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND SOCIETY -------------- BATOY, RIKKI MARTIEN CAMARILLO, JESSALYN DABON, HARVEY DE PEDRO, CHRISTIAN FLORES, RAYNAN JUSTINIANE, JESUS RICABORDA, HENRY LLAMES, MA. PATENT MODEL: MOULDS FOR SHAPING PLASTICS
Plastics are relevant since the dawn of its creation. This creation was very useful in its own right. Plastics are lightweight and highly durable and it has crawled into many industries. Plastics are mainly used as packagings to many products. Plastics can be聽moulded into any piece desired. They are very prevalent in modern day society and is an important invention of our time.
Plastics quickly became famous because of its versatility in function and usage. With this fame, plastics also become famous in dump sites and trashes. The first product that comes to mind when a person talks about garbage is plastic. With the accumulation of plastics comes pollution which is also a prevalent issue in modern society. These plastics can take up to decades just to naturally degrade itself when a banana peel only takes a shorter period of time.
One solution our group has come up with is the production of moulds to shape bricks made up of plastic. Moulds are relevant in today鈥檚 time. Moulds are used in creating pastries, homemade popsicles, and other culinary dishes. Some moulds are formed to shape weaponry such as swords. Other types of moulding that are being used today are blow moulding聽for the manufacture of glass products and compression moulding for the shaping of rubber boots and other rubber products. These types of moulding are beneficial for industrial use. Although the production of these moulds is useful for culinary, weaponry, and industrial use, we decided to produce a mould that will shape unwanted plastics to bricks that are made up of plastic. These plastic bricks will take up 20 plastic bottles which will certainly lessen plastic abundance. They are also excellent in the insulating of heat because compared to a typical brick, plastic bricks are 5 times more efficient in insulating heat. Plastic bricks also produce 95% lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to concrete bricks.
Although plastics are useful in today鈥檚 time, it is inevitable for them to be a burden as well. Plastic waste is as threatening as they are perceived by today's聽scientists. Humanity should do something about this problem. This proposed solution of ours is a stepping stone which will elevate innovations a notch further to and for the improvement of our environment.

The Past, Present, and Future of Compass
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Compasses are devices used for navigation. It is very essential for transportation and travelling. It is small and compact. It displays the primary directions present as it possesses a magnetic needle.聽
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽These devices are dated back to ancient times. This device is one of many devices from the ancient times that is still relevant in this modern era. The ancient Chinese compass from the Han dynasty was made from a bronze platform with a spoon-like figure that is made from magnetic iron ores that always point to the south, unlike modern compasses. The primary function of this device is for divination purposes especially Feng Shui. It was until the Song dynasty that this device was used for military navigational orienteering. Eventually, the ancient Chinese compass was used for maritime navigation from 1111 to 1117.
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Modern compasses are far better than the ancient compass. Present-day compasses are now made up of magnetic needles than the traditional iron ores. The needle always points to the north, unlike the ancient compass that always points to the south. Present-day compasses are essential in a plethora of professions, seamen and pilots alike. They help navigators and travellers alike in navigating the unfamiliar environments in order for them to reach their desired destination. Derivatives of the compass are state of the art technologies such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) and some service apps like Grab and Uber utilizes this technology in order to satisfy users in providing them reliable travels and services.
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽The future will transcend from the technologies that we have today. The ingenuity of installing navigational features in mobile phones is a feat for the navigational purposes that the compass was primitively used as. Studies will flourish聽regarding the propagation of the polishing of these technologies will be prevalent. Products from these studies will be beneficial to the future generation as it is also an answer to future needs.聽聽

The Nature of Science and Technology
聽 聽 聽What comes to mind when one talks about science? A population of people will think about experiments, a nerd will recite its bookish definition (me), a kid鈥檚 favorite subject, or another kid鈥檚 most dreaded subject. Whatever it may be, science is a systematic body of knowledge that is based on facts. Science follows a system to answer questions pertaining to natural phenomena. Science is further branched to fields of expertise that focuses on different contexts of nature, be it physical or biological. People behind this blog are studying biology at Cebu Normal University. Biology is the scientific study of life. We can go down to its etymology since this field is our passion but what is necessary is that biology studies the intricacies of life.
聽 聽 聽Technology is applied science. It is the applied scientific knowledge to a plethora of activities to accomplish endeavors that will benefit the human race. Technology has existed since the dawn of man. Early men use stone and shaped it into tools for them to use as weapons and other equipment for survival. Mankind continues to prove his ingenuity and creativity throughout history by producing equipment and some of those technologies that they use is still existing today. Technology has come a long way, mankind has invented a multitude of devices and equipment that a millennial will consider essential.
聽 聽 聽Science and technology are inseparable. Science gave rise to technology and technology leads to science. The contribution that science and technology have given to mankind has of massive聽effect that it greatly affected mankind鈥檚 generation. Though these two have a great impact, it is inevitable that the existence of science and technology made alternations to the very environment that we live in. Issues are circulating that threaten the well-being of our planet and it is now the job of science and technology to give back to our planet by providing solutions so that we can benefit more from its beauty for the years to come.
