“When something catches your attention, just keep your attention on it, stick with it ‘til the end, and somewhere along the line there’ll be weirdness. I’ve never tried to explain it to anyone before, but what i mean to say is that a whole lot of technically impossible things are always trying to happen to us, appear to us, talk to us, show us pictures, or just say hi, and you can’t pay attention to all of it, so I just pick the nearest technically impossible thing and I let it happen. Let me know how it goes if you try it. And if you’re thinking I’m going to grow out of this, you’re wrong.” - Helen Oyeyemi, Boy, Snow, Bird

I think a lot of what people have missed about the Jordan protests right now is that there are many Palestinians in Jordan (Jordan is home to the largest Palestinian refugee population in the world) - a lot of the protesters you’re seeing out on the streets aren’t just Jordanian but Palestinian refugees watching what has been happening in their original homeland and to their families.

A Palestinian father kisses his young son goodbye before being displaced from his home around Hebron. Circa. 1967.
In 1967 after Israel occupied the Palestinian territories (WB and Gaza), 280,000 to 325,000 Palestinians were displaced from their homes, 10 Palestinian villages were destroyed, and 2 Palestinian refugee camps destroyed.
This event is known as the Naksa, the second Palestinian exodus.
(not be confused with the Nakba, the first Palestinian exodus.)

a government that takes voter's opinions as a suggestion rather than a rule is not a democracy and should not be expected to function like one. stop expecting people to vote for a candidate that kills people just because you're still hanging on to the idea that your government that means anything

Another fundraiser I trust!
Please help Ezzideen and his family leave Rafah. We've spoken before, and I'm familiar with his previous attempt at an initiative that couldn't be done unfortunately. So they've resorted to trying to leave Ghazzah.
Please donate if there's anything you can spare!

All this trivializing language feels so insidiously deliberate. The ICJ going “We give you one month to show compliance” is essentially them insinuating that the famine in Palestine isn’t so bad that it can’t wait another month for aid to come in. Mainstream media going “This Hamas-Israel war needs to stop” implies that there are two sides to this genocide, when in reality it’s just the IOF versus displaced, starved Palestinians. The ICJ not calling for a permanent ceasefire implies Israel has a right to resume its genocidal acts at some point in the future, that it was never wrong to enact a genocide to begin with. Nothing on an international scale has truly given this the weight it deserves. It all feels so misleading.

I don’t wanna hear anyone go “at least the ICJ tried! This is a change from the status quo!” That’s literally the exact reaction they want to provoke by issuing something like this. They just want their “I tried” sticker. No entity that cares for Palestinians would wholeheartedly go “This can bear another one month trial” they’d shut that shit down immediately. It’s just another weakly worded order that holds no water, and which Israel will ignore just as it did in January. It really is true that the whole entire world has failed Palestine—including international law itself.
It has gotten so much worse since the ICJ ordered a ceasefire. 19 Palestinians were killed by the IOF at the Al-Kuwait aid distribution point, while in the West Bank up to 7,800 Palestinians have been detained. There are reports of Israeli forces taking the bodies of massacred Palestinians, to do god knows what with them. Reports of up to 25 Palestinians killed in Rafah, per Let’s Talk Palestine. Reports of 4 Palestinians bulldozed to death in central Gaza. Reports of Gaza closer and closer to famine. It’s horrific. This really feels like Israel going out of its way to murder more and more Palestinians, just to prove that the ICJ order means nothing (which it doesn’t).
