In hindsight, Teddy realized that he should have made concrete plans with Thomas before they parted. Yet between his frazzled nerves and living in a modern age the fact that he couldn’t contact nor search for him completely slipped his mind. Now all he could do was wait and make opportunities for Thomas to approach him. That meant trying to predict how he’d go about it.
Although that didn’t mean that Teddy planned to eat alone for the sake of someone who may or may not show up during dinner. He was already doing him a huge favor as it was. The least he could do was figure out a discreet way to get his attention himself.
Teddy periodically scanned the food court while he contentedly listened to the chatter of his brother and his friends and occasionally swallowed his food to throw in a flat remark. Said remarks had a fifty percent chance of either making people laugh or stop in their tracks. Then once he finished eating he took a more active role in the conversation.

(Previous) Thomas looked at Teddy with surprise as he realized that’s the common nickname for Theodore. Then a smile cracked across his face. “Ohhh. Teddy, Freddy, Eddie. Heh, I like that.” Thomas then gave him a short nod, a “catch you later,” and disappeared. He really liked how that interaction went, coming away from it with both clarity and hope. One thing was for certain, though; Thomas had to speak with Cyrus before he left for Mati. He felt bad having to leave them, but… After spending so long often putting the needs of others first, his own safety and wellbeing now came first. Thomas deserved to leave.
At first Teddy thought that Thomas smiled because he was excited about becoming friends and started to mirror it. Yet his smile had hardly finished forming when it fell only to be replaced with a cold, judgemental stare. (Which, to be fair, didn’t look any different than his default expression to an untrained eye.)
Seriously? How did he not he notice the theme earlier? Teddy shook his head in disbelief as he crawled out of the vents.

(Previous) Bert was slightly caught off guard when Teddy grabbed his hand and led him toward the correct direction, stumbling a little bit as he turned. That was fair, since Bert was going the wrong way. But he just was not in the mood to be holding hands the entire way… So in a stroke of genius Bert announced, “I really ought to download the brochure. You would think I would have by now!” He slipped his hand out of Teddy’s to retrieve his phone from his pocket, then proceeded to find the brochure that he indeed didn’t have downloaded. Once he had it, he looked at the map to navigate alongside Teddy.
When Bert slipped his hand away Teddy realized that, in hindsight, his brothers were likely the only ones who thought suddenly pulling them along by the hand was acceptable. Or randomly holding onto their hand at all for all he knew.
Teddy awkwardly rubbed his head while Bert worked on downloading the brochure. He was tempted to apologize. Yet he wasn’t sure if it’d cause more harm than good when the person in question didn’t want to acknowledge it.
By the time Bert had gotten the map up Teddy had stuffed his phone back into his pocket. He attentively watched Bert as he waited for him to move so he could follow.

(Previous) Bert excitedly clasped his hands together. “Ohh! You have read my mind because that is what I wanted to see first!” He started walking at a leisurely pace. “Every year their impossible constructions get more… Impossible! And yet they are entirely possible! I always end up completely and hopelessly lost in them. Ah, how fun.“
Teddy gleefully chuckled as he matched Bert’s pace. “The map helps... sometimes. My favorite part is the shifting perspective.”
Once he located Escher Town he grabbed Bert’s hand and turned to walk towards it while glancing between his phone and the space ahead of him. As usual, the entry points varied with each convention.

(Previous) “Okay… I’ll meet you at the foodcourt later, then.” Thomas quickly moved up so Theodore could duck under him better. Then he called out after him, “I won’t. A-and Theodore… Thank you for taking the time to talk.”
Teddy looked back with a soft smile. “Thank you, Thomas. I’m glad we got this opportunity too.”
After a moment he added, “You can call me Teddy. I go by Theodore around people I want to keep at a distance.”

(Previous) Thomas became nervous at the mere mention of Cas. He only interacted with him once but he didn’t trust him one bit. But he was curious about the suggestion that Cas could even text at all. Thomas nodded when Theodore offered to help. “Alrighty. Thank you.” He then rubbed his arm. “M-maybe you should get back there. Someone might start wondering why you’ve been gone for so long.”
Teddy snickered between his teeth. “As if they give enough of a damn to.” Then he reapplied his medical creams before opening a small bag that expanded to reveal two halves of a fresh eyeshield. He made sure it was securely fastened and stood up.
“...Although I should probably work on that thing while I still have time,” he said with a sigh as he stretched his legs. Then he briskly said.
“The CAPT Project lab’s room number is C471. It’s the closest to Captain Tim’s wing and approximately four floors up from the pool Lord Hater got last year. I’d write down directions but...”
He came to a stop when he realized that it was better left unsaid and awkwardly shrugged. “I could lead you from the food court later.”
With that Teddy gave Thomas a small low energy wave before ducking under him to return the way he came. “Good luck. Please don’t go near the Glornch again.”

(Previous) Thomas knew a few Nu-Gnarglian loungewave artists but they simply weren’t as good as the classics. Not wanting to sound like a total music snob, he kept that to himself. But he enthusiastically nodded at the mention of ragtime being kept alive and well. When Theodore offered to let him download music for the trip, Thomas’ eye sparkled. He’d always wanted to be in charge of the tunes on a space road trip… But a look of concern soon grew on his face. Unlike Cas, whose lifelong ghost research prepared him to effectively function as one, Thomas didn’t even know that he could possess objects. So he sadly looked at Theodore and replied, “I… kind of can’t use a computer, sorry…”
Teddy reached for his chin before remembering his injuries and crossed his arms instead before nonchalantly saying, “Now that I think about it... Cas did have trouble with texting...”
Then he looked back up at Thomas. “I can help you after I clock out tonight.”

(Previous) Thomas grinned. He loved to talk about music. “Anything! I can find something to enjoy in every genre. Though I do have favorites.” He clasped his hands together. “Like Gnarglian loungewave… They just don’t make music like that anymore!”
...Gnarglian loungewave? Theodore tilted his head in confusion. Was that... some sort of smooth jazz?
“Well... chances are at least one retro indie still makes it...” Even if they primarily played at holes in the walls with little to no advertising or exclusively posted their music online. “You'd be surprised by how much modern ragtime there is.”
Then he said, “You can download some trip music on my computer. Just stick to safe sites.”

(Previous) “Uhhh..,” Thomas rubbed his head as he thought about it. Man, what was even the point of going back to Mati? He had no worthwhile connections, and indeed not many special attachments to anywhere. But then he realized it didn’t have to be about who he wanted to see or where he wanted to be, but rather what he wanted to do. And he wanted to listen to music! “I don’t know where, exactly, but… Maybe l can roam around the big cities, looking for different concert venues! Yeah! I-I’ll get to attend all the free concerts I want!” He smiled, filled with newfound hope and excitement.
Teddy softly smiled when Thomas enthusiastically told him about his plans. Finally, there was something there for him aside from sanctuary from the Glornists.
“Good thing we’re going to Breukelyn.” He paused for a moment before shrugging. “Well, technically New Breukelyn. But we can take an elevator.”
Then he saved the route before looking up concerts taking place during their trip. “What kind of music do you like?”

(Previous) Thomas perked up when he heard that Theodore had another brother. Eddie and Freddy, huh? That’s funny. Seemed Theodore was the odd man out with his name! When he was asked if he wanted to see anyone, Thomas rubbed his chin. There was a part of him that missed his parents… But the thought of approaching them as a ghost was daunting. He knew they were already disappointed in his lack of success, compared to his own siblings who were doctors and lawyers. They weren’t approving of him joining the Hater Empire in the first place. Dying surely wouldn’t be impressive to them. Heck, would they even care that he died? They certainly didn’t bat an eye when he was forced to tell them he was moving to a different galaxy. Thomas felt if he were to try to explain what happened to him, his parents would probably just greet him with a big fat “I told you so.” So after going down that miserable thought spiral, he sighed and sullenly replied, “No… Not really. I’m just gonna roam around, I guess.”
No? Not a single person on the entire planet? Theodore wished he could give Thomas a hug because he desperately needed one.
“Roam around where?” Hopefully Thomas would at least have some place he was attached to... Yet he wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t.
