A/N: Pre and Post Endgame, but not any real spoilers :)

Warnings: Light Smut. swears? small angst. 

You roll your eyes as the doorbell rings and look at the watch on your wrist.

Exactly 8pm.

Exactly on time.

The low buzz of the evening crowd should drown out any particular sound but it doesn’t, and you can hear heavy, booted footfalls step through the bar until they stop at the counter, taking a seat. It’s like nothing else even registers for a moment.

And then the order bell rings, and you jump, grabbing the tray of drinks and pointedly ignore the newcomer, delivering the beers to a nearby table of men with a fake smile and a friendly joke.

One of the guys flirts with you, he places a hand on your lower back, and you flinch, but reply snakily and step away before his hand can slip lower.

You move back to the bar, skirting around behind the counter and subconsciously you stay close to where you know he is, because the flirting man had invaded your space, and God forgive you if you wanted to feel safe for a moment.

“I could break his hand, you know?” His voice, deep, rough, gentle. It holds no real threat, but you know for a fact if you asked him too seriously enough, he’d have had a talk with the guy when he’d left. You shake your head and pick up a rag and a glass, beginning to clean it.

At night – the Compound is filled with haunts and broken shadows – memories trapped like fairweather ghosts in the corridors and bedrooms. When Tony closes his eyes, he sees nothing but, smoke belched sky and portals – giant sucking mouths pulsing with gold beams and there is dust in his throat.

It chokes him – all that dust – gets trapped in his nostrils and under his tongue. He can’t breathe or think or cry and he wakes up with the sheets soaked in his own cold sweat.

He dreams of you again and again – sees you stretched out in front of them with the ominous horde at your back. The long, silver blade in Thanos’s grip and you smiling at him.

It’s okay. It’s fine. It’s so so fine.

Thanos smiles at him, too.
