Sunday School
This was when we first started going to the Catholic Church - they had a bit of an "okay, now all the little kids go into the other room now" sort of schtick that wasn't called Sunday School - I forget what it was called - but existed nonetheless. I always wondered about this, actually, because I would always watch the other younger kids go but not go myself, and there wasn't any information I could find in the bulletin about which age group this was for (my sister was definitely the same age as some of these kids, but she didn't go).
I digress.
One Sunday, for whatever reason, you did have me shuffle off with the rest of the kids. I had read ahead in the missal and already knew what the day's Mass was going to be about in the big room; in the kids' room, we were read the same stories, but with like, puppets and coloring pages and shit. What matters is that I knew they were the same Bible readings - heck knows I don't recall which they were now, but they were the same.
After church, you asked me what I had learned in the kids' room, and I answered in turn: "oh, just the same stories you had in the big church." For some reason, this pissed you off. You accused me of being sarcastic, or standoffish, or going out of my way to not actually answer the question that you asked.
I truly didn't know if you knew that the kids' room got the same lessons as the big church. Had I known that your real ask was "I want you to tell me about the Bible readings you discussed so that I know you were paying attention and that you learned something," I would have answered as such. But I took the question exactly as it was - and I did not remember the books/chapters/verses to rattle off, as I had never been asked to memorize them before, so the easiest way I could reference them was to say that they were the same as you had heard.
It was a bullshitty thing to be mad about.
I don't recall ever going back to the kids' room.
