I see folks are rotating cowboys/westerns again, so here is my favorite tidbit from Dealing Despair so far.

"Explain the keepin' thing to me." Jimmy cleans his rifle, running a cloth over the rear sight with careful fingers. "We—My father and I—raised birds. Pheasants mostly, a few other stock animals on the land that would go to the owners." He glides the cloth, already worn to near shreds. It used to be a handkerchief and he'll use it till its dust. "We raise them wild, yet in cages." Tango raises an eyebrow but Jimmy wont look at him fully. He focuses on the barrel in his hand, cool to the touch. "We'd free them from their cages just to shoot them the second they taste the sky. For sport." "Sounds cruel." "It is. I hated it." "You didn't like any of it?" Jimmy scoffs, "I spent my whole childhood camping fox dens and laying snares. Other kids my age would have had friends." "You don't make a lick of sense Sheriff." Tango shakes his head. Jimmy looks at him now, at the dirt on his face and the shine to his eyes, "You don't seem like a solitary guy. Someone who could do that." Jimmy sighs, looking away again. "I had my sister," he mumbles. And it's true, Lizzie is the reason he didn't go mad in those woods. Someone to follow him around while he did his chores. Someone to talk to, to fill the gap of silence. She wasn't supposed to be near the farm, but she'd always found a reason. "So," Tango leans back into the rock, he tips his hat over his eyes to block the setting sun, "why'd you end up a sheriff then?" Jimmy shrugs, "Felt right." He rubs the cloth down the barrel. "It wasn't all much different from keeping, in some ways. No days off, taking care of a flock. I was needed in Salsola the same way I was needed on the farm." It's too truthful, but he figures it's better to get along with his new partner than it is to sit in continuous silence. He'd left England to avoid it, that sentiment followed him to the desert. "People aren't birds." Tango says from under his hat. "No they are not." Jimmy agrees. People aren't birds yet he's using his hunting rifle. One of his two. The long and lightweight Enfield that used to be his father's, not the Hawkin he uses to hunt pronghorn in the mesa. "Maybe it's me." Tango snorts, like he's said a joke. "What are you gettin' at?" Jimmy folds the cloth carefully. A small square of stained fabric, initials embroidered in the corner. "I was lawman of Salsola for one year," he says more to himself than to Tango. It draws on him now how ironic this is. Spend the year loving something, watching it teeter on its feet and learn how soar. The season ends the same way, without fail. "Spit it out." Jimmy swallows and frowns. It's not so different when lined up against each other. He wanted it to be different. He wishes it were. Tango peeks out from under his hat and Jimmy doesn't look at him. He holds his rifle in a tight grip. It's unrealistic to think he'll use it on a man, but he lets the quiet hum of the brush convince him he could. "Being sheriff wasn't supposed to end in a slaughter." He says carefully. Tango shifts, sitting up again. He doesn't speak for a long moment but when he does, his voice is cautious. "I'm sorry it did." It's not nearly enough. Jimmy needs more than an apology. He needs to stop seeing their faces when he lays in for the night. He needs to move across this desert faster. He needs to find the man that did this. When he looks at Tango now, determination set to his bones, the face he sees isn't one he would expect on a Reaper. It's fear, low and simmering. Hidden behind the tired lines of his face, etched into the seat of his mouth. Tango understands then, he really must, that Jimmy isn't playing the fool about this. "I am too."

I have no idea why but it was only a kiss by the Wilkinsons has such MOE vibes. I was listening to it today and couldn’t stop thinking about all the deleted kissing scenes (although if you replaced kiss with literally any other word it would embody both our little over thinkings)

I love music so much and how it relates to characters and story etc. (it was me who sent the burning room song ask btw I forgot to sign it) I listen to the MOE playlist all the time, love watching it change as we go (and I get nervous but you wouldn’t do that to us would you sauce????)

I wish my current music tastes fit better with the story line but I’m finding some good ones (hopefully) down the rabbit hole of Spotify

ANYWAY I think songs are my way of analysis. Just wanted to show how much I love your writing in some way other than dropping off of the face of the earth!

Crow my love!!! I'm feeling so much listening to this song. This fits so well with the orginal FWB timeline, where they were kissing all the time but it wasnt meant to mean anything. Also just a banger song.

So the MoE playlist is LONG AS HELL. like, I know its 80 songs thats actually insane and daunting. so here's the plan about that. I'm going to end up taking some songs off. I KNOW I KNOW IM SORRY. I honestly take songs off when I end up skipping them cause I've over listened or they don't attach to the story anymore.

SO. Now that we have an offical plot that we're sticking too HARD. I'm gonna try and order the playlist by chapter AND have smaller playlists for each chapter. having said this I'm already working on some of the chapter playlists in advance so I just added a ton of new songs to the main playlist ToT. For you crow, as a treat, have five new songs in a row lmao.

The playlist is gonna be a mess for a while because I need to go back and figure out what songs are for the first four chapters (zero clue gamers) we'll get there ToT. I'm so happy you like the playlist I also use music for the characters and stories and they DO aid the anaysis of the story!! I love setting vibes via music.

I have much passion for MoE today guys I wrote 14 pages (on paper, by hand) today and I think I made fantastic headway on this scene. Gripping Jimmy by his little baby head I can't believe it took one song on repeat to finally get into his head (and Jam reading chapter one and reminding me how carefree they used to feel. I'm thinking too far ahead and it was making it hard then it needed to be) so this is good!!!! yipee movement!!

It's so surreal to me. I'm so thankful to have an audience like you all, there is no one else I would rather share such a story.

I'm also so so so so so so so so so happy that southern Tango has been such a hit! I love him so much, he's such a dear thing to me and it's amazing that yall love him too. I really have no words for how grateful I am. Thank you for this ask anon, I have so many loving asks in my box right that now that I'm keeping for when I get sad.
