Open Letters to the Women of Today
Tumblr media
To the girl who keeps on breaking stereotypes
You’re wearing the crown once again, I could see that and it has been years since the last time you have worn your glory. What you are doing makes me proud. You inspire me.
It was outrageous to think that you canceled your wedding. I have not seen a girl walk away from unwritten rules. I have not seen a girl so brave to take a stand, “I am not going to marry the man my culture offers me. I am a woman of my own.” you said.
It was then I realized that you are breaking the stereotypes your world has set up. The “norms” women must follow. The unwritten rules which by then I must follow but you are a woman of freedom, you have offered yourself the actual freedom and not the kind that society has blinded you to have. You have to keep on breaking them, you are more than what society thinks. Never take off the crown please, girls like me need ladies like you.
Love,
Ruby

To the women who strive to live up to the society’s standards
We live in a society with a clear conceptualization that women have to live and are expected to compete in the world in double standards. Body frames remain a constant illustration of the ideals that women have to strive for. Women are expected to always be beautiful and skinny, maintain a feminine demeanor and succumb to men’s criticisms.
We have been socially confined to live with the ideals. However, we actually have to understand that as women of this generation, we need to free ourselves from these chains because no one will ever do it for us. You, as a woman, have to exercise the idea of individuality, you are independent. You don’t need to be in a relationship to be happy. You are allowed to make more money than men. Remember that you are more than just a woman with a body that is meant to look ‘sexy’. You have goals, you have ideas, you were born enough. You are not just the damsel in distress; you can be the hero. You have a voice, speak up! It’s finally time for you to step up and own your inner prowess. Be fearless, fight for what you believe in.  And never let the society restraint you from being you.
Love,
M xoxo

To the woman who raised me
You are the one whom I can talk to and will constantly listen to me. You are the one who will accept all of my flaws and imperfections. You are the one who will love me unconditionally even if I may not make you feel the same. You are my mother.
Growing up with someone like you makes me feel at ease. You are the person that I can rely on every time I have problems. You are always there on my side. But I know I have not thanked you enough. I have not said sorry for all the pain that I have caused you. I have never told you and made you feel how I truly love you.
But before I lose you, before I regret the things I never did for you, I will act now. I want to thank you for all the sacrifices you have done for me to be what I am right now. I want to thank you for being patient and understanding me throughout the years. I want to make you feel how much I love you and how special you are to me. I want to show you the respect and honor you truly deserve. Mom, I may not say this a lot of times, but with all my heart I am telling you that I love you so much.
Love,

To the girl who is being bullied
You are the girl I see at the cafeteria, silently sitting alone. You are the girl they call the loser, the nerd, the weirdo, and the weakling. They don’t want to be friends with you. They don’t like you.
I know sometimes you feel invisible. They only see your flaws, your strengths unnoticed. They try to bring you down. They try to hurt you. Their sharpened words are a torrent of knives all aimed at you. But I know you are strong. You will rise against it all. You wish you could be someone else. But let me tell you, each one of us is unique in our own way. You don’t have to change for them. Look at yourself in the mirror, dress the way you want to, do your hair the way you want it, not because they told you how to. Be yourself. Others may judge you because of your height, your size, your color. But the only thing that matters is how you judge yourself.
Just hold on tight in this roller coaster ride. You might want to end your life but please don’t let yourself drown on your miseries. Be strong for your family, be strong for your friends. Be strong for the people who appreciates you and most of all be strong for yourself. I know you’re tired of being invisible. Show them what you’ve got. You are a girl, a lady, a woman, with so much more to give.
Love,
Bernadette
