Art posting! I have been obsessed with doing these digital art spreads / concept art for the second book in the SET trilogy! F and I just established soooo many official names for important places. It feels surreal to truly decide on original titles for original locations! Absolutely crazy how much it can adjust/fit the vibe.

I’m immensely pleased by the color yellow right now. In all shades. My brain keeps drawing it unintentionally. My favorite color is orange but this is a close second, whenever I have a favorite color I want to wear things and eat things that are that color and paint with that color of course. Kinda silly! Simple joys.

Anyways, enjoy the pieces.

Nostia

The world of Nostia is made up of five major kingdoms which are each ruled by a different elemental deity. A century ago, there was a struggle for power that killed the god of the sky and destroyed his peoples’ homeland. Since then, the war continues to divide them except for the allied countries Regno-Marea and Terran.

Legend tells of a hero brought from another world that will end this war between gods and unite the five kingdoms.

Daniel – “Dan”/”Chosen One” 19 years old What was once an insecure teen that never felt that he belonged anywhere is now grown and has been trained to be the “chosen one” that has been prophesied to unite the lands of Nostia. Since the sudden death of his only friend years ago he has become more reliant and easily manipulated by Mariana as he sees her as a pseudo mother figure not the person who killed Akira. Instead, he was told that it was an enemy from the Ashkaar resistance which made Dan focused on revenge while leading her troops.

Akira – “The Lich” Died 5 years ago (same age as Daniel) Akira was the childhood best friend of Daniel that was accidentally summoned when he was. He was murdered 5 years ago for getting too close to figuring out the truth behind Mariana’s pretty facade. Since then, he has been on a grueling journey to return his soul to his body so he can warn his best friend Dan of her treachery. To accomplish this goal, he first had to find a community of outsiders that understand magic that is considered evil for not being sourced directly from one of the known gods.

Mariana- “Queen of Regno-Merea”/ “Leviathan” Ancient (appears mid 30s) Ruler and creator of the kingdom of Regno-Marea and its inhabitants of fishlike people that revere her as the true god of the realms. To those under her influence like Dan she is a beautiful and compassionate goddess that wants an end to the war and bring unity to the realm of Nostia. In truth she is a master of manipulation and control and the one who started the war among the gods in the first place by consuming power that has since corrupted her turning her into what is only referred to as “the Leviathan” which she has been trying to keep hidden with her carefully crafted persona.

Tempeste- “Princess of Regno-Merea” 100 years old (maturity of a young adult) The daughter of Queen Mariana that has inherited power of the storm from her deceased father who was the god of the sky and the winged Aves people. Wanting to prove herself to her mother, she is obedient despite her harsh treatment that veers abusive when Mariana feels like she isn’t being respected. With the arrival of Dan her mother tasks her with keeping a close an eye on him by matchmaking the two together in hopes of them producing powerful children. However, there is a streak of rebellion in Tempeste that she tries to keep from her mother’s watchful eye that want to care for those who depended on her father that lost their homeland when he was killed in battle.

Character Design final for a story I've been wanting to turn into a graphic novel since high school. I want to develop this better now in hopes that I will actually be able to consistently work on this now that I have been learning how to create quicker and more effectively. A big thing that I've been having to teach myself to actually finish projects to that I can show them to others even if it's not "perfect". I want to be more consistent with posting things with this blog.

Do kimono have inner pockets? I always remember seeing actors in movies stuffing things into their kimono so I’m wondering if they have inner pockets?

Stuffing things into your kimono is part of the fun of wearing one :D

Kimono don't have pockets in the Western sense of the word, but thanks to their tailoring they do have places one can stash trinkets. Main ones are:

Tamoto 袂, the pocket part of a kimono sleeve. Back of women's ones are open (but sleeves are longer and weight of item is often enought to keep them in place). Men's ones are sewn shut and so perfect to act as pockets.

Futokoro is the “pocket” created between the kimono left fold and the obi (when worn women style). Men also tuck things at a similar place near their obi but I don't know if that is called the same.

if you wear one, sarashi (long bleached cotton cloth) was used by both sexes as a kind of binding undergarment, and could be used to hold items (it is a famous cliché in yakuza movie to menacingly have a blade tucked into their belly sarashi).

You can also tuck things into your obi, nowadays this is especially true for fans. Sensu are tucked up front, uchiwa in the back

Besides carrying things simply in small woven baskets or furoshiki (fabric squares), people also used many kinds bags and pouches, you can check this past note (and see an irl tamato otoshi in this note).
