The Japanese word for a temple is a Tera. It is typically an ancient place of great beauty that is stooped in traditional and a place people bow down to worship.

Inspired by the stunning Japanese architectural design and its culture, we have designed and created the TERA dice, a beautiful 7-layer spinner top dice. Each layer of the Tera dice is designed with a special Japanese character symbol and pattern. Making this completely unique and a true work of art.

This kickstarter very nearly took my breath away; it’s a 7-piece dice set from d2 to d20 (no percentile) that combines into a Japanese temple when stacked. I don’t think this one will be going into my dice bag; instead, it’ll be desk art. The delicate rose gold Kickstarter exclusive coloration is what totally sold me, I’m such a sucker for pink ♥

Purification of some crude Nile Red. 

Nile Red is a quite interesting, solvatochromic and highly fluorescent dye. The raw product was contaminated with a few impurities, but a fast purification, by simple filtering the mixture through a short column helped a lot and ended up with a +95% pure product.

At first I concentrated the product from a dilute solution (that orange fluorescent stuff at the to of the column) on the column. It’s interesting to see, that it has a different fluorescence in solution (orange) and while it’s absorbed on the solid phase (pink, highly fluorescent).

After all the product was on the solid phase, I added another solvent and washed down the pure, HIGHLY FLUORESCENT product. Everything else, what was mainly products of side reactions, stuck at the top of the column as seen over here:
