by far the strangest part of the British government deciding to enact a sword hunt is that the policy they've put together is very clear about only banning "ninja swords" and "zombie-style knives." you're allowed to have a sword for fencing, or a machete for farm and garden work, or a zweihander for historical re-enactment purposes, but if you have a wakizashi your ass is fucking GRASS

I feel like Seth is the kinda guy who says he doesn't like/isn't interested in cats, and then 5 seconds later he's snuggling up with them.
Even shy cats who run away from any houseguests will cozy up to him. Like recognises like
Seth visiting Scout’s place for the first time. There is an armchair in their living room with a napping blanket draped over the cushion. Scout tells him he can take a seat anywhere, just not that chair. “That’s the cat’s chair.”
Seth waits about four seconds for Scout to say they’re just kidding. They do not.
Minutes later, he watched from the couch as the aforementioned cat strolls into the room and hops up to make itself nice and comfy on the armchair. A distinguished little loaf.

Thinking about Auron and domesticity
Because, like, Rook's been to his apartment, but I imagine that's necessarily an infrequent thing. There'd be too much risk of exposure if they left each other's place every morning. So it's just the ocassional night together, stolen weekends, sneaking off together after a 'late shift' at work, one of them slinking back home before dawn...
But it's at least common enough to be prepared for. And I feel like it'd just melt Auron all the more to see Rook's toothbrush next to his, a spare change of their clothes in the closet next to his, their favoured brand of coffee in his pantry.... those little slices of domesticity, all the more precious for how rare they are.
It's probably novel for him as well, since the last time he shared space with anyone was when he still lived with Trish and his Mom and Faust. Not all happy memories, sure, but bittersweet ones at least.
And, not that all the, uh, 'extracurricular activity' in the Escape series isn't *chef's kiss*. But does anyone else think that the memory of that night he'd look back on most fondly is sitting around the kitchen table eating cereal with Rook? That, of all of it, that was his happiest moment?
One moment of pure happiness and contentment, probably the first in forever, just in time for Withered Finn to bring it all crashing down hahaHAHAAHAAAAAAAAA
As an aside, how do you imagine Auron and Rook spent the day after the Escape finale? I've always imagine they spent it just having a lazy day in, nothing more on the agenda than enjoying each other's company. Reading and watching tv and ordering out and cuddling (and maybe some slow and sweet 'extra curriculurs' once Auron's recovered a bit). Given how much Auron puts on himself, I imagine giving himself grace to just relax and do nothing, especially with someone he cares so much about is also a rare luxury. But it probably depends a lot on what Rook wants to do, and that's going to be different for everyone.
#yuurivoice#yuurivoice auron#i hope they end up cohabiting for a bit during the evalas timeline#that auron's 'escape' he describes in the 1st ep was a place they lived together#for them to find each other only to immediately snatched away would be deliciously tragic and dramatic#but it would also be very sweet if they got to just be happy together for a bit

My uncle is autistic so he has sensory sensitivities, and he's largely nonverbal so he can't tell you what those sensitivities Are, so what he does is, if you give him a shirt that is a bad texture, he goes and gets his scissors and he cuts it into tiny little pieces so no one can ever ask him to wear it ever again, and the thing is is that he is so totally right

As I’m dipping my toes into the military history I’m getting even further perspective on just how weird Rome was.
Like I knew they were weird. I’ve been into Roman history for a long time. I’ve just never looked at the military side of it much in detail. I’m more interested in domestic and political stuff.
Like I knew for sure that Rome was a very militaristic society. Almost all citizen able bodied men served in the army at some point in their lives. They liked being aggressive. This is known.
What I didn’t know is their policy on surrender. Which is that you (not Rome) will surrender.

I really enjoy how Pathologic adds these elements of mundaneness to the magical elements of its worldbuilding.
A beautiful, terrifying, gravity defying structure is built specifically to house the soul of an incredibly influential member of the community. By all accounts the Polyhedron should be this entirely otherworldly thing.
But this is a town full of curious children with nothing better to do, so they go there to play!
The polyhedron isn’t an otherworldly closed off temple, a place of only the supernatural. It became the most natural thing in this circumstance, a clubhouse, a play structure.
Of course the children have their own kind of reverence for it. But I just like how it’s connected to both the mundane and magical. The perfect symbol of the fact that miracles exist in this world, as ordinarily as the sun rising, miracles spring from this world, and people live alongside them.
