Since its pride month, let’s remember that cringe culture is inherently rooted in homophobia and transphobia since a big aspect of cringe culture is clowning on queer and trans people for giving established characters queer and trans headcanons. It’s not cringe for marginalized people to give a beloved character aspects of their own identity as a means of self expression, comfort, and belonging in a media landscape and society at large that still has ways to go in terms of quality marginalized group representation in mainstream and niche media.
