it's like super sad when people fight tooth and nail defending/understanding the first three gallaghers and then just dismiss the other three. yes, fiona lip and ian had minimal guidance compared to debbie, carl and liam, but just because you have older siblings that take care of you, that doesn't erase the fact that your parents abandoned you and are never around. fiona could never replace monica, lip could never replace frank

a parent is supposed to stay with you until they end up dying. that is not fiona and that is not lip. lip was always framed to "get out of the hood eventually" so their time with him felt like it was counting down. when debbie is stalking jimmy and interrogating him, she says "i need [fiona] in the game for at least a few more years" so she KNOWS her sister won't always be able to take care of her. which, yes, fiona shouldn't be expected to, but also, that's debbie's primary caretaker. you know how messed up it is that even at a young age like that, debbie already knew the foundation of her life was very shaky and wouldn't always be able to hold her up?

which is why i find her and carls detachment in the beginning of the fourth season super understandable. in season 3, we saw carl and frank have a bonding moment (stealing from carls old foster parents) and that one day together leads carl to take a bus in the snow all the way to the hospital just to shave franks head, and then do everything he can to save frank and his liver. all it took was something little for carl to become devoted to frank (even if only for a season) he's still a kid, and he probably wants his dad so bad he's willing to give fiona the silent treatment because of him

debbie didnt have a bonding day with frank. she has no idea where ian is, lip is at college, fiona is always with mike, and she had already told sheila to find friends her own age. this probably feels like their family is finally going separate ways, so instead of clinging to a family member, she looks outward and spends a scary amount of time at the arcade. holly and matty. she goes to mandy for advice because she wants to feel wanted, because her house is empty and her parents are flakes. because everyone is doing their own thing with their own life, and for fiona to tell debbie "its okay to just be a kid" probably feels like a slap in the face, because debbie is being left behind again and she's not going to just stay in her room with coloring books while everyone else moves on

obviously explanation doesnt excuse the behavior of moody kids, but its important to remember that thats exactly what they were in the early seasons: kids. kids going through really big and scary situations

and, im gonna say it again, JUST BECAUSE YOUR OLDER SIBLINGS RAISED YOU, IT DOESNT ERASE THE FACT THAT YOUR PARENTS HAVE ABANDONED YOU

(and liam, liam with a dead monica and a dead frank and an absent fiona and a lip who didnt even notice that liam thought he was going to be homeless. "liam is the only gallagher whos going to be sooo healthy and successful!!" yeah maybe later on, but the road to get there is going to be rocky asf. that boy is gonna be another ian with avoidant attachment)

been thinking a lot about when lip came back from college and had sex with mandy and mandy asked him for money for plan b

and he told her to just see what would happen

because he desperately wanted a reason to not have to go back to college and to be validated in quitting

but like

what about her say in this?? what if she didnt want that, lip?? what a self-centered fuck

and she very likely did not have the money for this and probably had to spend a few weeks drowning in self-loathing and/or anxiety around not knowing if she could or could not be pregnant; even if she did want to be with lip, who was to say that he would even stay with her after she had the kid; they weren't in a relationship at the time. she didnt have any of that reassurance.

anyway, she suffered and it didnt even cross his mind, and i think that sums up their relationship.

just remembered that whole part about kev and v's daughters being racist to the immigrant kids they fostered was...weird

like i see the issue they tried to "address" but all they did was play it up for laughs in the weirdest way possible

but thats what they usually do with any issue regarding latin folks so really what did i expect

theres so much to plan for my shameless fic because i wanna fix so much stuff; and im still stuck figuring out what to do with svet in it

like do i want to fix the relationship she had with kev and v because i really like the poly thing they had going on

or do i wanna keep it problematic and have her leave it, but with the caveat of having my ocs calling kev and v out for their bullshit and having them have to take accountability???

i feel like the second option gives more room for character growth; but then i have to figure out where i want svet to end up

ranting about a thing i saw

a few nights ago i had to call the cops cause some guy was beating the shit out of another guy with a metal pipe/bat right in front of my bulding

the guy getting beat was literally begging him to stop and he kept going; and you wanna know the reason why he was beating him?? because the guy had been smoking weed in his building!!

and he has chased him down from a different block too; so he went out of his way to chase him down to keep beating on him

and then he was like oh im not gonna get in trouble i do this all the time i know the cops i have a government building

like first of all thats not how that works re: government-owned buildings

second of all, you're a black man, no cops are your friends even if the person you're beating is another minority

but anyway, when the cops came (they were actually pretty fast for once), the guy ran away--like i thought you weren't gonna get in trouble, bro??? so why you running??? anyway, i shouted after him to let him know that he's a pussy ass bitch

but on top of all that the useless ass cops ignored us when we told them which way the guy ran; instead they chased after the guy that was getting beat up; fuck me, man

and the worst part was that it was like 3 cars of cops; like why would you ALL go in the same direction you brainless fucks??

the thumb-looking sergeant came after and dead apologized to us cause he was was like yeah that was fucking dumb

the guy who had been getting beat up thanked us; but he refused to tell the cops what the building he was smoking in was; and, man, i hate that no snitching hood mentality; i hate that it applies generally

like you shouldn't snitch on your friends; but that doesn't mean don't snitch on no name motherfuckers; fuck them; maybe don't be a bitch and assault someone for dumbass reasons
