Somehow.. The question managed to take him by surprise, despite the few comments of a similar nature he had gotten since salvaging another pair of headphones he could tolerate.

Or maybe the surprise really came from seeing a face that hasn't been around, from where he came from.

"Right now.. I've just been looking. I can't find my music. What I used to listen to."

He was so sad about that, fumbling with his phone for a second.

"This one is called.. Little Dark Age. It's alright.. Uh. Do you like music too?"

THE starter call post

{ As it states, so it shall be. This is just gonna be the masterlist/one 'n done starter call post of mine. For funsies! And also? I dunno. If this blog takes off and people like rping with me, it'd be cool to see the numbers go up as time goes on.

SO... Here's how this is gonna work.

☔️ Give me a bit of patience! I'm working on both a game script and a fanfic (that's almost to 100k words I'm v interested to see where I'll be when I reblog this in the future) and those two things take up most my writing time.

《Canon vs. AU differences》

This is just a small little thing that I'll be attaching to the about page, for a lil more ease of access in understanding the differences between canon Makoto and what my AU involves. :)c Will add more when I think of it.

☔️ Canon: Apathetic, dissociative, good ol ennui

AU: Not much of this has changed- if anything as of where things are, it's actually worse. His movements seem stiff, and he moves.. Almost like a puppet. It's not SUPER noticeable, but there's definitely something off about him. However, personality-wise, he's a bit softer. Some edges have been sanded down, whereas others remain just as sharp. They'll fight if they have to, but he'd much rather just talk over a coffee.

☔️ Canon: Persona is Orpheus, until it's Messiah.

AU: As the dark hour was sealed and still remains so- and Makoto knows about the metaverse/shadow world but not much more than that- as it stands, they don't feel their persona. It really could be anything.

However, Makoto has an undeniable pull on those who do have them. This shows itself as a strong need to want to protect him, keep him safe. He can communicate with them through the barriers between metaverse/shadow world as well. For rping, this doesn't have to be a thing if it's too close to god-modding for anyone. It's just how it is in my fic, mostly. A neat lil plot point that could be utilized.

☔️ Canon: Makoto is human.

AU: This is probably the biggest difference between the AU and canon. The curse that manifested itself turned every persona user into something inhuman. Morgana is a nekomata, Yusuke is a kitsune, etc.. Makoto was also affected, though in a much different way than the others. He has a very tight knit glamour, so much so that he may as well be human, but his reflection to anyone that's been to any of the three persona realms is monstrous. Always changing, never the same. The only thing that remains consistent is the pure black shadow.

Unglamoured appearance is unknown, and will remain so for this blog.

☔️ Canon: Makoto sealed Nyx, and sacrificed himself in the process.

AU: This hasn't changed, and I wouldn't want it to. In this AU, Makoto is still the seal- he's still door-kun. However, some part of him was pulled back to 'life'. There's something for him to do, and while the ocean and death eternal still call to him, (especially on full moons) he has something else calling to him even louder. One thing can be certain, whoever or whatever interrupted his peaceful sleep will pay dearly for it.

☔️ Canon: Ryoji.

So then, what about Ryoji? Death can't die, it was stated in the game. At the end of Reload, Makoto even gets a text from what could only be him. Is he still around in this AU? Well.. Death plays a very big part in this story, but in a different way than you'd think. Nobody can catch a break, and that includes him. Whether he's sealed together with Nyx, or out and about like Makoto is another story- and a big mystery.

☔️ Canon: Makoto is of the Fool arcana, followed by the Universe.

AU: This hasn't changed either. In fact, because of it, Makoto can really be.. Anywhere, any time. He has a very hard time accidentally ending up somewhere he shouldn't be. However, because he's considerably weakened due to only a shard of himself existing, that's about the extent he can do. His power grows the longer he is awake, but where this blog is settled, it really won't be anything significant.

Skip. Skip.. Skip.

The light of his phone flashed between a myriad of colors with each tap of his thumb on the skip button, headphones joining the illumination with their own soft glow. It usually relaxed him, helped him stay calm in disparate situations- which could otherwise be summed up as most days he had been back.

Tonight was different, but it hadn't been the first time. No music sounded good, nothing could ease the static in his mind. It was nights like these where the water called to him, and so he could only listen no matter how much he struggled.

The ocean wind would have chilled him to his very bones, and the call would have been way too strong, so he had settled for a lake- sitting on a bigger rock that jutted out of the water and lay flat. Above him and his getaway, a full moon provided enough light for even the most unadjusted eyes.

A normal pale. No green interspersed. His protection held strong, and it would continue to do so. Another song was skipped. Some sort of jazz interspersed with pianos began to play next. It wasn't terrible. He decided to let it be for a little longer than the rest.

Closing his eyes, he tried to let the music overtake him.. A trumpet screamed, crescendoed with the rising static of the moonlight.

For a second, he felt free.

The trumpet eased off though, and a saxophone took its place, singing a haunting melody. His eyes snapped open, as shades of green intruded behind his eyelids and dripped into his thoughts.

The song was immediately skipped amongst panic and heavy breaths.

'What could you possibly be doing that's so important?'

Makoto stared at the text on his phone. Smart phone.. That's what it was called. Truth be told, he missed his old one. The way he could shut it with ease felt final, less in the moment- no sense of urgency. These new phones, he couldn't do that. Sure, he could push the button to turn off the screen, but it really wasn't the same.

The text stared him in the face, replaced by his own as the screen dimmed, the dull glow quickly shrouded in darkness- a contrast caused by the bright lights of the city. He looked up at them, and the way they somehow swallowed darkness and light.

The answer to the text would get philosophical, if he bothered to take the time. What couldn't be so important? Cloudy eyes shifted, staring as faces unrecognizeable walked by. Each one of them was important. Every bug drawn into the light, every person just as drawn, all were here for their own important reasons.

He could only muster up a soft sigh, phone dropped back in his pocket, the night still young.

Need he say more? Maybe.. He wouldn't though, at least unprompted. The night air sung with the signs of a busy city, as he sat on a bench- his bench. The one he finds himself coming back to, overlooking a fountain. It felt familiar.

Tonight, he decided to treat himself to a frozen coffee. With.. A cookie straw. Unpractical, but something new to him.
