having religious trauma from the most boring of churches is such a unique experience. stained glass and high ceilings dont mean anything. but dingy basements and hotel bibles mean everything. my religious trauma (and i would assume a lot of others) isnt as pure as what is shown. its gross basements, hand-me-down bibles, wooden chairs that look like theyre at least 50 years old, vhs tapes and big box tvs, ugly carpet, and "god bless you" instead of i love you.

Random thought but everything that Neil Gaiman “allegedly” did is scarier than most of the things he wrote.

He pretended to stand up for women while victimizing women and then he trafficked his child’s nanny. The more details you learn the more like a psychopath he sounds. He sexually assaulted a woman in his 4 year old son’s bed, while she was reading the son a story. Then after the allegations go public, he goes radio silent and hires a pr company to help suppress the story. Sure he wrote one letter denying any crimes but I don’t see him running his mouth on tumbler anymore.

Even in his Sandman story about an author raping a muse for book inspiration is more tame than what Gaiman did. Since Gaiman victimized multiple women both sexually, verbally, and with physical violence. Then he would try to silence at least one woman with an NDA. So even after they escaped they felt like they couldn’t get any justice or talk to others about what happened for support.

And in this letter he lays out in detail how the soul you have lashed to the golden calf of Trump and Christian Nationalism has been led so far astray into the domain of Mammon that you are directly responsible for atrocities condemned BY THE HIGHEST OFFICE OF THE CHURCH. Then he calls you out directly to rebuke you by quoting the theological concept you MISQUOTED AND MISUSED from St Augustine and CORRECTING YOUR BAD INTERPRETATION HIMSELF before ending with an invocation of La Virgen Morena, Our Lady of Guadalupe, to protect those who are being harmed by the horrible actions of you and the fascist administration you serve.

And then imagine having the nerve to carry on with hate in your heart and the arrogance of Jonah anyway.

May God have mercy on JD Vance but more importantly may God have mercy on the millions of people he and our government are harming.
