Hi!  My name’s Krystal

I started this blog somewhere around 10 years ago, but I abadoned it around 2017.  With the way social media is shifting, I decided that Tumblr might be worth giving another try.  I backed up my old posts, for my personal keeping, but have purged them all for a fresh start.  To be honest, a lot of that content doesn’t accurately reflect me anymore, and I’d like to start anew.   Don’t worry though, I’ll be re-posting a back-log of old photos, because it’s always fun to revisit. For those who haven’t found there way here from one of my other accounts, Hi!  My name is Krystal, but the internet/cosplay world knows me as Sumikins, or just plain Sumi.  I’ve been cosplaying since 2002 (twenty years!), and competing in cosplay contests since 2007.  I’ve competed and judged competitions all across the United States and abroad, even representing the USA in three international cosplay competitions:  World Cosplay Summit 2010, CICAF/CCSS 2017, and C4 2019 (the latter two of which my cos-partner and I placed second overall at international finals).  I also dabble in cosplay photography, and as of 2019 I am the cosplay contest coordinator for SakuraCon in Seattle, Washington.    I’m primarily a sewist with specialty in stage presentation, but I dabble in all sort of low-tech methods of jewelry-making, armor work, and wig-styling.   At 37-years-old my body can’t handle as much as it used to (no more all-nighters or 5-costumes-per-con), so these days I limit my projects to fewer things.  I chose designs I am passionate about, with a focus on competitions and less on casual-wear costumes.  If I’m not competing or judgings, you will usually catch me in civvies taking pictures, or working as staff.
