♫ Middle Kids - Dramamine
I used to be the kid who never wanted to be seen Let people jump all over me, the human trampoline but I got the feeling, I'm stronger on the other side, hey Does that sound okay to you? Sometimes I wanna say to you You are the only reason I believe in anything
✰ 𝐜𝐰: alcohol mention, hints at suggestive topics in pretty much all conversations (this is what you get for freak x freak romance)

Y/N has been hosting the night market fundraiser for the third year in a row and she's getting more and more confident but will still hide when the local press wants to interview her in person
all self-discipline faltered the moment Y/N laid eyes on Osamu and they both flirted shamelessly in front of all visitors (no food safety rules were broken until they got home)
another tiny maneater mention! turns out Suna is just as obsessed as i am
no cage fight in this chapter, i'm so sorry. the chapter title was just clickbait. i would have loved to see it happen too though
there's still a few chapters left so who knows. Osamu, Oikawa and Omi might end up in one. there is still hope
Osamu: (exists) Oikawa & Omi: i need this man to perish
Iwaizumi tried changing the Seijoh 5 group chat many times but gave up eventually and accepted his fate of being the group's dreamboat
if Y/N hadn't met Osamu, Iwaizumi was thinking about becoming matchmaker for her because he did NOT approve of any of her partners in the past lmao
Soft Launch has always been about bonds to me, so this chapter was dedicated to all the beautiful friendships that exist along with what Osamu & Y/N have <3

𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓'𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄.ᐟ
what happens when you don't use their pet name to call them?
⟡ content: zayne/sylus/xavier/rafayel x gn!reader; more dialogue heavy; silly and cute
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
ZAYNE ⟡
“Can you help me put this on, Zayne?”
From the reflection in the mirror, you tried not to react at the twist in his brow and the momentary confusion in his eyes. Wordlessly, he moved behind you, fingers taking the necklace out of your hand. With his gaze focused on the task before him, you could see him open his mouth, hesitating to speak.
“Did I do something wrong?” he questioned.
Zayne’s deft hands carefully laid the chain around your neck, centering the pendent between your collarbones.
You plastered on your most innocent expression, despite the twinge of guilt you felt at his question.
“Hm? Why do you ask?”
Swiftly, he clasped the ends of the chain together. His eyes flicked towards yours in the mirror.
“You’re calling me by my first name. I thought pet names were an important step in a relationship for you.”
You nodded. “Yes, Zayne, I do think it’s an important step.”
His eyes narrowed at your continual uncharacteristic responses.
Folding his arms, he mused aloud. “It took you some time to drop the title ‘doctor’ for me and to just use my name. After we became official, you were quick to call me ‘love’.”
You fiddled with your necklace, trying to, impossibly, force away the heat from your face.
“So, either I did something to make you upset, or”—he leaned in close to you, the side of his face almost touching yours—“you’re playing a trick on me.”
You gave a mock frown. He cocked his head to the side, awaiting your response.
“Okay, okay, it was a prank.” Sighing, you surrendered to his deductions. “I wanted to see how you’d react, but you saw right through me,” you mumbled.
His lips quirked. “I’ve known you for long enough to figure these things out.”
Wanting to wipe off the amused look he had on his face, you quickly planted a kiss on his cheek. His face turned into surprise. He chuckled, shaking his head at your triumphant smile.
“Thank you for helping me, my love."
SYLUS ⟡
“Sylus, could you play that new record you bought?”
You called from the sofa. Standing by the record player, he turned to face you. The offence on his face was unmistakable as he placed his hands on his hips.
“Sylus?” he scoffed. “We both know that’s not what you call me.”
Your brows furrowed, feigning confusion. “What are you talking about? Isn’t that your name?”
“Sweetie,” he levelled a look of scepticism at you, “that hasn’t been my name for the past month we’ve been together.”
“I still don’t know what you mean, Sylus.”
He paused. Gears turned in his head trying to unpack what was happening, much like he would do when reading the truthfulness of a dealer during a bargain.
“Y/N.”
You’ve never heard your own name being said in such a serious manner. Perhaps you got a taste of your own medicine.
“I’m not particularly fond of lose-lose situations.” The softness in his tone made you feel weak. “You can tell me if I’ve done something to annoy you. I won’t be angry.”
“Not at all!” you quickly blurted out. Unable to hide it any longer, you confessed. “You haven’t done anything to annoy me. I was just trying to pull a small prank.”
All the tension visibly released from his body. A relieved sigh escaped him. “You really do play some dangerous games, kitten.”
Playfulness returned to his voice. “Now then, how will you correct your mistake?”
“Honey,” you drawled out each syllable, making it sound as syrupy as the nickname itself, “could you play that new record you bought now?”
Sylus couldn’t help but laugh at your exaggeration. “Why of course.”
XAVIER ⟡
“Xavier, do you want to try this?”
Subtly glancing at his reaction from the kitchen, you saw his face immediately fall into a pout. The look was fatal, and it took all the willpower you had not to drop the ruse right then and there.
“That’s not my name,” he answered.
“What do you mean?” you chuckled, continuing to put icing on the sugar cookies you baked. “Of course it is!”
“No, it’s not,” he insisted.
Placing his book down, he walked to stand at your side by the counter. You avoided his eye contact, pretending that nothing was amiss.
Resting a hand under his chin, he began to think. “You usually call me bunny, sweetheart, sunshine, or darling.”
Your jaw dropped in amused shock. “You remember all the names I’ve called you?”
His mouth twitches. “There are some more, but… they might be a bit embarrassing to say aloud right now.”
That was enough to make you look at him with wide eyes.
“Xavier!” Your face turned pink as you slapped his shoulder. There was no force behind the hit, but enough to convey your embarrassment.
“You did it again. You used the wrong name.” He stuck his bottom lip out.
You gently poked at his cheek, trying to lift the corner of his lip upwards. “Come on, don’t be sad darling.”
Immediately, he brightened before you.
“It was just a joke I saw couples do online. I wanted to see how you’d react.”
He nodded thoughtfully. “And was my reaction satisfactory?”
“I think it was,” you smiled at him, "but it’s a shame I didn’t film it, it would’ve made for a good Moments post.”
He shook his head. “But, the nicknames we use are only for us.”
The finished cookie in your hand had a bite suddenly taken from it as Xavier leaned down to have a taste.
“I don’t want anyone else to know.”
RAFAYEL ⟡
“Are you ready to go yet, Rafayel?”
He continued to hum to himself, completely ignoring you. You folded your arms as you watched him busy himself with something trivial. He flung open a random cupboard and inspected what appeared to be an assortment of spare art supplies.
“Rafayel,” you called again.
He then turned his attention to the fishbowl in the centre of the room, where a small orange fish darted around.
“Reddie, do you hear something?” he asked, gazing so earnestly into the bowl. This fish paused its movement and stared back at his owner.
“Rafayel~” you sang his name aloud this time, extending the last syllable.
He gasped, apparently receiving some confirmation from Reddie.
“You hear something too? Thank god. I was thinking there must be something wrong with my ears.”
Surveying the room around him, Rafayel intentionally looked past you standing barely a few metres from him, tapping your foot against the wooden floorboards of his studio.
“It sounds like”—he continued—“some kind of voice. Someone familiar to me, but I can’t make out who it is.”
“Rafayel!” you shouted his name between fits of laughter. Only he could respond to your jokes with his own dramatics.
He sucked in a breath in puzzlement. “I wonder who this person is calling out to.”
“Baby,” you finally conceded, “I’m talking to you!”
It seemed like he couldn’t keep up the act either, as he started laughing with you.
“Took you long enough,” he huffed, moving towards you and linking your arm with his. “Otherwise, Reddie and I would have been searching for this phantom voice for the rest of the day.”

girl language!
synopsis: how the lads men react to girl language! the girlies that get it, get it. characters: xavier, zayne, rafayel, sylus, caleb x f!mc warning/s: zayne, caleb and xavier’s contains food note/s: this was a shower thought lmfao. the girl language used is highlighted also omg it's my first ot5 fic yay!
xavier:
you and xavier just got out from reporting at the hunter’s association. it was late and there were barely any restaurants open. but you didn’t want to cook and god forbid you let xavier cook.
to say that you were ecstatic to see a new food truck just at the end of the street. it was opened until late night and you and xavier browsed at the menu beside the truck.
“i don’t know what to get…” you say as you scanned the menu thrice now but xavier didn’t look as bothered as you. you knew that your boyfriend’s taste in food was simple. get the most basic flavor there is, if there’s a meat or hotpot option, it would be that.
“the meat overload looks really good.” xavier suggests. you sighed. “well i already know you’re getting that so i wanna get something else! so we can try two different things.” you explain to him before you sighed, settling on the most adventurous looking food option.
“okay. i made up my mind.” you say as you pointed at the image of the menu you chose. xavier nods as he places the order, grabbing two different drinks as well.
the food comes out and you and xavier find a nearby table at the park to eat your dinner. you opened yours and crinkle your nose as a response. you did not expect it to look like that.
you looked over to xavier’s meal and see that it looked waaay better than yours. xavier takes a bite and you do the same, only to realize that the option you chose was not to your tastes as it had one of the ingredients you couldn’t stand.
“xavi…” “hm?” “yours looks really good. could i try some?” xavier nods as he pushes the takeout box towards you.
you take one bite before the regret shows on your face. you should’ve chosen what xavier chose. fuck being adventurous.
xavier chuckles at the look on your face.
“i take it that you dislike yours?”
you pout. “is it that obvious?”
without another word, xavier swaps your boxes. “have you tried the drinks?” he asked. you shook your head before taking a sip of xavier’s before yours.
“you’re cute.” xavier lets out a small laugh as he plucks out your drink.
“are you sure it’s okay?” you sheepishly asked.
“yeah. enjoy the food, angel.” xavier assures you before he digs into your adventurous meal.
you smiled as you dug in, tastebuds satisfied with the flavor as the two of you enjoyed your dinner.
safe to say you stayed away from adventurous options for a while, your palette wasn’t designed for it.
zayne:
the restaurant that zayne took you to for your anniversary dinner exceeded your expectations. the food was wonderful and the ambience of the place was pleasant.
“that was really nice, zayne.” you say as you walk outside the restaurant, hand-in-hand.
“i’m glad.” zayne smiles as you swing your intertwined hands. the two of you walked around, basking in the cold air that the night provided.
the two of you talked in idle conversations, the busy city lights providing light at the otherwise darkened night sky.
you stopped in front of a bakery, eyes landing on a very interesting looking macaron, you tugged at zayne’s hand before pointing at the sweets display.
“should we get dessert?” you beamed, knowing that your sweet-toothed fiance would never say no to you. if you had a tail, it would’ve been wagging in anticipation
“i’m fine.” he declines. the tail slumps down. “but i’ll accompany you.” he says as he leads the way towards the patisserie’s door. it’s not the same.
you pout, tugging at zayne once more towards the opposite direction.
“ah, nevermind then!” you say as you attempt to pull zayne away from the door. zayne’s brows furrow at your sudden shift.
“but i thought you wanted dessert?” zayne asks, stopping in his tracks, forcing you to stop with him.
you turned to look at him, sheepish.
“yeah, well i don’t wanna be the only one getting something.” you explain. “it’s fine, love!” you say as you try tugging him to move again.
zayne doesn’t budge as he sighs.
“my love, you can get dessert if you’d like. i won’t stop you.” he encourages you. you shook your head as your voice pitches up to a whine.
“yeah well i don’t want to if you’re not getting anything!”
zayne could only huff quietly, an amused smile gracing his features as he pulled you toward the door.
“you know what, fine.” zayne finally concedes. “let’s get something to share.”
it was as if the light suddenly returned to your eyes as you small yay!, arm wrapping around zayne’s as the two of you entered and walked over to the counter.
“good evening!” the cashier welcomes you warmly.
“good evening.” zayne greets before he takes a quick look at the assortment of desserts.
“could we please get one caramel custard, one seasalt eisbock roll, one taro mille crepe and…” he trails off, taking one quick look at you before concluding. “an assortment of your best seller macarons to go.” the cashier nods, smiling. “will that be all?” zayne looks at you for confirmation. you give him a shocked nod— which he willfully ignores. “yes, thank you.” he gives his card before you could even think about paying and moves you to the side as you wait for your sweets.
“i thought you didn’t want any dessert?” you asked your fiance. zayne looks at you with a small innocent smile. “it’s for us to share.” he clarifies.
“zayne… i just wanted a macaron.”
“we do have that.”
“i wanted just that.”
“my love, are you complaining?”
“...no.”
sylus:
this was the first time that you took sylus to linkon’s mall. well technically, you didn’t invite him. you initially planned on running some errands only to find sylus surprising you at your doorstep. having no way to evade your boyfriend, you begrudgingly invite him to your little solo date.
“oh this is so cute.” you say as you inspect the sweater before placing the hanger back and moving on.
sylus cocks a brow but doesn’t say anything as he follows your tracks. he looks at you as you squealed at another top, placing it on top of your clothes and inspecting how it looked on you before your smile drops and you put it back as if nothing happened.
sylus was now confused. were you broke? why didn’t you tell him? should he open the topic up? he’s given you his black card numerous times so why are you still shy on spending?
“sylus, you coming?” your voice interrupts his trance and he nods as he takes your outstretched hand, letting himself be pulled by you as you dragged him inside another store.
the store was filled with an assortment of plushies, themed mugs, blind boxes. the interior was colorful as well and it was easy to get lost in it, which to sylus’detriment, you were no exception as you let go of his hand and grabbed a plushie off the shelf, squishing it in your hands.
sylus looks around the store, taking note of his surroundings before his eyes stop at the stack of baskets beside the cash register.
without notifying you, he plucks out a basket and silently follows your tracks.
you touched the little crow keychain? in the basket. your eyes looked at the plushie too long? in the basket. the lipstick you swatched complimented your skin? in the basket.
by the time you noticed, sylus’ basket was almost full.
“sylus, what is this?” you asked, eyeing the basket before your eyes widened in realization.
“no…”
“are you all done, sweetie?” he asked, smirking at the expression in your face. “sylus, put it back!” he scoffs. “that would make me look broke, kitten.” he says as he intertwines his hand with yours.
“wouldn’t want that now, right?” he pulls you to the register, taking note of the way you were flustered.
you didn’t dare touch anything in the next store you went to, but sylus already knew when you looked at an item a second too long.
you dragged him back home not long after.
rafayel:
you hated dress shopping. you hated the fact that your friend invited you to a themed wedding and the theme was waaaay different from your usual aesthetic so you confided in your boyfriend who believes that he knows what suits your body frame the best.
“no.” rafayel says as you open the curtains to the dressing room. you sighed, closing it.
another attempt.
“nope.”
another attempt.
“cutie, seriously. that color?”
the curtains draw shut once more.
you couldn’t count the stores that you’ve entered to only exit with no dress in hand. it was by the seventh store where you finally saw the dress that you think would look nice on you and it seemed that rafayel agreed as well as he urged you to try on the dress.
the curtains to the dressing room drew shut once more and it only took a few moments for your lips to quiver.
the dress looked… okay but it could be better. the fit was alright but there were awkward pieces of fabric that were loose in some places.
“cutie? is it on yet?” you hear rafayel’s voice get closer to the curtains and before you could stop him, he pulls it opened.
you see rafayel through the mirror, you turn around to face him as you dejectedly gesture to the dress hugging your body.
“do i look nice?” you asked, knowing that rafayel was about to either laugh at you or sugarcoat his words.
“yeah.” rafayel says with no malice in his tone. “huh?”
rafayel purses his lips before he pinches a section of the fabric together. “it just needs a little stitching up and pizzazz, but!” rafayel smiles and examines the dress once more. “i love how this compliments your skin and brings out your eyes. we just need to accentuate some areas.”
you turned around to look at the mirror and try to imagine the vision that rafayel was painting.
“you know, if you don’t see it. i can just… make the dress for you.” rafayel says as he leans back against the wall.
“besides, whatever you wear won’t overpower this.” rafayel teases as he taps your chin twice with the back of his hand. “my cutie’s face card is lethal. it’s only right i make her a dress just as deadly.”
he pouts. “now that i think about it, why didn’t you just approach me for the dress?”
“well you never told me you could sew.” you defend.
rafayel shakes his head. “i can do everything, cutie. you wound me.”
he takes a step back and closes the curtain to the dressing room.
“take it off so we can pay for it, we can use that as our base.”
after rafayel worked his magic, the dress looked absolutely ethereal on you. the amount of compliments you received on the dress only served to stroke your boyfriend’s ego.
you truly look nice. it didn’t matter if you wore a dress for a goddess or a worn out sweater. you are beautiful in rafayel’s eyes and he would never let any doubt fill your pretty little head.
caleb:
“pipsqueak, you hungry?” caleb calls out as you were splayed on his couch, back on the cushions and legs crossed as you absentmindedly scrolled through the channels.
“no. i’m not hungry” you respond. “i’m about to fall asleep.” you say as a yawn escapes you.
you hear caleb yell out an “are you sure?” but you chose to ignore it as your eyelids feel heavy and without a second thought, your eyes fell into a close.
you didn’t know how long you were asleep but it must’ve not been that long as you woke up to caleb sitting on the space left on the couch, a fresh batch of braised chicken wings with white steamed rice and an ice cold can of softdrink on the table in front of him as he flicked through the movie streaming site.
“oh. you’re awake?” caleb asks as he feels your legs move from behind him. “yeah. how long was i out?” you asked as you took a look at the clock.
“not that long, but it could count as a power nap.” caleb responds. he settles on a sitcom to serve as his entertainment. he picks up the bowl of rice and shovels a spoonful of it into his mouth, taking a bite of the chicken wing right after.
you watched as he ate, smelling the freshly cooked chicken that permeated the air. you hear your stomach grumble and you could only hope that caleb didn’t hear.
but with the twitch of his lips, all prayers went down the drain as he looked at you with a teasing smirk.
“didn’t you say you weren’t hungry?” caleb asked.
“i’m not hungry.” you confirmed. ignoring the way that your mouth was salivating at your favorite food that was within your grasp. you huffed, crossing your arms and turning to the side.
“would you hurry up? i wanna stretch my legs and i can’t do that if you’re sitting there.” caleb chuckles as he hears the pout in your voice. you distract yourself with your phone as caleb eats.
suddenly, you feel yourself being repositioned. caleb smiles at the grouchy look on your face.
“you can ask for a bite, y’know.” he taunts you, you huffed, not wanting to lose.
“i’m not hungry.” you repeat, only to be betrayed by your stomach that rumbled.
“pfft.” caleb huffs before raising a chicken wing to your lips. “come on, pipsqueak. i know it’s your favorite. won’t you taste my cooking?” he asked, intentionally widening his eyes to resemble a kicked puppy.
the meat touches your lips and you take a bite, immediately tasting the flavor of the wing.
“it’s good huh?” caleb asks as he feeds you a spoonful of rice.
“shut up.” you say as you swallow. you grabbed his drink off the table to take a small sip. caleb laughs as he stands up and walks away.
“where are you going?” you asked and caleb looks back with a smile.
“i’m getting your portion. i knew you couldn’t resist the charm of my braised chicken wings.”
sometimes you hate that caleb knows you too well.

Qué Delicia
Character: Sae Itoshi x reader
Content: Dancing at 3 A.M. to a song with Sae in the kitchen
[1,000 words]
You wake up to an empty bed, your heart thudding in your chest. The sheets are cool, and the familiar warmth of Sae's presence is nowhere to be found. Your mind immediately starts to spiral, did you do something wrong? Did he leave? Your thoughts race, fueled by past experiences that left you scarred and afraid to trust. The silence in the room feels suffocating as you sit up, the fear tightening around your chest.
Sae knows you, knows how your past weighs on you, and yet, he never comments on it. He never pushes you. He simply... waits. Patient, understanding, even when you pull away. But right now, the absence of his calming presence is too much. Your mind convinces you that maybe you’ve ruined something beautiful, that maybe you’ve pushed him away without even realizing it.
You throw the blankets off yourself, your body trembling slightly as you make your way to the door. The hallway is quiet. The house feels empty, like the space between the walls is holding its breath. You’re about to call out for him when you hear the soft clinking of dishes from the kitchen.
Relief washes over you, though it’s tinged with embarrassment. You realize how foolish your thoughts were, he hasn’t gone anywhere. He’s just... in the kitchen. Yet, the weight of your emotions still lingers, a mixture of gratitude and guilt. You’re afraid sometimes, afraid of the love you feel for him because of what you've endured before, but Sae never rushes you, never makes you feel like your fears are anything more than a part of you.
You cautiously approach him, your feet dragging slightly as you take slow, measured steps. Sae seems lost in thought, his gaze distant, as if he's somewhere far away. The kitchen feels smaller now, your thoughts racing again, but you quiet them as best you can. Slowly, you sit next to him, the space between you seeming to shrink with each passing second.
You rest your head gently on his shoulder, inhaling his familiar scent, something earthy and comforting. The tension in your chest starts to loosen, but there’s still a quiet flutter of uncertainty, like a bird unsure if it’s allowed to fly. Sae doesn’t move at first, his hand still hovering over the mug in front of him, but then you feel the soft hum of a tune. It’s slow, simple, almost like a lullaby, and it vibrates in his chest.
his hands reaching out to gently cup your face.
“Why are you up?” He kisses your forehead.
You close your eyes, leaning into his touch, feeling the warmth of his palms against your skin.
“Couldn’t sleep.” You admit, your voice soft like warm wax.
His arm, without a word, reaches around you. He pulls you closer, lifting you gently up onto the counter, his movements calm, steady, as if he’s done this a thousand times. You almost feel like you're floating in the quiet of the moment, the world outside fading away. Sae’s hands slide to your waist, and his rhythm begins to match the humming. You feel it in the subtle shift of his body, the way he moves without hesitation, as if the two of you have always been in sync.
For a moment, there’s nothing but the two of you, dancing softly in the kitchen. His movements are deliberate and gentle, guiding you without rushing, never forcing. The music between you is silent, but it speaks louder than anything else in that moment. You sway with him, your body falling into his rhythm, heart beating a little faster with every step you take together.
You close your eyes, and for the first time in what feels like forever, the knot in your chest loosens completely. The world beyond doesn’t matter. Nothing matters, except the warmth of Sae’s hands around you, his steady presence, and the way you two move together, no longer just a space between you, but something tangible and real. Something safe.
As the song in your heart continues to play, you feel the rhythm of your emotions start to align with his, a perfect dance of understanding and connection. Sae doesn’t speak, but the way his hand presses against your back, pulling you closer as you sway, tells you everything. No matter the doubts you hold, no matter the past that lingers, here, in this moment, you are exactly where you’re meant to be. And he is, too.
His lips kissed away any and all doubts you had, cleansing the darkness in your mind. You didn’t even realize the kind of man Sae became for you, or who he allowed himself to be around you. You didn’t know how much you’ve helped him.
During his time in Spain, Sae immersed himself in the language and culture, picking up bits and pieces along the way. Hispanic music was everywhere, creating an atmosphere he couldn't help but absorb. It played constantly, especially in bars, where couples would dance close together whenever the familiar tunes filled the air. One particular song, which he had heard many times, seemed to always set the perfect romantic mood.
He always imagined you with him whenever the song would come on. The way your cute smile lit up his heart, and how your delicate features seemed to soften when he cupped your face in his hands, those little moments made his heart race. He couldn’t get enough of you, of every little detail that made you uniquely, wonderfully you.
“You’re so delightful.” Sae whispered, unable to tear his eyes away from you. How dare you? How dare you look so beautiful? And you’re all his, he didn’t understand how he was given only a lifetime to cherish you because no amount of time could ever be enough.

Series Masterlist - Chapter One - Prev Chapter
I really need to make a reminder to update this on Thursdays. My fault for deciding to post it on a Thursday and keep up a weekly schedule I guess
Warnings: death, manhandling

You wander the winding tunnels of Jewel’s home, tracing a hand along the wall to keep yourself oriented as you listen out for him. You haven’t noticed his presence around all day. He’s probably not here right now. Still, you don’t risk calling out for him, especially when you’ve been provided the perfect opportunity to snoop.
The chill doesn’t seep in so deeply anymore. With new clothes and shoes (new to you, anyway), your feet are protected and you are quite comfortable. Sleeping on the hard rock isn’t doing you any favors, nor the odd smell clinging to the clothes, but, one thing at a time.
Your hand slips from rock to cloth. Scratchy, woven threads form a tapestry, lined on the edges with soft tassels. You can feel a hole hidden behind it. You push it aside and duck under, tassels gently brushing your head as you step into the strange room.
The air is immediately heavier. It’s thick with a strong, rancid odor that has you covering your nose right away. You can’t place it at all.
You step carefully forward, keeping your foot low to the floor and feeling for anything solid that you could step on or fall over. It’s clear for the first few feet. The further in you go, the stronger the smell is.
Something clunks as you knock it with your foot. You stop abruptly and slowly crouch down to feel it. It’s long and dry, thin, but solid, with tough balls at the ends. Your brows pinch together as you try to figure out what it is. You reach out and find another. Several more - all of different sizes. Amongst them is something rounded. You lift it in both hands, turning it over and over, until you find something jagged along one of its surfaces.
You hold it by either side of the uneven surface. The ridges of it seem to be symmetrical, digging into your wrapped palms in the same way. You trail your thumbs along it, trying to make any sense of this object. It’s just as dry as the other ones, but why is it shaped like this? It feels like it has two holes mirroring each other, but the holes don’t go all the way through. The divots inside are smooth. Another hole rests between them, but it is jagged and uneven. A little ways further down, ridges, also uneven, with some sharp and some flat, lining the item.
You slowly trace back up it. Clarity suddenly hits you.
You cry out and toss it down, falling backward in shock. It clatters hollowly amongst a pile of bones. Human bones.
“Now what are you doing all the way down here?” The deep voice cuts into your fear. It trails a sharp claw down your spine. Twists the terror languidly around a finger, relishing in the way you cower away from him and into the pile of bones. You flinch away from touching them.
Heavy footfalls announce his approach. They’re not fast. They’re casual, taking their time, as a predator to a cornered prey.
“Why- Why do you have these?” The question comes out shaky and half-formed, dazed as you try to figure out what he’ll do next. “Did you…?”
He scoffs. “Use your words, pet.”
The words taste bitter on your tongue. “Did you kill these people…?”
“Yes.” There’s no hesitation in his answer. No remorse, no doubts. Your blood runs cold. “Does that bother you?”
“Why did you kill them? You can’t just kill people!”
“They wanted to kill me first. How about now? Am I justified?” A sharp hand grabs you by the collar of your clothes, pulling you roughly to your feet and pushing you ahead of him. It’s not a human hand. It’s not soft where it touches you.
You struggle against his hold, but it’s a futile endeavor. The tapestry scratches at your face as you’re forced through it. Your feet struggle to keep up. “Hng- Let me go! Why did they want to kill you?! What are you?!”
The stairs are the most unforgiving. You can’t take each step fast enough for him. As such, your feet get beaten up on each ledge, scraped on the rough stone anywhere your feet aren’t covered. You realize with a sinking gut that the clothes you wear now are most definitely from the bodies in that room.
You’re thrown to the floor suddenly, on top of a thin cloth. You quickly recognize it as the scrap of fabric you sleep on each night you’ve been here so far.
“I’m a fiend,” he answers lowly, dangerously, daring you to be afraid because it’s what he wants. He wants you to fear that word, and all the weight behind it.
It’s not a word one hears used lightly back in the city. Devils, demons, dragons, fiends - all names for the beasts that are said to one day destroy the world. It’s a prophecy as old as the city, perhaps older. As a child, you were warned to stay vigilant for the coming of the end, of doomsday. If you ever heard any news relating to its arrival, you were told to report it immediately.
The one time you do, you’re forced to run for your life…
And here he is - the bringer of the End. Casting his shadow over your cowering body. Hiding literal skeletons in his closet. Was his prophecy trying to tell you about the end of Philos, too?
He leaves you in your silence. You feel his shadow shift, hear his boots walk away. All you have left is the thin sheet and your thoughts to keep you company.
“Am I justified?” That phrase rings in your ear as you huddle into the corner, doing your damndest to ignore the feeling of something creeping up behind you. The innate fear of being attacked from behind. Your ears strain in the silence to listen out for him.
“Am I justified?” He killed all of those people. Probably more. Is the murder of so many people justified?
“They wanted to kill me first.” Can you trust him at his word? He’s a fiend - how can you trust a fiend not to lie? Though, you can’t recall him lying to you before. So much as you can tell, anyway.
“They wanted to kill me first. How about now? Am I justified?”
Is he…?

What's In A Name

You hiss as you carefully pour the medicine over your palm. The bottle clatters against the floor, unintentionally. The pain is all you can think about, willing the sting to fade so you can keep working. As soon as it becomes bearable, you pick up the roll of cloth from your lap and work through feel alone to line it over your hand and start wrapping it. It’s not the best job ever, but it’ll do. Hopefully.
You repeat the actions on the other side. Soon enough, your hands are as well treated as you can manage. You feel the ends of the cloth, checking that they’re secure and won’t come unraveling.
Something almost giddy wafts up in your chest. You giggle dumbly as you open and close your hands, testing the limits of the wraps. “Hey, not bad!” you say to yourself. “Hah! I knew I could do it!”
Your cheering voice echoes back to you, slowly petering off into nothing. The silence sours the glee. You sigh and wrap your arms around yourself.
You have no idea what time it is, no idea where you actually are, and no idea where the stranger went off to. All you do know is that the longer you sit here on the thin sheet meant to be your bed, the more aware of your exhaustion you become.
You try to set everything where you can find it again. The room is small, so it shouldn’t be too difficult.
You feel out how long the sheet is. It’s not even half as wide as you are tall, but you’ll have to make do. You wrap it tightly around your shoulders and lay down slowly on the rock floor with your arm acting as a pillow. You wrap your cold feet tightly in whatever excess blanket you have left.
With a quiet prayer to Astra, you let yourself be consumed by a restless sleep. Visions of darkness, blood, and flowers, and a story that spans hundreds of years.
-
“Has your god seen fit to answer my prayer, yet?”
“He has, actually.” You walk alongside the edge of what you can only fathom to be a pile of gold. The metal coins dig into your feet, but that you can handle just fine. It’s when a gem is suddenly underfoot that you’re cursing and trying to brush it aside. You can feel his smug look every single time it happens.
You hear metal clinking against metal a short ways behind you. “And?”
You shoot a sly grin in that direction. “Why should I tell you? What would I get in return?”
He huffs an amused laugh. “What do you want in return?”
“Fresh food and water, and new clothes. It’s freezing in here, you know? And I haven’t eaten anything since…” You trail off, thinking. “What time is it, anyway?”
“You’re demanding a lot for a simple prophecy, pet.”
“Oh?” You turn away, walking along the mounds of treasure again. “Then I guess you’re not interested in what your future holds? Pity. I found it quite interesting.”
He sighs. Good. Serves the bastard right for kidnapping you. You hope he regrets it every single day. Though… whether he’d kill you over it is definitely a risk.
“I’ll get you some food. There’s a spring in the tunnels that you can get your water from. As for clothes…” You turn to listen better as you hear furniture creaking. Heavy footfalls approach, rounding you. “I have some tucked away. Whether they’ll fit you or not is questionable.”
“Are they good quality?”
“They’re better than your tattered rags. Does that suffice?”
You hum, considering. “Your destiny is going to be intertwined with someone else’s.”
He scoffs. “That’s it?”
“Until I’ve had a proper meal, yeah! Besides, I’m still trying to decipher some of what the prophecy is saying.” You cross your arms over your chest with a frown. “It’s like it spans millennia, but that shouldn’t be possible.”
He’s blessedly silent for a minute, giving you time to consider this predicament, before something hard nudges at your back. “Come on, pet. I’ll show you where the clothes are.”
You follow the clinking of metal under his shoes out of the chamber. “Stop calling me that! My name is Y/N, I’m not a pet, least of all yours, and I’m not some helpless ‘little thing’ for you to toy with!”
He tests your name on his tongue. It’s startling to hear it said in your captor’s voice. Perhaps you should have held your tongue and let him continue insulting you. A name can be a dangerous thing, after all.
“What’s your name?”
“I don’t have one.”
“What?!” you balk. “You must have one! What am I supposed to call you?”
You run into something solid and warm. The heat of his breath brushes your skin again as he whispers teasingly into your ear. “You can always call me master.”
You try to shove his face away with no luck. He laughs at your efforts, but gives you space once more. “Not in a million years. What about…” You wrack your brain for any semblance of something he liked from what little you could piece together. “Silver? Or Gold, or something?”
He chuckles. “I’m a bit more precious than that.”
“Okay, fine, then how about, um, Jewel? Jewels are better than silver and gold, aren’t they?” You hear him sigh, long and drawn out. The clinking of coins follows his footsteps. You trail after. “Look, give me something to work with here!”
“Jewel is fine. I don’t need a mortal’s name anyway.”
“That’s the second time you’ve specifically called out mortals,” you point out. The airflow in the cave changes as you step from the grand treasure chamber (this guy has some weird hobbies) to the closed-in tunnels. You’re grateful when you hear him bypass the stairs. “What are you if not a mortal, too?”
“Like I said before, maybe I’ll tell you one day.”
You sigh. “Jewel, you are one strange guy.”

You think this is some joke to him. He’s walking ahead of you, albeit incredibly slowly, while you shuffle along the wall, scraped hands guiding you through what you can only assume is a cave. The walls are rough and jagged, not to mention winding. You think you feel doorways, but every time you start to turn into one to try getting any vague impression for what’s inside, he chastises you with an amused, “Over here, pet.”
You huff when your toe hits stairs. “This is your home?” you bite. You shuffle one foot forward to feel for the next step. What a nightmare. “Were you raised by Wanderers or something?”
He chuckles deeply. It reverberates around the hall. “It’s much worse than that.”
“Oh, yeah? How?”
“Hmph. Maybe I’ll tell you one day.”
“Asshole.”
“Careful, pet. Your god is watching.”
The cave is cool, seemingly untouched by the sun outside. The chill numbs your feet, bites at your fingertips. Even your ceremonial garb does little to keep you warm. You just bite your cheek. You’re already a prisoner here, best not allow yourself to be too weak around him. A difficult task, indeed.
You misjudge one of the steps. Your toes just catch the edge, but it’s not enough to support you and they slip. With no railing to hold, you cannot grasp for support. You tip backward with a shout.
Something hard wraps around your waist again. It holds you tightly, shoving you forward and onto a solid platform. Had that been the top step? You’re sick and tired of landing on your hands and knees like this.
You’re released as you sit up, back finding a solid wall to lean into as you cover your heart and will it to stop racing. “Ah,” you pant, “thank you.”
The “wall” suddenly steps away from you, and you catch yourself in another heart-stopping moment to save yourself from tipping backwards. “I won’t save you next time.”
“Let me go and there won’t be a next time.”
He chuckles, but it lacks any real mirth. “Get up. Or do I have to drag you the rest of the way?”
You sigh. Still, he doesn’t rush you when you sit a moment longer to calm your heart. Ever since you were a child, your health was of the utmost concern. You couldn’t do anything with the other kids, and not because of your lack of sight. Even braille books were considered too dangerous. The risk of a paper cut getting infected and killing you was a risk nobody was willing to make. As such, this much excitement was a shock to your system.
And suddenly, you find yourself worried about the tiniest cut getting infected and killing you out here.
You reach out, feeling for the real wall this time. Loose sand scrapes beneath you as you bring yourself to your feet. “Do you have any medical supplies here?”
He starts walking again and you follow.
“Would you be able to use them if I said yes?”
You wish you could see, just so you could smack him upside the head. “You keep underestimating me. I suggest you stop now before you embarrass yourself.”
“That’s a gamble I’m willing to take.” He sighs, sharp and tired, annoyed. “I might have some around.”
“Well, do you have water, at least? Clean cloth?”
“You’re a demanding little thing, aren’t you?”
“And you’re an insufferable bastard. Neither of us are too happy with each other, but if you won’t let me go, I suggest you do the bare minimum and allow me to clean my injuries,” you hold out your palms, unsure if he’ll even see them, “so I don’t get sick and die.”
His steps come to a stop. You stop with them. Your skin prickles and crawls, unsettled and on edge. His steps approach. You lean your shoulder into the wall, holding your ground rather than being backed up to some other possibly dangerous or deadly area in the cave.
“Tell me a prophecy, and I’ll get you your medical supplies.”
You scoff. “It’s not that simple. It’s Astra who picks and chooses what futures I see. I know nothing of you. All the prophecies I know right now are for the people in the city.”
Is that his breath fanning across your face? You flinch back at its heat. You feel like an injured rabbit facing down the maw of a starved wolf.
His voice is low when next he speaks. “Then tell me one of them.”
You turn your face away. His breath hits your cheek, though tendrils of the air brush down your neck. You suppress a shiver. You don’t want to give him the satisfaction. “There’s a scholar there. He studies the heavens and tracks their movement. His parents are anxious for him to conceive an heir. His wife is pregnant now, but…”
“But…?”
“... The child… will be a stillborn. They won’t know the cause of death, and that shame will fall to the mother. She won’t live long after, either, once the scholar crumples under the disappointment.”
He hums. The heat of his breath disappears. “I’ll get you your medicine. Next time, I’d be interested in hearing a prophecy of my own future.”
“Then you’ll have to pray to Astra. Only he can grant you the knowledge you seek; I’m just the messenger.” “Well, messenger,” he steps around you and nudges you with an elbow, “this is where you’ll sleep. Try not to fall down the stairs looking for me.”

@alfredosaws it's finally fucking here babeyyy

You gasp for air, wincing as sharp stones prick at your bare feet. You’re scared to stop. Terrified of what could happen to you if you do. These people you’ve known your whole life, hellbent on “punishing” you, for something you have no control over.
You trip over something. You’re not sure what, but you cut up your hands pretty bad trying to save your face from hitting the dirt. Or… what kind of rocks are these?
You hold your breath. You listen. All you hear is the rapid thudding of your own heartbeat. No footsteps. No shouting.
Are you… free?
The exhaustion catches up to you. Your lungs burn, your chest aches. You can’t get up, too weak to run any more. So you fall. You collapse onto your back. The heat of the sun warms your face as you heave and wheeze, fighting to breathe normally again. You cough, mouth dry. You didn’t think to bring anything; you couldn’t. You had to get out of there as fast as possible to preserve yourself. Nothing else mattered outside of that.
But now you’re realizing just how futile your position is:
You have no idea where you are and you can’t go back.
You have no food, water or shelter.
You have nothing to defend yourself with, nor any idea if something is going to attack at any second.
And you’re blind.
Your groan under your heavy breaths. “Fuck.”
You sense the presence before you hear it. You bolt upright, clutching at the stitch in your side.
“You’re trespassing.” The voice is deep, dark. Dangerous. The hair on the back of your neck raises.
“I’m sorry. Just- if you can point me in the direction of the next civilization, I’ll leave.”
The stranger scoffs. “There are punishments for trespassing,” he warns. The threat in his voice hangs heavy over you.
You pull off the symbol of your faith from your neck and hold it out where you believe he is standing. “This is all I have. Take it to spare my life and I promise I will never come back.”
The silence is stiff. Stifling. You frown, tilting your head to listen closer for any sound of the stranger. Did he leave? How could anyone be so silent?
“Hmph. A blind mortal. Where are your owners, little thing?”
You bristle at the insinuation. The threat of death is forgotten entirely, overshadowed by your anger. “Excuse you, sir! I am my own being, perfectly capable of taking care of myself! I am not a pet to be owned!”
“Some capabilities,” he drones, teasing and unimpressed. “Do you plan on eating the gravel and drinking the sand to survive?”
You drop your hand, anger fizzling out. The symbol of your faith, hand carved from the heartwood of an ancient tree tragically felled, clatters hollowly against the stones. “My life was more important to save. I could not spare a moment longer on anything else.”
You listen closely as the rocks shift under something’s weight. The sun’s warmth is hidden from your skin. You feel something hard slip in the loop of the necklace and you let it go on instinct.
The stranger hums in thought. “This is the symbol of Astra, is it not?”
“It is.” You nod. “I’m his chosen.”
“Meaning?”
You tilt your head up at him. “You don’t know?” You open your mouth, but quickly shut it again. You just got chased out of the city for precisely this reason. Are you so recklessly prepared to force yourself into that same situation again? At worse odds?
He chuckles sardonically. “You have such a feisty mouth on you, but now is when you choose to shut it?”
“I just…” You lower your head. You have never been good at lying. The last time you lied, it was to tell a young man that his wife would survive childbirth. Astra had punished you then, and you have sworn yourself to the truth since. “I am surprised anyone doesn’t know about Astra’s Chosen. You must not be from the city.”
“No, I’m not.”
The sun touches your face once more. The rocks shift in front of you, beside you, behind you. You pray Astra will not allow you to die here. You know he will not hear you; he doesn’t listen to his puppets.
“Tell me what it means.”
“Will you let me go if I do?”
“Depends on what you decide to tell me. I may just enjoy keeping a little thing like you around.”
You glare, aiming it over your shoulder and up toward the voice. His steps falter. “Stop calling me that. I have a name, just as I am sure you do.”
You cannot run, you cannot hope to have any chance of survival out here alone, nor hope to survive whatever this stranger deems punishment. If you must die, you will not die a liar.
You sigh as you face forward once again. Your palms are covered in scraped skin, flecking away from the sensitive under-layer. Thin lines of blood show just where the unusual rocks have cut into you. You pick idly at the flesh and answer his question: “When Astra chooses someone, they become gifted with foresight. Through us, He shows glimpses into the future, prophecies of what is to come.
“Now,” your voice wavers slightly, uncertain, “will you let me go?”
Something wraps harshly around your waist, pulling you from the ground. You struggle, your back held firmly around something solid and warm.
The ground disappears beneath your feet.
You scream in innate fear. You dig your nails into the thing around your waist, trying to break free from its grasp. For all you knew, the stranger was about to drop you into a nearby pit or canyon. The idea of surviving the fall and being forced to die slowly with broken bones and in agony makes you fight harder, trying to kick at him.
The stranger huffs an annoyed sound by your ear. “I wouldn’t struggle so much, pet. You might make me drop you.”
Your head spins, trying to figure out which way is up. You cling desperately to the thing around your waist (is this an arm?) and allow your legs to fall limp, pulled by gravity. “Where are we?!” you cry out. “What are you doing?!”
Gusts of air blow past your face, cooling your skin from the hot sun - wherever it may be now. The arm holds onto you tighter, nearly crushing the air from your lungs. “I’m taking you home.”
Ice floods your veins. “Home?”
“My home, pet,” he corrects harshly. It instills no peace within you.
The wind stills. Something touches your feet, solid and firm beneath you. The ground again? You fall to your hands, knees buckling with relief as soon as the stranger lets you go. Your whole body trembles. You can’t seem to get it to stop. All you can do is cling to the ground and urge your mind to stop spinning, stop grappling with the fact that you were in the air somehow, and focus on reorienting yourself.
“I found a new treasure.”

𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐊𝐄𝐄𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒
- sylus x reader
you suspect something’s off when you catch your lover with the hunter girl, so you decide to give him the cold shoulder. his way of winning you back? trapping you in a bet—if he wins this underground fight match, you’re back to being his
genre/warnings: 18+ suggestive content—minors do not interact!—brief smut, comfort, total fluff, assassin!reader (not l&ds mc), based on sylus' card radiant brilliance
note: this has been looong buried in my drafts since before my writer's block started :') again, a part of the assassin!reader that started with strictly (un)professional
Your lover— he is definitely hiding something.
“Mmph!” A moan escaped you mid-kiss as his palm suddenly cupped your right breast, squeezing and stroking it, while two of his left fingers thrusted inside you, getting you wet.
His fevered lips and tongue melded with yours, his wicked fingers driving you to the brink of madness—and oh damn, the devil that possessed them felt so heavenly—as he pressed you against the vanity, bending you over its edge.
A knowing gleam flickered in his eyes. “Mm, you talk too much, woman.”
Your thoughts blurred, teetering on the edge of control, yet deep within, a spark of aggravation incessantly burned, especially when you remembered the person you had caught him manhandling earlier this afternoon—
Miss Hunter.
“Sylus—! Stop!”
"Tch." He pulled away with a hiss as soon as you pushed his chest away with everything you had. Just like that, you were left high and dry; the emptiness his fingers had left behind made you instinctively cross your legs. "Why are you so uncooperative tonight?"
"You—" Gasping for breath, you clutched your slipping nightgown, glaring sharply at him despite the discomfort of the hard surface beneath you. "You really think you can shut me up... with sex?"
"I'm telling you, nothing happened." Sylus’ lips curled with a smug hint of satisfaction, only fueling your irritation. "Didn’t know my woman had such a jealous streak until now."
If there was one thing you’d learned from years by Sylus' side, it was that everything he did had a purpose. If it had been some random bimbo hanging around the casino or his resorts, you wouldn’t bat even an eye.
But this was the Miss Hunter—the very girl he had spent decades searching for, the one with whom he shared a bond so profound that he had forsaken everything just for the chance to find her again.
And compared to her, you were just his bedwarmer... who just happened to catch his eye.
"You two were kissing," you accused almost spitefully, the words laced with bitter edge.
His grin vanished, replaced by a look of distaste. "We were not."
You knew what you saw—he cornered her in the furthermost corner of the base, far away from even from the prying eyes of Luke and Kieran, and they were definitely just an inch away from each other. "Then what were you two doing?"
"Can't we talk just like acquaintances do?" The lack of viable answer gnawed at you. If there was nothing to hide, why didn’t he just say so and put your suspicions to rest?
"Will you do her like you do me?" The venom in your voice startled even you, slipping out before you could stop it. "Ha. I should’ve known..."
By now, he had this sour yet stern look in his face that made you almost shudder but you stood your ground. His tone was almost mocking, "Insecurity makes you so bitter, sweetie. Get yourself together."
It felt like a prick in the heart. Oh. As heartless as you were in the face of blood and gore, you still had it apparently when faced with your lover's conniving red eyes and sinful lips.
But more than that... as they said, heartbreak is one thing, but your ego is another.
"To hell with you!" you snapped, sitting up straight. Sylus blinked, momentarily caught off guard by the look on your face—was it showing the hurt? Or just plain defiance? Even you weren’t sure as you spun on your heel and stormed out of his room promptly.
Not for the first time, the very idea that he might be getting on with another woman twisted something inside you, the ache sharper than you expected. It suddenly saddened you to a degree that it brought mist to your eyes.
For the next three days, you ignored Sylus almost completely. He tried to get back to your good graces, but you paid him no mind, acting as if he didn't exist.
“Missus, please— just say yes!”
And caught in the crossfire, poor Luke and Kieran had become his reluctant messengers.
You unconsciously shot a sharp glare at the twins. Perhaps it was the mental strain you were putting yourself under, but you truly hadn’t meant to scare them more than they already were.
"Boss is really cranky when he isn't in a good mood," Luke pleaded, clasping his hands together. "Please just help us this time, will you?"
"He promises he’ll make it right!" Kieran chimed in with a hopeful grin. "As soon as he wins his match this weekend, you’ll see—there’s nothing to worry about!"
Sylus and his penchant for boxing. You knew these underground matches were something he indulged in now and then, and you'd let him be.
But this time...
"How are you so sure he's going to win?" You lifted your chin, a taunting smirk curling your lips. "And no, I'm not going. Tell him that."
"Missus, you have to see reason— there is no way Boss is having an affair—" Kieran insisted, shaking his head in frustration.
"Boss is whipped!" Luke cut in, throwing his hands up. "For you! Can't you see?!"
"..." For a solid five seconds, silence blanketed the room. You arched an eyebrow so high it made Luke look like he'd just spilled the world’s best-kept secret, while Kieran slapped a hand over his mask in exasperation.
And things were obviously not getting better—
"Ha. I'm what?"
You could see the twins visibly gulping the very second Sylus' voice boomed across the hall, and you rolled your eyes.
"Pfft," he let out this low chuckle as he made his way towards the three of you. "Hear that, sweetie? Luke isn't wrong."
"..."
"The little kitty's anger hasn't subsided, I see," he murmured, tilting his head to the side with a playful smirk, arms folded across his chest. "Such little trust you have in me."
You sighed. "Don't tempt me to hate you prolifically, Sylus."
"You wound me," he retorted, ruby-red eyes narrowed. "I have been nothing but honest and transparent."
You turned away, pressing your lips into a tight line. Deep down, you knew how childish all of this felt. Maybe it was nothing, after all. Maybe, just like he said, it was your insecurity twisting things.
And why are you so insecure, anyway?
"Keep your eyes on me, kitten."
Suddenly, caught off guard, you almost yelped as he tilted your chin towards him, forcing you to meet his gaze. Your heart raced wildly, but you fought to keep it in check.
"I win, and you’ll do what I say," his eyes flicking from yours to your lips, his voice a velvety whisper in your ear. "But if I lose... you can have your way—however you want."
Your pride took over. A second later, you jerked your face away, refusing to give him the satisfaction. To salvage your dignity, you let out an indignant scoff.
"Best hope you lose then."
You’d never been fond of crowds, let alone sitting in the stands of a boxing match.
And yet here you were, clutching a bouquet of fresh flowers—the twins had practically shoved them into your arms before bolting away—surrounded by the deafening roar of fans.
You would punish them later, you so would. It was humid and you were fuming. There was nothing interesting here, and to top it all off, Sylus’ turn to the ring was taking forever.
Until it didn't.
When he finally stepped into the spotlight, you caught sight of him on the big screen. And in that moment—when that devilish smirk curled his lips—you could’ve sworn he wasn’t aiming it at the crowd.
He was throwing it right at your direction.
And oh, how the rapid and traitorous thump-thump-thump inside your chest drowned out everything else, as if the roar of the crowd gradually faded at the realization.
How is it that he always manages to get your heart in his grasp?
. . .
When they said this sport wasn’t for the weak, they weren’t lying. No matter how tough you thought you were, you still flinched every time the opponent’s fist connected with your lover’s jaw.
Despite all the aggravation you harbored about him, watching him stumble and get knocked back felt like a punch to your own gut. In that moment, all you wanted was for it to end.
And when it finally was—when the referee raised Sylus’ arm and declared his victory—you exhaled a shaky breath you hadn’t realized you were holding. Relief washed over you in a quiet, fleeting wave.
However, reporters and cheers quickly swarmed him, and the distance between you felt even greater then. There he stood, proud as ever, lofty as if standing atop clouds, surveying the world with thinly veiled contempt. Meanwhile, you…
You were still dissatisfied. Sylus had a way of winning everything he set his sights on, while you remained stuck with your own petty grievances and emotional baggage you subjected yourself to.
It was vexing, really. How you wanted him to win and not at the same time. How you wanted his everything and knowing you would never be able to.
“What’s the secret to winning this match?!” one reporter asked, voice brimming with excitement.
Sylus answered with a casual smirk. “I made a bet I absolutely can’t lose,” he said coolly. “So, I won.”
The girls in the stands erupted into deafening cheers at his response, their shrill voices forcing you to cover your ears.
The nerve. You scoffed, irked by his answer and by the crowd’s adoration. You decided you wouldn’t let him have the satisfaction of you lingering here any longer.
Snatching up your bag and that damned bouquet, you marched toward the exit with long, determined strides when—
“Ooh? And who is this special person?!”
“Ah, look, there she is.”
You froze mid-step as the spotlight suddenly pinned you in its beam. Whirling around, your breath caught as you saw Sylus descending from the arena, his gaze locked onto yours.
What the hell?
For a moment, you froze in utter disbelief as he approached you with that effortless grace, as if the crowd around him didn’t exist. Before you could piece together your fragmented thoughts, he was already standing before you.
“Are you mad?!” you murmured in a hiss, your voice barely louder than a breath over the distant roar of cheers, yet pointed enough to pierce the air between you.
Sylus, however, only let out a snort, swiftly snatching the bouquet from your arms, and pulling you by the shoulders— his breath tickled you ear as he whispered:
“Got you.”
—and before you could react, he crashed his lips on yours in a bold kiss that at sent the crowd into an instant uproar of cheers.
“Whoa, whoa! The champion! Look how manly he is!”
“He has a girlfriend?!”
“Oh, my! To be that girl!”
“—!” You almost pushed him away, only to falter when you realized his kiss was anything but forceful. It was deep but disarmingly gentle.
Sylus pulled back just as quickly, his eyes twinkled with mischief as he took in your stunned expression.
“You’re mine now, sweetie,” he said with a smug grin, giving you a light pat in the head.
The way his eyes crinkle as he looks at you... Your cheeks burned, and your heart thundered in your chest, drowning the roars of the swooning crowd—
Because in that moment, you could’ve sworn there was nothing but pure adoration in those mesmerizing garnet eyes of his.
“You've gone and done it... What if anyone recognizes us?”
Later that night, freshly showered and wrapped in silk nightgowns, you sat at the edge of the bed, towel in hand as you dried your wet hair. You cast a glance at Sylus, who had just bathed with you and now lounged nearby with an unbothered grin.
The events from this afternoon still felt like somewhat of a dream to you. You had never been under that much of a spotlight before— too used to a life shrouded in shadows, quietly biding your time, preparing to brandish your blade when the moment came.
But through Sylus, every now and then, you caught a glimpse of what it felt like to stand on the other side of that darkness. And it felt freeing— like you could finally breathe, unburdened by the scent of blood and gunpowder.
"Wouldn't that be fun? Imagine the headlines," he shrugged nonchalantly. "The Onychinus leader and his missus... masquerading as a boxer and his fan for a day."
You huffed, shooting him a stink eye. "That's not even funny."
Despite the public display that Sylus had more or less pulled and made the two of you known as lovers even in underground world, there was still a gnawing curiosity at the back of your mind, feeding your insecurity—
The sight of him and Miss Hunter replayed again in your mind's eye. It was never fun finding them together in such close proximity.
And yet, in the end... he returned to you, still. Unspoken it may be, but Sylus had always taken your side so far.
You let out a long, resigned sigh. That caught his attention as he turned to you. "What is it?"
"Nothing," you quipped, slightly grimacing. "Forget it. I'm going to sleep."
Sylus raised an eyebrow, his gaze lingering on you. Even when you hid it, he knew what you'd wanted to ask and if you asked it now, he would tell you.
The way your face had fallen bothered him more than he'd like to admit. He rose from the recliner and moved to your side. "No, you won't be sleeping."
"What?"
He knelt beside you, gently taking hold of your leg, and pressed a kiss to your calf, his touch warm and unhurried as he met your gaze with a sly smile.
"Sylus..." you eyed him with incredulity, feeling yourself getting warm.
His red eyes crinkled. "Don't you want to ask me something?"
Your hand reached out to caress his face, and he leaned into your touch. That simple act alone brought a small, intrigued smile to your face. "No."
"Hmph. Really?"
"What?" You traced your fingers on his sharp jaw, admiring it. "You think I'll demand you for answers about whether you're two-timing me with Miss Hunter again?"
Sylus tilted his head, relishing the way your fingers cradled his face, staying quiet, however.
You were really great at this pushing and pulling game. It irked him to see how detached you seemed now when he knew a part of you had been fazed by it days ago.
He disliked it when you tried to hide what you were feeling. He hated it even more when you doubted him for anything. But seeing how unhappy you had been lately rattled him.
"Nothing happened," he said in a low voice, catching your hand and locking eyes with you. "Would you feel better if I had told you that since the beginning?"
"Who knows?" you replied with a soft shrug, a wry smile on your lips. "You didn't tell me before."
What a vixen. The thought simmered in his mind. Mine, though.
Like a cat pouncing on its owner, Sylus suddenly moved, going straight for your lips and pinning you to the bed. Intertwining his fingers with yours, he pried your lips open with his tongue.
Yet despite it all, you felt how gentle he was. The Sylus from before would just fuck you senseless and be done with it, but the one with you now... he treated you with an unexpected tenderness, as if savoring every second with you.
He pulled away only when you were breathless, the saliva string between your lips breaking as he gave you a moment to gasp for air. His gaze softened, lingering on your flushed face, a satisfied smile curling on his lips.
"You will see for yourself tomorrow. Tonight, however..." he trailed off, his lips hovering just above yours.
But you placed one hand on his chest and another on his neck, looking up at him with bleary eyes, the vulnerability in your gaze tugging at something within him.
"Actually, I'm a bit exhausted..." You found his intense gaze and blinked slowly. "So, can you be not as rough?"
"Ha." Sylus let out a snicker at your request, taking the hand you had on his chest and pressing a soft kiss on it.
What a precious little thing you are. Your face right now... It was a look he couldn’t resist, one that made him want to protect you and ruin you, all at once.
His smirk lingered. "Of course, sweetie. I'll go easy on you tonight."
And true to his word, he didn't break his promise.
Even as he pinned both your wrists above your head, capturing your lips in a heated kiss—
—as he dived between your legs, his tongue skillfully devouring your clit—
—and as you tangled your fingers in his hair, pulling him impossibly closer.
And later, when he pulled you into his arms and murmured softly until you drifted to sleep.
When you woke up the next morning, it was because of two things.
One— it was freezing. Your thin nightgown was definitely no match against the biting chill of a winter morning.
And two— Sylus wasn't here.
You wondered where he could have gone as it was his bedtime, but as you pulled the comforter closer to keep yourself from shivering, something caught your eye.
It took you a full three seconds to process it.
There was a ring on your finger.
"Huh...?" You were jolted awake by the sight of the glittering ruby. It was intricate, yet strangely nostalgic, reminding you of Sylus' eyes. How? Why?
You immediately turned to the nightstand, your gaze landing on a small jewelry box sitting neatly atop it. You scrambled for it, the name of the jeweler embossed on the lid caught your attention. It wasn’t from anywhere in N109 Zone.
It clicked to you at all once. So, that was why he was with Miss Hunter?
But more than that, what caught your heart was when you flipped it open and found a note inside, with a scrawled handwriting you would never mistake for anyone else's—
Because forever is too long and boring to be spent alone. So, your answer is…?

you've been touching him a lot since he got back.
itoshi sae doesn't do anything about it — doesn't dissuade you from tugging at his sleeve or sliding his jacket zipper back and forth while you talk. doesn't comment or bring your attention to it.
but he watches.
you've been around him a lot since his plane landed, making up for all the time he's spent abroad, as if your daily chat threads haven't been enough. most of the time it's just the two of you, the way it used to be. sometimes his brother is around, though thankfully it doesn't seem like you've gotten any closer to rin since sae left.
other times there's a group, mostly your friends, a mix of guys and girls who don't seem to know what to do with themselves around him. sae is used to this — fame brings strange things to light — but you treat him as you always have, except for the touching.
you don't touch anyone else.
it makes him think.
sae has his reasons. he's never let your relationship get past that line, drawn in the sand. he's a professional football player on the other side of the world, and you have a life here. you have friends (even though you still call him your best friend), you have a job (that you complain about all the time), you have family (that can't be bothered to ever congratulate you on anything).
it wouldn't be right — to make you leave. to take you away. not when he needs to focus on being the best in the world.
(he is the best in the world. all those years ago he showed the U-20 team in japan the difference between them, the way the most they could hope for was dating a gravure model. sae never cared about that aspect. he already had you.)
he lets you touch him, but he doesn't touch you back. he keeps you at arm's length — where you're safe.
and then you ask him to be your wingman.
someone else — touching you? kissing you? having you? unthinkable. sae steps out of the shower and barely dries off before pulling on his briefs and pants. steps into his room and there you are, sitting on his bed, looking good, if a little sad.
he considers telling you to get your passport updated and catches the way your eyes trail down his form. maybe this conversation would be easier if he's wearing a shirt — your gaze is too heated, too distracting. you probably think you're being sneaky, hiding your feelings as best as you can, but sae knows you.
and your casual touches are ocean waves washing that line in the sand away.
sae walks towards his closet when it happens again. your finger in his belt loop, stopping him in his tracks. "what?"
"you were ignoring me," you say. "i asked if my outfit is okay."
your outfit is more than okay. "i would have told you to change if it wasn't."
"if you're going to be my wingman, shouldn't you hype me up?" you huff.
sae feels his jaw clench at the reminder. "no," he says, and his tone comes out cold. you don't seem to notice, falling back on his bed and testing every bit of self control in his grasp. "this is a waste of time."
he goes to pull on a shirt before he does something drastic. you're saying something, but it hardly matters when his flight leaves if you'll be on the plane with him. you've covered your eyes with your forearm, so you miss the way he pauses at the foot of the bed, teal eyes drinking in your form splayed out so defenselessly.
sae climbs over you silently, knees nudging yours apart, hands planted on either side of your body. "this is a waste of time," he repeats, watching with amusement as you take in his position. a blush sweeps across your face, but you don't push him off. that's a good sign, at least.
"what, you think i'm not worth being a wingman for?" you ask. silly. you have no idea.
and then you reach for his belt loops again, as if that's a totally normal thing to do and not something that drives him a little nuts every time. sae prides himself on his control, though, so he doesn't lean down to kiss you just yet.
"tell me," sae says, "have you become this touchy with all your friends since i've been gone?"
"n-no?"
it's cute, how wide your eyes get. sae leans down a little closer. feels your breaths on his lips. still doesn't kiss you — yet. "then i won't be your wingman. you don't need one."
"why not?"
do you know how breathless you sound? sae considers his apartment in spain, how he'll need to make sure the bedroom doesn't share any walls with the neighbors. the way you sound is all for him and him alone.
"because you have a boyfriend, now."
(companion piece to this)

♫ Beckah Amani - High on Loving You (Talk)
We don't have to end Love you till we spent Love you till we got nothing else left
⭅ back to m.list

Somewhere in the distance, the sea is crashing against the shore. It’s still pouring, a warm summer rain in the midst of the night. Osamu finds her outside on the veranda.
While he had locked himself in the bathroom, texting his friends in despair and having a revelation over how desperately he needed to kiss her or else he’ll go insane, she must have taken her notebook and retreated somewhere else. There was something cat-like about her, how she always seemed to slip away from him without ever straying too far.
She’s sitting cross-legged on a beach towel, one they bought together in a small shop in Tokyo before they left for Okinawa, blissfully unaware that they wouldn’t get a chance to hang out at the beach like they imagined. It’s whatever. They still had fun–everything is fun when they’re together, even mundane things like getting groceries and brushing teeth side by side.
Osamu looks at her and thinks that he’s never been more in love.
The feeling is all-consuming; it rattles his bones and makes his head spin, like having a fever whenever he is in her proximity. It’s taking him apart from the inside, making space for her, somewhere she can lay her heart down when it gets too heavy.
Judging from the small frown on her face, she is currently brooding over some recipe she came up with, or thinking how they could possibly try three different places to eat before they had to leave for the airport in the morning.
She glances over her shoulder and her face lights up when she notices him lingering there in the doorframe. It’s enough to make him falter. She closes her notebook and puts it aside, patting the empty spot beside her, and Osamu doesn’t hesitate and lets himself be drawn to her. When he sits down, her head falls against his shoulder like it always does these days, and his arm instinctively wraps around her middle, pulling her a little closer to him.
It’s bliss and it’s torture.
“Can’t believe it’s our last night together,” she murmurs and the sadness in her voice is killing him on the inside. He should kiss it all away, he thinks. He could. Instead he tightens his grip around her, his fingers brushing over her side, grazing a sliver of skin where her shirt rucked up.
“Don’t say that,” he mumbles back, his chin resting on top of her head, “maybe I’ll just take you back to Osaka with me. Then we don’t have to be apart. Like, ever.”
Hearing her quiet laugh, he hums a little and wishes there was a way to freeze time. He’d be content just staying like this; with her in his arms and the quiet knowledge that they’re in love with each other. It should be enough. Except that it isn’t, and every atom of his body is aching to be with her.
She pulls slightly away from him to look him in the eyes, one of her hands coming up to his face and brushing a few strands of hair back before the hand settles in the nape of his neck, fingertips dancing across the sensitive skin there.
“Your hair has gotten long,” she points out.
“I guess? Didn’t have time to take care of it before I left. Too busy working, and when I’m not working I’m too caught up thinking about you to get anything else done,” Osamu huffs with a small grin and leans a bit closer to her. He notices the way her gaze darts to his lips, then up to his eyes again. It’s making his throat feel dry.
He really, really wants to kiss her.
“Oh, so it’s my fault, alright,” she laughs and covers his mouth with her free hand as if she read his mind. He notices the slight tremble of her fingers but doesn’t comment on it. “I’ll cut it for you then. Easy.”
She lets him peel her hand away from his lips, a small kiss brushed against the palm of it before he looks up to her again. He keeps her hand in his, his thumb brushing over her knuckles. “Have you ever cut hair before?”
“I’ve been cutting Makki’s, with the same craft scissors ever since middle school,” she replies and laughs again when a long silence falls between them, Osamu’s expression something between amusement and resignation as he ponders on that information.
“That’s like, the opposite of convincing and reassuring, but sure, let’s do it,” he says and rises to his feet, not letting go of her hand when he helps her up. It’s late and they should probably try and find some sleep but it feels impossible with all the unspoken words hanging in the air between them.
They move over to the bathroom and Osamu takes his shirt off, trying to be nonchalant about it but failing terribly when he catches her gaze in the mirror. She looks at him and he can see the uncertainty in her eyes, the silent questions, the longing. The hunger too. He wordlessly hands her the hair trimmer because it’s easier than letting the words clawing in the back of his throat out. She sits down on the edge of the bathtub and he settles on the bathroom floor between her legs, his back facing her.
It tickles, the way her fingers brush over the nape of his neck and his ears, gently tilting his head from side to side, up and down too, paired with the soft buzzing of the hair trimmer. Osamu thinks that he could get used to this; this odd domestic feeling blooming in his chest and her hands tangled in his hair.
“Tokyo will be lonely without you,” she says quietly, then clicks her tongue a little when his head whips around to look at her. She grabs it to tilt it in the right position again and Osamu snickers.
“I’ll be around a lot more often if I get the deal for the shop,” he reassures her, and maybe himself too. He also thought about this a lot. “No getting rid of me that easily.”
She hums and shaves off a small part in the back of his neck, her fingers still gripping his hair to make sure he stays still. It’s by no means painful and Osamu can tell by the long pauses between her sentences that she’s focused, her thoughts hanging somewhere he can’t reach. She gets like this often and he wishes he could get a glimpse of everything going on in her head at times like these.
“I want to visit you in Osaka as well,” she admits, brushing bits of hair off his shoulders. “But I don’t have an upcoming job there in the near future.”
“You don’t need an occasion to visit me, y’know? Just wanting to see me can be enough.”
Osamu’s voice is quieter now, softer. He’s slowly melting under her touch and once again he wonders if this is heaven or hell. Her fingertips on his skin leave little fires everywhere. She stills, turning off the hair trimmer and setting it aside on the edge of the bathtub. Her hands linger in his hair a little longer before they settle on his broad shoulders.
“Okay. Yeah. That’s good. Because I really wanna see you,” she mutters and leans in a little closer, till her head comes to rest against his back. She sighs deeply and Osamu wants nothing more but to take her into his arms, but he senses that this is not the time, not yet. Not with all the things unsaid between them. So he sits perfectly still with his heart rattling against his ribcage and his hands remembering the shape of her, so close and yet so far away.
She whispers his name and everything inside of him crumbles.
He wants to turn around and see her, really see her, but he feels her silent pleading, the tremble of her hands, her shallow breath against his bare skin, and he knows that he can’t. He can’t. She’d slip through his fingers again like a ghost, leaving him with barely an echo. Maybe he has to learn to love her from afar.
Or so he thinks.
“I’m falling quite in love with you.”
Fuck.
Osamu lets out a shuddered breath, slumping forwards a little. Head in his hands. Her fingers trace down his spine, leaving a trail of heat where she touches him; like she’s lightning lampions inside his entire being. Letting the light in. It’s what she’s good at.
“And I’m scared–so, so scared–of admitting this,” she murmurs, and Osamu hears the slight tremble in her voice. “Scared of messing this up. Scared to wake up and see you gone. Just… terrified, really.”
Her arms wrap around him from behind, and Osamu’s hands fall from his face up to her wrists, holding onto her as if he was afraid she’d disappear again. Fingertips grazing over her pulse points, appreciating the warmth she radiates. She covers his eyes with her hands and leans forward, till her lips are close to his ear, her breath hot and heavy against his skin before she whispers.
“I don’t know how to love without fear but you make me want to try it anyway.”
Osamu swallows. Hard.
His throat feels dry, and he thinks that all this time, she has always been the braver one.
The one who let him see who she is and where she comes from so unabashedly. The one who held her crown up high when everything inside of her was falling apart. The one who allowed this romance to bloom between them despite everything.
She’s been there the whole time, asking to be loved. Sometimes hidden, sometimes cowering, sometimes masked to protect the tenderness of her heart; but always there. All he had to do was see her, recognize her and the love she was cradling in her hands, dripping from between her fingers, all spilled out.
He doesn’t mind the mess.
Osamu reaches for her, and this time she doesn’t push him away but follows his pull, till she’s straddling his lap on the bathroom floor and takes his breath away with the way she looks back at him. Pleading eyes, silently begging for something only he can give her. With one hand on her thigh, the other cupping her cheek, Osamu drinks her in. Like an angel, he thinks. Mine.
“I’m going to kiss you,” he announces, his voice is a little hoarse and her lips crack into a smile. One side of her face is nuzzled into his palm before his hand slides down her neck, back to the nape of it, pulling her closer till there’s merely an inch left between them.
“Yeah, as promised,” she mutters, glancing at him through long fluttering lashes. She’s still smiling and it’s stirring a fire inside of him. God. He needs to invent a way to freeze time because he wants to live in this moment forever.
“You’re sassing me,” Osamu huffs but there’s no bite behind it. He grins as well now. “I’m about to kiss you for the first time and you’re sassing me.”
She laughs softly and Osamu thinks that he wants to hear the sound of that forever, till the end of time. He wants to be the reason for it, too.
Osamu swallows the rest of her laughter when he closes the distance between their lips, kissing her with a gentleness only she could draw out of him. His heart hammers in his chest and every trail of thought he had until now dies down to a calm buzzing inside of him. Nothing matters but the girl in his lap, and her lips against his, and her ring size because surely he’s gonna make her his wife one day. There’s no doubt about that.
Her hands rest against his hips and the longer the kiss lasts, the more the tremble of them dies down and turns into something more cheeky as they trail up and down his side, thumbs drawing small circles against his hip bones. Osamu inhales sharply and pulls her closer, earning himself a small bite against his bottom lip when his hand on her thigh digs a little harder into her skin. He lets out a small husky laugh against her lips, before she’s kissing him again, an urgency behind it that only Osamu knows how to satiate.
Her lips part for him so willingly and it unravels something inside of Osamu.
“I’ve long fallen for you, y’know,” he murmurs between kisses, his hand tangled in her hair, tugging on it slightly to make sure she’s looking back at him. “Deeply, irrevocably, madly fallen for you.”
He was a fool for not kissing her sooner. He’ll make up for it plenty. After all, she’s the one who engraved her name into his entire being. His forehead rests against hers and he lets go of her thigh to take one of her hands, putting it over his heart. Letting her feel how it’s drumming her name, how it beats just for her in the soft, steady rhythm of his love.
“Be mine, will you?” “All yours. Always yours.”

so that happened
i waited half a year to write this scene and i know some of you waited half a year to read this so i hope i did you guys justice. thank you for reading soft launch. i feel like i don't say that often enough
miya kissers... yeah.
Omi took his job of shutting Atsumu up very seriously (5 dead, 37 injured, more details at 8)
y/n took the chance and texted Omi when Osamu went out to buy some 2am ice cream for them
he wore a cap because cutting hair is NOT y/n's strong suit
y/n is stronger than me because if Osamu was shirtless in my proximity i would've climbed this man like a cat tree
chat how do we feel about this chapter because i for my part died a little writing and posting this

Y/N "shoujo manga gave me unrealistic expectation of the beach" L/N and Osamu "i went to the beach and all i got was a rabies shot" Miya
they both have been really stretching the budget the agency gave them for ordering room service
Y/N painted two little onigiri on his fingernails. he tried a kitty for hers but it started looking a bit like a tanuki and it gave him war flashbacks so he painted it over
Konoha is still mildly suspicious of Y/N to this day and learned how to cook so Yukie won't leave him for her
Akaashi has already scheduled a room mates meeting in Y/N's bed for the day she returns from Okinawa
the kiss & tell groupchat was living off crumbs for the past couple of days until now. now it's kinda on fire
other matching things Osamu & Y/N bought: keychains, omamori, beach towels, salt & pepper shaker (one got the salt, one the pepper with the unspoken intention of marriage moving in together one day), tea cups from a small pottery store, prints from a local artist
only one more night they'll have together, what could possibly happen!

𝐒𝐎𝐅𝐓 𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐇 (𝐎𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐮 𝐱 𝐟!𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫) ❦ 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟏: 𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐠
♫ saturra - lovergirl
Would you be my lovergirl? We could run up against the world I don't wanna waste my time I just wanna lay with you
⭅ back to m.list

We don’t need memories.
It was only later in life that Osamu fully grasped the deeper meaning of Inarizaki’s volleyball club slogan. While he felt indifferent about it at best back then, in this very moment he wants to vehemently protest it. With her, he needs all the memories. He doesn’t want to miss a single second of it.
Of her.
Life takes some funny turns sometimes, he learned. One night he’s lying awake and scrolling through the blog of the most feisty and beautiful girl he ever laid his eyes on; then a heartbeat later he’s in the exact same spot, unable to fall asleep because the sheets smell so much like her, like the echo of a siren song calling out for him. Some nights it makes him feel like he’s losing his mind from all this unfamiliar yearning in the pits of his stomach.
He really tried to forget about how perfectly her sleeping form fitted into his side, with her face nuzzled in the crook of his neck, her breath steady and warm against him. Or the weight of her leg, thrown over his middle and trapping him in, all tangled up. Her fingertips dancing over the exposed skin of his hip bones before they come to rest against his side, just underneath the seam of his shirt where she slipped them so quietly, naturally, as if they had done this a thousand times before–
Osamu shakes his head in an attempt to dispel the vivid memory, like he wasn’t only a few minutes away from seeing her again. His girl. He’s blissfully ignoring the thundering drum of his heart and throws his backpack over one shoulder, his free hand dragging his luggage behind him.
He told her to wait in the car for him, knowing she hated crowds and would be overwhelmed easily trying to find him at the busiest station of the whole country. It was a compromise. You know, I can just take a cab from there and be with you in no time, he had told her over the phone to which she had let out a huff, as if it was the dumbest thing she ever heard. Don’t be silly, of course I’m coming to get you. You’d do the same, right?
She had a point. Osamu would walk to the end of earth if he knew she was waiting there for him.
Getting to her feels like crossing a maze; and he can’t help but think that this feels similar to conquering her heart, never knowing which turn to take but eventually every path leads to her. He reaches the highest deck of the parking garage, the sun in the zenit, but that’s not what’s blinding him.
Osamu sees her before she sees him. Inside of the parked car her eyes are on the rearview mirror, and from the distance he can’t tell if she’s reapplying her lip gloss (don’t think about kissing her, don’t think about kissing her…) or wiping crumbs from the corner of her mouth, evidence of that being the half eaten croissant on the passenger seat. When he gets closer he notices how she’s humming to the music playing from the radio, her fingers drumming against the steering wheel, windows rolled down, a small smile playing upon her lips. She looks peaceful, a little giddy even.
Their eyes meet through the rearview mirror and everything feels electric.
It’s Osamu who moves first, dropping his baggage to the ground and taking the last few steps till he’s at the driver’s door. She hasn’t moved yet, probably paralyzed by whatever anxious thought her brain was shooting at her in this moment, only slowly blinking at him when he reaches for the door handle.
As if she was in a dream. As if she was his dream.
Only when he opens the car door and holds out a hand for her she’s stirring back to reality. That’s when her lips curve into a smile again and her hand slips into his, so effortless as if it’s something they do on the regular. She says his name in the softest tone and Osamu thinks he never wanted to kiss someone so badly in his entire life.
His arms wrap around her when she stumbles out of the car, catching her in a warm embrace, and one heartbeat later her arms come around his middle, fingers twisting in his shirt as if she was afraid he’d slip away from her any second. Osamu lets out a quiet laugh and hugs her tighter against his chest, one hand coming up to the back of her neck, calloused fingertips brushing over her bare skin. He’s pretty sure she can feel the way his heart is about to crack his ribcage open, like a pair of hands opening up a pomegranate for her.
“Sorry I kept you waiting for so long.” I love you. “No worries, you didn’t. I listened to the playlist you sent me meanwhile. Was your trainride okay? Did you have enough to eat?” I love you. “Eh, it was fine. I saw a recipe online I think you’ll really like, I’ll show you when we’re home. Maybe we can try cooking it together while I’m here.” I love you. “Yeah! Fun. You must be hungry, I brought you an almond croissant from my favorite bakery.” I love you.
They pull apart, just enough to search each other’s gaze, and Osamu’s hands tremble slightly when he cradles her face with all the gentleness of the world. The words are lying on the tip of his tongue, sweet and alluring, and when she rests her hands on top of his he’s pretty sure he forgot how to breathe.
If Osamu was a braver man he’d kiss her right here, right now.
But his heart feels like it’s gonna burst at the seams just from thinking about it, so he pulls her closer again, his lips brushing against her temple. Innocent and yet so heavy with a promise. He knows she understood from the way she hugs him back, her hands now dancing across his back as if she wants to memorize the shape of him. His head comes to rest against hers and Osamu thinks this is the closest he’s ever gotten to holding the sun in his arms.
•┈••✦ 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥…
y/n couldn't control herself and ate half of the almond croissant she bought for Osamu (it's ok, they'll go get another treat later) (he would've done the same)
she did NOT let her intrusive thoughts win when she spotted Osamu in the rearview mirror
kiss & tell groupchat is about to go wild soon with all that kissing and telling on the horizon
y/n's room is at the end of the hallway with only Makki's room next to hers, so all hopes are on him to report anything back to the groupchat
when Osamu started the video call he was still at work but it was a quiet evening so they'd only get occassionally interrupted by an incoming order
all the staff said hi too when they saw the propped up phone, asking y/n when she'll be back
also upcoming beach episode? i'm sorry but this smau is basically me wrapping all of my shoujo romance dreams into one story
please know that Osamu completely forgot about the reason why he came to Toyko in the first place (viewing places to open a new Onigiri Miya branch) the second he laid his eyes on y/n
this boy invented being down bad

today i offer you down bad Osamu. tomorrow? probably the same
he will only get worse from here
Makki & y/n traveled a few days prior to the class reunion to Miyagi because it was also mama Hanamaki's birthday
y/n stayed in Makki's old bedroom (which is also partly her old bedroom) while Makki spent most night at Issei's, only the last night they huddled together in bed like in old times when they were teens and made plans to go to Tokyo together
you can hire Akaashi as your wedding planner but he's booked out till 2027 unfortunately
i think Omi-Omi needs his own SMAU soon because even i start feeling guilty for all this y/n yearning i put him through
also title mention?? idk how you guys feel but i always get a little giddy when a book i'm reading suddelny drops the title somewhere in a paragraph
