Cancer: You get emotional suppression, avoidance, and ignoring from this placement. There is something getting in the way of their nurturing side and maybe their own protective nature. The Cancer ascendant can have a nature that is more closed off and guarded. This person truly knows how to put up a wall. Emotional understanding, sympathy, allowing their feelings to flow, and letting their sensitivities permeate is important. Through the Cancer ascendant they can manage all of this. Finding security and reassurance in life can help them in overcoming challenges in the 12th House. Tapping into their nurturing and healing side will be greatly beneficial, they need to aim these talents at themselves. 

Leo: In the 12th Leo can shy away from their expression and creativity and they tend to struggle with self-esteem. As the ascendant Leo is bold, expressive, loud, and confident. What a conundrum. In theory this person can struggle with self-esteem and a desire for recognition greatly. They might desire recognition but then feel shame or distaste for this “urge”, thinking all they are after is “attention”. There is nothing wrong with wanting recognition, especially if it is for your deeds, talents, or even identity. The fear of expressing and exploring their creativity or leadership skills needs to be overcome by facing their fears, finally jumping in with their ascendant’s fire. 

Virgo: Doubt in talents and knowledge along with a fear of being useless combined with the ascendant’s criticism can be rough. At least the desire to serve and help can be closer to the surface with this combination. Humbleness can keep them content and away from looking at their hidden fears and practicality can distract them. A want to make a difference or to work can maybe set a direction for them to self-analyze + Virgo is the sign of analyzation. Just hope their critical eye notices and accepts the challenges of the 12th rather than get hung up on some other personal project. 

Libra: We see issues with self-love in the 12th and possible independence/dependence struggles. The ascendant can have insecurities around acceptance and admiration. I am going to bring in the descendant for a second, Aries, which can indicate someone who struggles with one-on-one relationships, giving in to others, and showing softness. I am mentioning all these elements because leaning on the Libra ascendant’s ability to adapt and cooperate can be key here. The Libra ascendant approaches the world as a place to relate to others, yet the Aries descendant is more focused on the self, their biggest struggle in relating to others is this self-involvement. Libra in the 12th has a need to learn what it means to love themselves, to love others, and to be free or learn to overcome and pass up toxic relationships. Here we see a large lesson revolving around loving the self and then giving an equal amount of love to others. 

Scorpio: Only the intensity of Scorpio can save this person from the dark depths of Scorpio. Scorpio in the 12th is very much known for indicating a lot of darkness and trauma in a past life or early life. It also is known for indicating hidden intense and/or dark emotions. I would not say that the Scorpio ascendant displays this darkness, in fact the ascendant is really good at hiding their darkness. The ascendant essentially aids the 12th House in all its hiding. But Scorpio in the 1st is out to master and understand the world and they can only do this once they master themselves. The journey inward typically starts young for them. Because there is a lot of subconscious secrecy here, this individual can find it hard to admit to themselves their downfalls, obsessions, and pain. A desire for understanding or to find an outlet for passion will eventually drive them to look deeper. 

Sagittarius: Disillusionment and recklessness can plague this person. The subconscious self wants stability and to define their beliefs. This person wants meaning in a chaotic world. The Sagittarius ascendant is carefree but hates to appear foolish. They leap before they look and doesn’t want to take life too seriously. But the Sagittarius ascendant is philosophical in their approach. So many things are based on experience. This person can develop their moral code purely based on experiences for a while but their intellectual side and pull towards what is right and wrong will likely pull them into analyzing their secret fears and issues. Capricorn: The 12th House can fear failure, doubt their ambition or ability to achieve, hate or fear responsibility, and they can struggle with finding their own authority or a sense of control. I would like to say this individual needs to give into the individualism and rebellious traits of their ascendant, but liberation for this person is going to always be either an explosion or something to fight for. A lot of people who worship chthonic deities such as Persephone, practice spirit work as well. You don’t have to do this, but I see it as a form of becoming closer with her and understanding her more. Synastry Series: Mercury Overlays

Mercury in the 1st house:

The Mercury brings in a nervous energy into the house person physically. The house person becomes communicative and jittery, like the Mercury person activated this nervous energy in them. The Mercury person feels like they can easily communicate with the house person for they feel like they express themselves in a way that opens a door for honest communication. Communication is well and active here. The house person becomes more talkative than usual.

Mercury in the 2nd house:

The Mercury person communicates in a way that is consistent with the house person. The Mercury person may bring up topics that can feed the house person’s self worth, saying things that can boost them in ways of communication about their worth. The two together become “money smart,” and make great business partners. The communication here can be stale, it’s not a negative overlay but the excitement and jitter of Mercury is toned down to earthy stableness, it’s just easy going and fulfilling.

Mercury in the 3rd house:

This is a great overlay for communication in general. The planet of communication in the house of communication. Lots of sparked long conversations. Witty banter and tricky inside jokes fly left and right with this overlay. A really active and flowing synastrtic energy. The Mercury person feels as if the way they communicate is welcomed and well perceived by the house person, and the house person is therefore more communicative and interactive in conversations.

Mercury in the 4th house:

A really hit or miss overlay, this can cause a bit of isssues or blissful nature concerning the house person’s emotions. The Mercury person may be able to use their words to soothe the house person’s emotional climate or they can cause more anxiety and frustration with over analyzation with their words. The house person’s psyche is greatly affected by the Mercury person’s thoughts and it can almost be receptive communication between the two. The house person almost knows what the Mercury person will say.

Mercury in the 5th house:

A very fun overlay, this one can really spark romantic/fun loving communication between two people. The Mercury person speaks to the house person’s idea center and can really help them spark their creativity with words. The communication here can be a little more on the ego centric side but this is a good way to know how the other thinks and not keep wondering. The house person is also really attracted to the house person’s way of communication and finds it admirable.

Mercury in the 6th house:

A favorable overlay for Mercury. The house person’s center of daily and mundane life activities/work place is now eased with the help of the Mercury person. The Mercury person is thoughtful of the ways the house person goes about their health and life and tries to guide them in the right direction with unsolicited advice. Communication on a daily basis is vital for the two or anxiety will be a bit of an issue. The house person also tries to impress the Mercury person in the ways that they advised them.

Mercury in the 7th house:

This is a perfect overlay for communication in partnerships. The Mercury person now activated the house person’s house of relationships. The house person starts to exceedingly think of the Mercury person and want a thriving level of communication. I like to call the Mercury person “the occupants” because that’s kind of what they are, they really occupy the thoughts of the house person and it’s a really sweet and tender level of communication between the two. Thinking of the other is a common trait in this overlay, so it’s a helpful and often easy going Mercury overlay.

Mercury in the 8th house:

A quite difficult position in synastry, this can really get the two psychologically connected to a deeper level. Communication seems difficult and heavy to the Mercury person as they try to communicate a lot of things the house person rejects or flat out hates talking about. It’s like the house person is a puzzle the Mercury person tries to solve. But it’s also a great way for the two to communicate boundaries, especially concerning sex and the taboo and even accumulate shared wealth and finances through communication. This can even go as far as to a great partners in crime type of energy. Secrets are well kept and hidden by the house person.

Mercury in the 9th house:

A slightly more complicated synastry than thought to be. Mercury isn’t the most comfortable near Jupiterian energy. The house person can be quite dismissive of the details of the communication that occurs, but rather synthesizes, which can either be irritating or comforting to the Mercury person. This can be an open door for two people to truly spiritually connect and communicate their beliefs. I see this a perfect teacher-student relationship, the way the Mercury person can communicate the details the house person can’t is fascinating.

Mercury in the 10th house:

This is the synastry of communicative success. The house person’s goals and future are really thought of more often and talked about. The Mercury person can be quite helpful in small ways to the house person’s public persona, maybe through rumors or something professional like advertising. The Mercury person provides a plethora of ideas for the house person’s possible future or ideals. It’s a great synastry for a professional boss-assistant relationship.

Mercury in the 11th house:

A wonderful synastry for friendly and open communication. The house person is an open and accepting vessel of communicative space for the Mercury person who feels like they truly are able to talk about anything and everything and not be torn. This is a common synastry between best friends and even online friends. The two really do enjoy the fun side of communication with lots of laughter and humor along the way. There’s not much the house person lays judgment on when it comes to talking to the Mercury person. The Mercury person feels they can really learn from the house person. Telepathic communication is often a big deal in this relationship.

Mercury in the 12th house:

A somewhat neutral to difficult synastry, depending on the house person. The Mercury person is the communicative one in this relationship. A lot of things the Mercury person says feel unheard by the house person, but the house person is scared for the Mercury person reveals parts they hide. This can turn ugly if the house person is uncomfortable, they can become unresponsive and suddenly ghost. The Mercury person feels they are speaking into a microphone that doesn’t work. The First House

Sun in Partner’s 1st House: you make me feel confident

This is a very optimal placement to have in Synastry. The two just get each other here. The Sun person admires and is attracted to the house person’s appearance and attitude. They like the way the house person operates, how they present themselves is really in alignment with the Sun’s ego and personality. The Sun is the brightest part of someone, so when this comes into in another person’s 1st house a spotlight is put on the house person. The house person feels really seen and noticed, they bask in the attention. In turn, the house person is warmed by the Sun’s admiration, making them feel a lot stronger and confident in the Sun’s presence. The two just have a lot in common with one another, they feel very safe to be themselves, the energy flows naturally between them. Overtime the two really grow one another’s self-esteem and confidence, making them feel powerful together. This is very much so a “let me upgrade you” kind of energy. 

Moon in Partner’s 1st House: you make me feel emotional

This aspects creates a real sense of familiarity between a pair in Synastry. A very, very great piece of Synastry to have. The Ascendant/First house of a person is someone’s main focus, it’s how they naturally function, how they instinctively act/feel. This house is how we are, and what we naturally project. Now the Moon is the inner most part of someone, their emotional needs and nature. The moon is who someone is on the inside, it’s more than how we are it’s who we are. So when someone’s moon comes into the first house of another, the moon gets to see who they are on the inside/their emotional needs reflected back to them by the house person. This creates a feeling of understanding. These two have finally found that person who just really empathizes them. A lot of the time conversations between these two have them consistently saying, “YES!” back and forth because they both know exactly how the other feels.  The house person’s actions is in great alignment with the moon person’s core. The moon can instinctively feel the house person’s actions and feelings making it very easy to decipher the needs of the house person and respond quickly, usually without a second thought and vice versa. The two can feel very comfortable and at home around one another. The bond between the two flows very easily as well as naturally. The moon person can make the house person feel very emotionally and physically safe. This overlay definitely is an indicator of physical attraction. The closer Venus is to the ascendant in this overlay intensifies the energy between the two. Venus highlights what we find attractive, what’s beautiful to us, our sensuality. The house persons physical body and looks is very appealing to the Venus person. The house person can look like the ideal mate Venus has been searching for. Here we can find what feels like a “Love at First Sight” meeting. The house person can turn into the Venus persons’s muse, embodying all the qualities Venus finds pleasurable. However, this can place a slight pressure on the house person to live up to and remain everything the Venus person likes: beautiful, charming, and pleasurable. Nobody feels like they’re all those things all the time, but with this overlay there can be this energy of having to be pleasant and alluring when in the presence of Venus. This is definitely an overlay that generates…..hEaT! Depending on how close Mars is to the house person’s Ascendant the two can actually feel physically warmer when around one another. This is one of the most natural astrological indicators of attraction in a synastry overlay. Why? Because Mars naturally rules the First house, so when these two meet they almost instantly take note of each other. Mars rules over physicality and the First house is the physical representation of the body (duhzzies, the First house is an extension of Mars’ energy)  so these two tend to react to each other on a very bodily level. There’s this incessant need to touch and get physical with one another, platonic and romantically. You can see this with individuals who like to play fight with another, or touch each other when they speak…their interactions typically always have a bit of a physical element to it. There can also be a hostile or combative energy surrounding their interactions especially upon meeting. These two can be prone to arguments as well as playful banter between them. The Mars person tends to feel really turned on by the House person and how they carry themselves and the way they present themselves to the world. whether this means you have the same rising, or rising conjunct rising or not, this is rather significant. when your ascendant falls in someone’s first house, they understand why you approach the world the way you do. they understand why you might put up a brave face, or a maternal attitude, or a mysterious aura, even if they themselves do not approach the world in the same way. you don’t have to explain yourself to this person.

ascendant in the second house 

the second house person is immediately into the ascendant person’s aesthetic. they may be drawn to the ascendant person’s style, beauty, and type of confidence. the second house person will easily build the ascendant person’s confidence, and may even be envious of them. they can bond over fashion & beauty trends they both enjoy, as well as art to a lesser extent. they can also take comfort in similar things; the second house person may bring out a more indulgent side of the ascendant person.

ascendant in the third house

the ascendant person may remind the third house person of their siblings. there is an often times easy rapport and the third house person can get the ascendant person to open up quicker than most others would. there is a common, at least surface level, interest in what the two find interesting and talk-worthy. 

ascendant in the fourth house 

the ascendant person may remind the fourth house person of their childhood; it can be a very nostalgic, unexplainable feeling being around them. the two are likely to be comfortably around each other quickly and can form an easy emotional bond. sometimes, the reminder of their childhood can be unpleasant for the fourth house person and thus they may not enjoy this overlay at all; it may be hard for them to be around the ascendant person. these two are not likely to change each other profoundly, rather reinforce, for the better or worse, traits and beliefs they already had.

likely to be a romantic attraction! the fifth house person is likely to take immediate interest in the ascendant person. in theory, the ascendant person is their ideal romantic type. but it’s the ascendant and appearances can be deceptive. either way, it is likely these two can have a lot of fun together. the fifth house person will likely boost the ascendant person’s ego, sometimes to the point they put them on a pedestal and don’t receive the same admiration in return. 

ascendant in the sixth house

this can indicate an easy time working or cohabiting in some form together. they may be ideal roommates for each other, ideal coworkers. there is also a possibility of the ascendant person adding stress or tension to the sixth house person’s routine. 

ascendant in the seventh house

not instant heart eyes, like the fifth house, but these two often cannot stay away from each other. at first, there can be a feeling of uncomfortability or even disgust. this person seems to represent everything the seventh house person cannot understand and does not like, but they are often a presence they need. slow romantic and sexual feelings for one another can build. 

ascendant in the eighth house

the eighth house person is likely to be uncomfortable around the ascendant person, at least at first. the ascendant person puts out into the world what the eighth house person locks away from the world, so they can easily feel embarrassed and exposed around the ascendant person. however, the two can learn a lot from each other. the ascendant person can open up the eighth house person, getting them to talk about things they consider taboo (but also want to talk about). the eighth house person can help the ascendant person see the complexity and depth of themes the ascendant person likely takes for granted or does not think a lot about.

could talk for hours about their worldview. at least on the surface, the ascendant person sees the world rather similarly to how the ninth house person does. they get excited about similar things. the ninth house person can get the ascendant person to dig deeper and philosophize their world view, ask why. the ascendant person can inspire the ninth house person to make their dreams a reality. could be really good travel buddies.

ascendant in the tenth house

very, very similar approaches to the world. the tenth house person may envy the ascendant person; the ascendant person may be exactly how the tenth house person wants to be. they often agree on a lot and can have similar career interests and pursuits. 

ascendant in the eleventh house

the eleventh house person may feel quickly that they want the ascendant person to be their friend. the ascendant person often also enjoys the eleventh house person, who is likely to embody their eleventh house traits around the ascendant person. a friendship is likely to form, but the ascendant person may turn out to be someone different than the eleventh house person thought.

ascendant in the twelfth house

these two are probably the least likely to click on first meet of all the overlays, unless the twelfth house person has benefic planets in their house or a lot of positive aspects to their twelfth house. either way though, these two enjoying each other is rare and a great thing. the ascendant person can, over time, get the twelfth house person to embrace what they enjoy but are embarrassed of, they can also open them up spiritually, getting them to examine their dreams and subconscious desires. the ascendant house person may exploit the twelfth house person or feel superior because they embrace what the twelfth house person is afraid to, so watch out for negative manifestations.

The Signs & Their Restrictions
