albert was mostly standoffish at the umbrella training school. he saw himself above all of his peers (what he had with william was a little more complicated). using his brains over any sort of heart or emotion got him to where he was, fighting william for the #1 spot in class.

but i also think that he made a small minuscule effort to get along with other people as an exercise in being social, at the request of spencer
