I'm a bit confused by the plot! it's written beautifully but i don't get it? can you guys like give a run down of the plot and like what it's about? like i would try to narrow down my question, but i don't get it at all, so like from start to finish can y'all break the plot down for a dummy like me pls :)

So basically there is another dimension, called the Summerlands. In that dimension/world are all the different nations/areas that are represented in Studio Ghibli movies. Kind of like a world of fairytales except its Studio Ghibli. An evil spirit of decay and corruption (think the bad stuff in Princess Mononoke) begins to spread across the world. They can't stop it, so they have to run away. With magic, many people escape to the Spirit World, where the Bathhouse from Spirited Away is located. Realizing that their spirit world isn't safe either, they open a portal into our dimension, which happens to come out on top of Mt. Halla on Jeju island. So then everyone who has time to escape goes through that portal, where they gain new bodies suited to this dimension via magic. Now they're all stuck here, in Jeju, with only a tiny bit of magic left, trying to figure out life. If you’ve seen/heard of the comics Fables, it’s similar to that wherein these characters are considered real but had to relocate and remain under cover on Earth. Hopefully that helps, if you still have question we’ll be here!

No maximums or limitations, just so long as you get your point across and give us all the important details clearly and concisely you’re good to go! Just, maybe don’t throw us a 10k novella, if you don’t mind. It might take us awhile to get through.

how much did each like, canon place know about the spirit of decay? how many people could get to the bathhouse to escape?

That’ll depend on the place. Highly developed nations/areas with high levels of science/technology/etc tend to be closed off to the other areas of the Summerlands, thinking them superstitious or backwards, etc. As a result, this is why there’s so little awareness of the spirit world/natural spirits/magic/etc in the case of, say, Chihiro during her time before entering the spirit world, or the events of Only Yesterday. Basically, if your character comes from a land that is on the anthology page listed as a parallel to Tokyo or modern Japan, they’d have very little awareness of what was happening. This means their escape was likely pretty “accidental,” a case of being in the right place int he right time to sort of stumble into the pathway that would take them from this world into the spirit world, and then into  the path to Jeju. The other nations really did try to get the more close minded folks on board, but when the governments were skeptical and preoccupied with their own political concerns, the witches and wizards and spirits worked to, on the day of the escape, open as many conduits/gates into the spirit world (across all of the Summerlands) as possible, hoping people would stumble through and be able to escape with them. Which means your muse likely lost their friends, family, etc, as they might not have been as lucky. Uh oh, survivors guilt! If your muse was an average joe sort running around Ingary (Howl’s Moving Castle) or living in Irontown (Mononoke) or the village in Ponyo, they would have been alerted by their governing bodies of the things that were occuring, the threat to the land, and the eventual attempts to leave. Not everyone would have been able to make it for various reasons (distance, health, skepticism, etc) but they would at least have had an idea of what was going on.

if the character that we choose in unnamed or doesn't exist in the original film, should we create a name for them / more discernible character off of what is known? kinda acting as if their lives had been in the film?

Yes, absolutely! To answer through example; say I choose to reserve Im Jinah as a Byakko spirit, from Spirited Away. In that instance, in my before section, I would explain who she was in that world, at that time. The spirit world is separate, in the Summerlands, so I would talk about how she didn’t know about all the strange and terrible things happening in the human half of the world until all the refugees from the decay were forced to hide in the Spirit realm, at the bathhouse. Maybe I would talk about how she worked at the bath house, or in the food stalls and surrounding area that we see, or even suggest that she lived in one of those small little towns / areas that seemed to exist off the train line. Since Spirited Away is pretty vague in world building, I’d probably keep these elements either centered to what we know about directly in  the movie (Bathhouse, gatherings of spirits, etc) or make it a little plain and vague (small town dreamer, saving up for tickets for the train, wanted to visit the famous bathhouse and try to get a job there, was on her way to that place when the decay was spreading and everyone had to flee to Jeju, ended up in Jeju because of that, feels guilting that her parents/friends/sister didn’t make it through, etc). Hopefully that makes some sense!

are we allowed to play made up spirits or gods that would fit the spirited away realm but aren't exactly original characters from the film?

Not only are you allowed to play created spirits from the Spirited Away realm, but you’re allowed to do the same for ANY realm within the Studio Ghibli canon. We would obviously caution you against creating a spirit that is in some way ultra super powerful or ultra super important, in this respect (since, then, they’d probably have been in the film, right?) but it gives plenty of room for you to play, say, the god of foxes or rabbits or deer from Princess Mononoke, the spirit/dragon of the river of your choice from Spirited Away, one of the royal courtiers from Howl’s Moving Castle, a byakko (white fox spirit that brings happiness) similar to Lin/Rin in Spirited Away, or even one of the mystical people who lived on the moon of the Summerlands, from the Tale of Princess Kaguya and so on. Some things are not duplicatable, like a person from the moon who goes to earth, or a fallen star like Calcifer that survives, since the way those things happened is noted to be particularly rare if not unique to that spirit in canon, but for the most part there are a ton of options! We compiled a whole bunch of explanation and suggestions about this on our ANTHOLOGY page so you should definitely go give that a look!

Ha! You bet it is. See, tumblr likes to do this thing where they lock you out of the tags when you first create a blog, just in case you’re a bot or something. Which means RP blogs can have one heck of a time getting tags to show up. What you see there is our 2/3 day attempt to make that happen, after which point we finally gave up and moved the main to a blog one of the admins had that was no longer in use and WAS visible in the tags. since their characters had names but we need oc ethnicity matched names, how would that work?

Great question! So the ethnicity thing is a little tricky and mostly there because, lets face it, people can get pretty up in arms about that kind of thing and we’d hate to step on toes. Plus, think of it this way- the first thing you want to do to fit in in a new dimension is to make sure to minimize your visible differences. A full blooded Korean (considering the new bodies they’ve got) running around with the name ‘Zeniba” is probably going to draw some attention. You’re more than welcome to, when naming your character, go in a few different directions. You could use a Korean name that sounds a bit similar, for instance, or you could use one that’s totally different that you just happen to like. Additionally, as far as how they call one another, that’ll come down to personal preference. I think there’s a very big psychological divide happening here, dealing with trying to force quick adaptation to this new world, new body, new country, new home, new jobs, etc. As a result I think many might really push to use their new names just to help signify that adjustment, but of course that’ll be up to your muse in a lot of ways.

who are your most wanted??

SO many, since we’re brand new! For faces, we would love to see the boys of SHINee (especially Taemin, who we already know loves Howl’s Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke, right?~). We’d love to see all of Infinite, more of BTS of course, as well as the Exo boys! For girls…. all of them. All of the girls! Blackpink Rose or Jisoo, Red Velvet Irene, SNSD Seohyun (would make a great Princess Kaguya!) or Taeyeon, F(x) in its entirety (Victoria as Lady Eboshi would be gorgeous). Yeri would make a beautiful Marnie from When Marnie Was Here (and who wouldn’t want to be a beautiful former-ghost!), and Wendy is known to be a Ghibli fan (that no face costume was great, right?) and would fit in wonderfully. The girls of Oh My Girl also have a lot of great teaser and other visuals that might help you get some muse going.In terms of spirits we’d love to see, I personally am hoping for some kodama or dragon spirits. It’d be amazing to see Moro the wolf goddess from Mononoke, as well as Yubaba or Zeniba. Porco Rosso has a stunning bounty hunter if you’re into a muse like that, as well, which would be terribly fun.
