“Yea,” Cody hummed, “Once he got his wits ‘bout him, he was pretty wise.” It was quiet as Cody listened to Bellamy speak. He nodded a few times, but he was mostly focused on fixing the violin. The sounds of the grit against the wood was simultaneously the best and worst sound he had ever heard, ignoring the tingles it sent up his spine to hear it. “Ma believes tha’ too. Always did. Made a lot o’ things confusin’ when I was young, but now tha’ I’m older, I can make those connections.”
He stopped sanding for a second, a tiny laugh making its way out. “It’s funny how life works sometimes. I don’ think I would know ‘alf the people in my life if it weren’ for how my relationship with my parents was.”
A panicked young man wanders into the shop, blue eyes widened in anxious fear as he scrambles across the store towards the woodworking tools with a bundle clutched tight to his chest. -Bellamy <3
// @sharkface-ooh-ha-ha "Whoa-" Cody watches the man as he crosses the shop, the sound of the door bell ringing by the time he had made it halfway across. He was clearly panicked from the way he moved. Cody frowned, moving from behind the counter towards him. "Excuse me, are you alright? Can I help you wit' anythin'?"

“Oh!” Sunmi paused, thinking for a second. “Here, put it down on the floor for a second so I can look through it.” She moved out of the way so he could come inside, watching as he placed the box down in her hallway. “I know the hospital won’t take clothes because it can hold onto stuff, but if there’s books, games, they can use those in the childcare center.” She picked up a shirt, glancing at it and smiling at the pun on it with a fondness in her eyes. “I know they’ll take blankets though; the process for cleaning them is different than it would be for clothes.”
"Hey, Sunmi? You home?" Charlie stood outside her front door, a box in his hands that made it difficult to try knocking. He gently kicked the bottom of the door with his foot and stepped back to wait, hoping she didn't mind him stopping by with no notice.
Sunmi glanced towards the door, her mood brightening immediately. She put down her book, clambering over the back of her couch to open the door for him. “Yeah,” she called, reaching the door and pulling it open. She held the door open further upon seeing the box in his arms, though she didn’t know what was in it considering she just barely reached the top of the box at her height. “What’s with the box?”

“I think... with mos’ people, they don’t deserve what happens to them in their lifetimes,” he whispered, rolling backwards with the chair to grab the wood from the wall; small fragments left over from previous projects and the perfect size for the crack in the violin.
“It’s part o’ why happiness is the biggest goal for some. It’s mos’ly fleeting, but to hol’ onto it is anoth’r task all together,” he said, lining things up, pressing things down, and sanding it once again. “My da’ knew tha’. I’m glad tha’ he got what he wanted at the end, though.”

He paused in the middle of cutting the strings; he wasn’t expecting the guy to be a widower. He resumed as soon as he realized he had stopped, working back on gaining access to the crack across the body of the violin. He didn’t particularly like the sound the strings made when he cut them, but he had extra ones in the front of the shop.
“Well, Bellamy Locke, your father-in-law was smart,” he said, sanding down the crack to keep it flat for when he used the wood glue. “But, even bein’ alone, there’s small thing’s to make the blue world a little yellower… Sounds like tha’s music for ye.”

question 2 my followers: what’s the most obscure piece of media you’ve ever developed a fixation with? not obscure as in “at one point had a reasonably thriving fandom that eventually faded” but something you feel you were almost entirely alone in your appreciation for

Cody placed everything neatly on the table, glancing at the other to make sure he was okay. “Could ye place the violin on the table?” he said, gesturing to the seat across the table as a sign for the smaller to sit down. “It’d be helpful if ye could tell me specifics. Type of wood, string type, y’know.” Cody sat down on one side of the table, rolling in the chair to scan the types of wood he had sitting behind him on the wall. He grabbed a couple tools, spinning on the chair to place them on the table and pulling the violin closer to him when it gets set down.
“Any stories ye got o’ it would be great too,” he said, looking up at the guy. He never did like working in silence, and he enjoyed stories a lot, so if he could get someone talking… he would listen.

Cody took a deep breath and settled himself. If he couldn’t fix it in time for the competition, it wasn’t the end of the world for the man, but if there was a chance… He placed a hand on the man’s shoulder, patting once in an effort to comfort. Grounding.. that was a thing wasn’t it?
“I’m gonna try and fix it, so let’s see wha’ I can do, yeah?” He looked up at his shop, glancing at a couple of bins along the walls. He needed those things to do this. Giving people tasks to distract them was a way to calm them down, he knew that much. “Do ye think ye can take the violin to the back room for me? Ye don’t have to move yet if ye don’t want to, but it’ll help it get fixed fast’r.” Giving him back the violin, Cody pointed towards the beaded curtain hanging from the doorframe behind the counter. He moved behind the counter, placing the violin on it and crouching behind it. He was quick to look up what he needed to know, and even quicker to learn it. Grabbing a couple things while he was down there, he stood back up. He was quick to grab the things he needed from the store, and bringing the objects with him to the back table.

He stared at the violin for a second; at the neck that was dangling from the strings that no longer were taut, the bow, the body of the instrument that looked as though someone had stepped through it. “This was definitely not an accident.” Cody took it in his hands, breathing out very slow as he better assessed the state of the poor instrument. While music wasn’t his thing, he held a strong appreciation for instruments, and their musicians. They usually held great regard for instruments, both theirs and others, but this was clearly some act of revenge or defiance.
“Do ye have another violin ye can use if I can’ get this one fixed in time?” He asked, looking at the man and hoping he’d say yes. He didn’t know if he could fix it in time for the competition, it was so damaged… It would take a trained luthier at least a full day to do if they wanted to get it back to how it was before. And he didn’t have much experience fixing violins.
But he knew he had the tools and equipment, so he wanted to try; even if he had to look up a couple tutorials for it…

honestly it’s whatever
Sunmi rushed, her coat billowing behind her as the wind passed by her. Her phone was in her hand, her eyes caught on the texts that were on the screen. In all honesty, she was overthinking the texts that her friend had sent her. She worried about him a lot more than he wanted her to, but after everything, how was she supposed to just up and stop worrying, stop remembering to check up on him? She didn’t think she could, honestly. The papers in her other hand rustled as she walked, her attention diverted to the wrong thing considering she walked directly into a person.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry,” she said, crouching immediately to the ground to pick up the things that were dropped.
“It’s whatever, don’t worry about it,” said the woman, dropping down to help her pick up her papers that were trying very hard to be blown away in the wind. Sunmi looked up and paused. She’d seen this woman more than a couple times before in the hospital hallways, and as a patient.
“You’re that cop,” Sunmi said, immediately covering her mouth. “That was so rude, I’m sorry.” The woman stood up slowly, cautiously, and Sunmi followed her upwards, extending her hand. “My name is Sunmi Kim, I work at the hospital. I think I’ve been your nurse a couple times.”
The woman’s face lit up with recognition. “Oh yeah. I think you have,” she took Sunmi’s hand, shaking firmly. “Elena Deller, nice to officially meet you.”
“I’m so sorry again about running into you,” Sunmi apologized, exchanging mismatched items with her. “I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
“No, honestly. It’s whatever. I wasn’t exactly looking out either,” Elena said, waving her off, Sunmi’s eyes catching on the ring on her hand. “Should probably be more careful anyways.”
“Yeah... Your ring is gorgeous,” blurted out Sunmi, staring at it. She’d never seen that design before on a ring, but it was absolutely stunning. Elena instantly brightened up, smiling and lifting her hand to look at her ring. She looked at it with so much bliss in her eyes that it made Sunmi almost jealous.
“Thanks. He did a good job of picking it out, that’s for sure. Was actually on my way to meet him,” Elena said, gesturing in the direction she had been heading and Sunmi had been leaving from.
“Well, I hope you get there safely, sounds like you’ve got a lot to look forward to.” Sunmi was happy for her, albeit a little sad for herself.  “Oh yeah, definitely. It’s a lot of work, but it’ll be worth it. “I’m definitely gonna be safer on the job from now on.” A quick wave and goodbye and Elena was on her way. Sunmi watched her as she walked off for a minute, before humming to herself and turning back towards the direction of Charlie’s house, as her phone rang.
She smiled, picking up and assuring the man on the other end that she was almost there.
