I have some news for members of the united states armed forces who feel like they are pawns in a political game and their assignments being unnecessary.

I know Iām never on, but I encourage all of you to watch and share this video as much as possible. This is an Australian reporter covering the LA protests. You can see, on camera, the cop turn and purposely aim at her before firing. This narrative that itās all the protestors is a clear lie.

United Healthcare getting sued by its investors, because it didn't warn them that the CEO getting murdered (by the tendrils of their unmitigated greed) was going to lead to them approving more claims (for covered services that they had no right to deny) is a cartoonish example of exactly why their CEO got murdered.
Their argument is essentially "You promised us a specific profit margin that is not possible to achieve under this increased public scrutiny of your unethical practices. We only agreed to invest because of those unethical practices. So we demand compensation because you didn't warn us that you'd be behaving more ethically"
And idk. Satire isn't just dead. We've pissed on its corpse and now it's dissolving in lye.

How come you're all about "feminism" until it's time to protest? We haven't seen you make a single fucking post about the LA riots and it's really disappointing.
Hi friends. This is your reminder not to reply to questions like this. You do not need to self-report your behavior. This is a guilt trip designed to make you violate your own Miranda rights.
Also, they are not riots (Freudian slip, fed?), they're peaceful protests and are a democratic right under the first amendment.
where to find your local protest donate to legal funds my local immigrant support network
be safe out there, i love you.

i get that americans love their cultural imperialism, but it really does piss me off that june is āinternationalā pride month just because something happened in the united states.
in aotearoa, june isnāt our pride, itās theirs. martha p johnson and sylvia rivera are their historical figures, not ours. the phrase that āyou owe your rights to Black trans womenā is true there, but here we owe our rights to (mostly) MÄori historical figures. i have the freedoms i do because of the legacy of an entirely different set of people operating in an entirely different context at entirely different times.
But because of american cultural imperialism, most queer people in Aotearoa donāt even know our own queer history. Carmen Rupe, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, the Dorian Society, Gillian Laundon, Georgina Beyer, and the Wolfenden Association are some of our queer history. We should know their names! we should know what they did for us! but because of the power of the american imperial machine, we donāt.
our national pride month should be july, the month that the Homosexual Law Reform Act passed in 1989. our two largest cities hold their pride festivals in february and march, respectively. american queer history has very little (or nothing, depending on who you ask) to do with our queer history. anecdotally, from my own queries, queer youth in aotearoa know more about american queer history than our own.
anyway, happy pride, americans. iām truly sorry that most of you donāt see the negative impact your nationās culture has on the rest of the world. and to the rest of the world reading this, try searching for your own country and cultureās queer history, donāt accept the american narratives as your own. we deserve our own histories divorced from the cultural hegemony of the USA.

itās crazy how different you get treated in a mask but what really gets me is that when people ask why Iām masking, Iāve stopped saying Iām immunodeficient and started saying I have an immunodeficient family member at home. I am not exaggerating when I tell you this has 100% improved every single encounter Iāve had with anti-maskers. iām not exaggerating in the slightest.
i used to tell people iām immunodeficient and theyād ask invasive questions about my diagnosis, whether my parents kept my childhood overly sterile, whether I was vaccinated as a child (with the implication that it would have been bad if I were).
Now that I say I have an immunodeficient family member at home, people smile knowingly and say, āoh, well you do what you have to do,ā and āmy mom went through chemo. I remember how hard it was to do all the precautionsā and āthatās so kind of you.ā
if i tell someone i mask because iām disabled, iām assumed to be the weak link in our society, a burden to my family.
if i tell someone i mask to protect a disabled family member, i become the burdened, compassionate caretaker deserving of sympathy. how sad that i must limit myself to protect someone i love. how heroic that i choose to do so.

does anyone have that quote that goes something like 'white germans under the nazis lived just fine as long as they were loyal to the state, gave their children to the army, and paid their taxes, and in this sense many americans would be comfortable living under fascism' trying to find who said it but google is giving me jack shit

it turns out a lot of people are actually on the same page about whether or not they'd work if they didn't have to earn money, we just all seem to have wildly different definitions of what counts as work. i'll see one person say "of course i would, i'd still want to create art and volunteer in my local community" and another say "hell no i wouldn't, i'd quit work and just create art and volunteer in my local community" and then they look at eachother like they said something incomprehensible.

Just to keep everyone here aware:
Shit's going down in Los Angeles area.
What happened is that there was already protests against the ICE detention facilities, and ICE made the brilliant move of kidnapping the leader of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Protestors started pushing their non-violent actions, with ZERO weaponry, and ICE has begun firing teargas and rubber bullets (which can be fatal). Tonight they are bringing in the NATIONAL GUARD.
Meanwhile, they're stepping up kidnappings and "deportations"--If you dont have your papers and you live in southern california I'd avoid leaving your house. If you're a citizen, keep your papers on you as you leave.
And if you're one of the brave people fighting this gestapo, PLEASE DO SO SAFELY!!! Dont use milk to rinse out teargas or pepper spray, it can cause infections with the bacteria in it!!!! Use water!!!! Tell someone where you're going, but leave your phone at home unless you're there to document. If you are there to document, DONT SHARE PROTESTORS FACES OR IDENTIFYING FEATURES on social media!!!! And for fucks sake, WRITE A LAWYER PHONE NUMBER ON YOUR BODY WITH SHARPIE, trust me, it could save your ass.

As someone who would rather cut off my own limb than talk on the phone, I do not say this lightly. Now is the time to conquer our phone anxieties!
Amongst huge cuts to social programs that benefit millions of Americans, like medicaid and SNAP, the Big Beautiful Bill also includes provisions that will cut billions to student aid, cuts to the Federal Employee Retirement System, cut funding for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and ban states from regulating AI for the next decade.
This will add trillions of dollars to the debt, and all to pay for tax cuts that benefit the wealthiest in our country.

What's frustrating about the Musk and Trump thing is that. Like.
It's a distraction.
Trump cancelling the subsidies to electric cars was a campaign promise. That was basically announced months ago, I think Musk just didn't expect Trump to go through with it
And Musk saying Trump is in the Epstein files, is like. We knew. The files are everyone that Epstein associated with, and Trump has photos with the guy. We all knew.
I mean, it's a lot of flash, but to me it does feel like a bit of a nothingburger?
It feels like a distraction.
Even if the emotions are genuine, Trump might be getting encouragement to blow up the relationship so that people are distracted from the many real problems of the Big Beautiful Bill. And also so that the Left feels like there's momentum on Damaging The Right As A Cohesive Block.
So we're distracted, instead of:
Noticing how many Republicans are saying "I wouldn't have voted yes if I'd actually read the BBB"
Paying attention to the new travel ban
Recognizing that this isn't really moving anything
Calling our senators about the insanely stupid tax breaks in the BBB
And any number of other government actions that are shaping up to have real and lasting impacts on us

Trump planned this in advance. ICE were pre-positioned there in advance in large numbers, with armored vehicles, and full battle gear. They unnecessarily used provocative tactics while bursting into businesses such as throwing flash-bang grenades at onlookers and then pepper spraying them while they were looking for undocumented people. Administrators from Homeland Security and ICE were also there ahead of time. Further Trump had the order to mobilize the National Guard ready to go before the action began. Marines from Camp Pendleton also were on alert for possible deployment.
Youāll also notice nobody is talking about the Big Ugly Bill that calls for Medicaid cuts. Everyone also stopped talking about Elon Musksā claim that Trump is on the Epstein client list. Also Trumpās second Muslim Ban has barely got a mention in the press.
