Utana Yoshida & Masaya Morita will be performing in Dreams on Ice June 27-29 in Yokohama, Japan which has pretty much the entire current national team minus Miura/Kihara in the cast. they have a Grand Prix event worth of singles skaters just from 馃嚡馃嚨, pretty stellar lineup
this is cute that CPom and Samantha/Daniel did the move from their RD with them

Gabi P stories
someone as candid and eloquent as her writing a book? yes please. i hope it's a memoir
also, you watch these ogm athletes - they're all master manifesters - sometimes they manifest their goals and dreams, sometimes they manifest their fears. your thoughts and vision can create your reality

Paul McIntosh teaching the cutest baby dance team - he's so good with them. he's the coach VM woke up before dawn to drive to Waterloo for, after they started to need more than the Ilderton rink could offer. they were older than these kids, but not by much - they were 8 and 10 when they started with him and Suzanne Killing-Wood

Kaori Sakamoto announced she's retiring after the Olympic season. this makes me sad. grateful to her, but 馃槶
each skater should have the goodbye they want, but when they announce like this, it gives every skate from here on out extra weight. gives the crowd the chance to show their love, too

4 men, 3 women, only 1 dance team and pairs team listed - no CPom by name? tickets are $43.50 and $118.50 but there are no bad seats in that rink

this just came up on my IG tl - i thought lifting your partner with your arms fully extended above your head was illegal - is *sustained* the operative word here, that because it happens for a split second, it got a pass?
Tumblr media
i don't really get what this caveat in the parentheses means either 馃槄 my anon who said the ISU needs to hire technical writers to clarify the language in their communications 馃憤 - probably would make coaches and choreographers's lives easier every year

Tessa being interviewed by Ryan Colpitts, a Special Olympics athlete in softball and basketball who also works for Special Olympics Ontario - they seem to know each other from Motionball and other Special Olympics events. he's wrapping up his podcast, and this is the final episode
the conversation about her career covers ground she's talked about many times but also has tiny new bits or things said a different way - he asks about her passion for the sport - she answers that her number one passion is dance and that she likes to compete, and skating combined the two. (i wonder if she still takes dance classes at all)
the host keeps listing her accolades in long lists - not sure if we've ever seen her sit through them to this extent 馃槄 he asks who on their travels was the better DJ, and she says Scott. the part after i don't quite understand lol
i think he's the one who taught me the power and the importance of being a good co-pilot though. you know, like you need someone in the seat next to you opening your snacks. you know you need the drink in the right place you need the temperature control you need someone who's got your back in the front seat and who's aware, and he taught me how to do that
sounds like this could have just been a playful thing between them, but it's hard to tell from her tone and the words power and importance if she means it literally or metaphorically - unwrapping snacks and riding shotgun don't seem like something to learn馃槄
he asks about her work with Special Olympics, and when he mentions spending time with the athletes, it feels like it genuinely lights her up. (and like she's happy to talk about something not her career - her sitting through the list of halls of fame she's in looks particularly like an exercise in patience)
words of wisdom for younger skaters who want to "get out there": "find your purpose, find your voice, and find your people -
if you can rally around something that means something to you and set some tangible goals around a purpose, that's a great sort of indicator for success and enjoyment more than anything finding the right humans to support you along the way, and then really staying true to your own values, and always feeling like you have the space to stand up for yourself and be yourself, knowing that that uniqueness is often what is a differentiator in a really positive way. i think that's what i wish that i knew earlier and something that i love to share with others"

this list for Championnats updated already, adding Nguyen/Giang to Gauthier/Thieren - both newly senior, and another of the younger IAM senior Canadian teams. the early head to head between Lauriault/LeGac and Fabbri/Ayer who are competing for Canada #3 for Milan plus first chance to see Reed/Ambrulevicius and Harris/Chan are the headlines
looks like IAMO is going to Skate Ontario sectionals in August again instead of doing camp in Montreal, maybe?

they were so good! they're only juniors here - the intensity and flow, the musicality - they're so dynamic. commentators often wanted Zak to give more face back then, but he's very expressive in his movement and has beautiful extension. so much of what's special about them is already there. they were 18/19 yo
tells you they had their eye on the next thing that she lent this dress to Layla Veillon - she won junior worlds in it, but she's not precious about it

Avonley and Vadym won the following season. Demougeot/Le Mercier and Fabbri/Ayer were ahead of Lopareva/Brissaud back then. Caroline Green was still skating with her brother
youtube
this one is the Canadian broadcast, with Carol Lane commentating- they showed LaLa's skate again, after they'd won
it's such an effective program - they haven't skated to classical since. i wonder if they will again
i don鈥檛 know what you call this first move, but it looks like ballet鉂わ笍

Dune was Olivia's idea - they watched it with Sam to decide. she talks about working with Madison on the 2nd version of her costume and mentions Madison was also involved in designing the great green Zorro dress in 2022
they both want the RD to move back in a classic direction - she'd like to skate a Golden Waltz someday - and he'd like an RD where you can really compare skating skills

Stepanova/Bukin got plenty of praise for their R&J, Anissina/Peizerat were 23/26 for their R&J that got them the Olympic bronze and imo didnt have a typical youthful innocent vibe of like H/B. H/D's program did get criticism over their age but honestly had the program been better I don't think there would have been much talk about it, but I remember it being kind of meh?
yeah, you're very right that if it was stellar and convincing enough, nobody would have cared. when you're playing specific characters it opens you up to criticism if you don't nail the program. it just seems like an extra risk with this particular story, this particular season for this team and the race they're in
