Database

HL7

HL7 (Health Level 7) is an internationally used standard to exchange clinical and administrative data between health care entities. Interoperable systems play major role in providing efficient care. HL7 standards offer economical solutions pertaining to healthcare. Messages and documents are transmitted in a minimum lower layer protocol and supported by legacy systems for decades.

HL7 Version 2 standard is the most widely implemented standard in health care domain. It is supported by majority of the common interfaces because of its simplicity, cost effective and backward compatible framework. HL7 Version 3 provides Reference Information Model (RIM), a more sophisticated architecture to exchange documents and history of the patient. WBC supports both versions of HL7 and integrate legacy systems, Electronic Medical Records, Lab Information Systems.

EDI

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) has been in practice since 1980s. It establishes the commercial data exchange between two entities. It is one of the rigorous format of electronic documents available today. Some standards address specific needs of an industry or region. The commonly available standards are X12, EDIFACT, ODETTE, EDIBDB, CEFIC.

We, at WBC have been working in X12 predominant environment for the past few years. We helped clients to exchange Eligibility, Coverage or Benefit Inquiry/Information (270/271), Health Care Claim Status Request/Notification (276/277), Medical Event Reporting (500), Health Care Claim Payment/Advice (835). We do support other data interchange formats including customization and transformation from one to other.

CCR/CCD

Continuity of Care Document (CCD) and Continuity of Care Record (CCR) are standards used to transmit health care information to other health care professionals in a timely manner allowing them to work with the data critical to effectively continue care. They reduce human errors while improving continuity. The electronic transmission contains the core information including administrative, demographic and clinical facts and the most relevant information about a patient.

One of the important characteristics of this architecture is that the data must be human readable using any standard web browser. The patient data within these documents is encoded in XML. WBC helped several clients to produce CCD/CCR documents out of their data store using extensions without changing their existing application architecture.

XML/CSV/Text

Data format like XML, Comma Separated Values (CSV), Text files are very common in electronic data transmissions. Many applications including legacy systems preferred to stay with the simple formats to avoid complexity in data exchange. These formats are simple to use and aid very economical data transfers.
