14 unusual food BFFs that prove some of the best friendships are also pretty weird
You can pick your friends. You can pick your food. You can’t always pick your food’s friends.
On #FriendshipDay, we want to introduce you to some unusual food friends—odd couples who make the unlikeliest combinations amazing, just like you and your friends. In the end, isn’t what makes you guys different also what makes your friendship delicious?
Sriracha + Peanut Butter Forget your childhood pb&j, because this blows it out of the water. The tang and spice of the Sriracha warms up in the sweet embrace of creamy peanut butter. It’s love.
Mangos + Chili Just when mango gets too sweet, chili powder kicks things up and keeps it spicy, like a good buddy who never quite lets you say, “I love you, man.”
Salt + Chocolate Salt makes chocolate a better, more chocolate version of its chocolatey self. Isn’t that what you want out of a good friend?
Broccoli + Cheese Puffs One is the ultimate healthy veg. The other, the mac daddy of munchies. Is it the crunch, or the colors that make them so compatible? They each bring something to the friendship.
Dark Chocolate + Beets Top your next beet salad with some dark chocolate shavings for some earthy-flavored goodness. Taste them high-fiving each other in every bite.
Rosemary + Lemonade Lemonade is a fun, easy-going, summery beverage, and rosemary gives it a fresh, classy touch, like a bestie lending you her pearls for a wedding.
Strawberries + Basil A sweet berry and a peppery herb? People said it would never last but here they are years later meeting for cocktails.
Oysters + Watermelon Oysters are like, “You shut up,” and watermelon is all, “No, you shut up,” but then they just start laughing and have a surprisingly great time together on the half shell.
Pickles + Ice Cream The “mother” of all food friendships. The salty-sour-sweet-creamy combo triggers a reward response in your brain. Science!
Pizza + Ranch Dressing Two of your favorite casual foods are having a serious fling. The dressing has a tartness that lights up in the presence of salty, tomato-y pizza.
Chocolate + Onion These two are among the more bizarre food buddies, but carmelized and melted together, they’re a dream team.
Donuts + Potato Chips These two go way back. Put it this way: If you talk smack about donuts being too soft or sweet, potato chips will get very salty with you. They’re loyal like that.
Olive Oil + Ice Cream Olive oil wanted to be a cool, creamy dessert for once. And ice cream made it happen. And it’s great. That’s what friends are for.
Chocolate Hazelnut Spread + French Fries That magical chocolate spread has a lot of friends, but when french fries are in the room, it’s like it’s just the two of them.
Food is always better with friends, so why not treat your crew to an UberEATS gift card* to celebrate #FriendshipDay? Get any combo you guys like—delivered.
UberEATS is available in 75+ cities, so we’re likely to be in yours. Open your UberEATS app now or visit our website and let’s get to mixing it up.
*Gift cards are redeemable in the UberEATS and Uber apps. Terms and conditions apply to gift cards. Depending on the state of purchase, this card is issued by Bancorp Card Services, Inc. or The Bancorp Bank.

Uber aims to create 500,000 opportunities of self-employment in Mexico by 2018
Uber reaffirmed its commitment to contribute to the economic development of Mexico. The Technology Company aims to create 500 thousand flexible self-employment opportunities by December 2018. After almost 4 years of operations in the country, Uber Mexico today has 220,000 active drivers, thus it intends to double the number within only 18 months.
Uber confirmed that it has invested 2,300 million pesos in Mexico, and to reach its goal it will invest another 6,800 million pesos during all of 2017 and 2018. This amount considers promotions for driver-partners, promotions for riders , continuous support of the application, recruitment of direct employees, as well as expansion of its offices and service centers to partners throughout the country, among others.
The company will work with allies from the public and private sector to jointly assist in the country’s economic growth. Among the allies, there are state authorities and institutions to support the development of inclusive mobility regulations such as the case of the State of Mexico and Puebla, which bring the opportunities for self-employment closer to more people; financial institutions, car dealers and manufacturers that facilitate the opportunity to own a car to more driver-partners, such as Nissan that agreed to offer a discount of approximately 7% to our partners on some car models; and NGOs that seek to bring self-employment opportunities closer to those with limited options, such as migrants and refugees.
“We firmly believe in the potential of Mexico – the first country we arrived to in Latin America – so we are committed to its economic development. As part of our commitment, we will work to provide more self-employment opportunities to more people, which will help them earn extra earnings and improve their quality of life”, said Federico Ranero, General Director of Uber Mexico and Uber Caribbean.
“Uber hasn’t only improved mobility of cities, it has also generated economic and development opportunities for the country by offering self-employment opportunities”, confirmed José Rogelio Garza Garza, Subsecretary of Industry and Commerce.
As part of the commitment to reach 500 thousand economic opportunities, Uber will start operations in at least 10 new more cities and will open 10 support centers in Mexico by December 2018.
The company also reaffirms its dedication to improving its application to ensure that the Uber app is considered a flexible opportunity for self-employment for all. Therefore, it will implement in the following months new security functions that benefit its driver-partners and riders.
The event was attended by leaders such as Gustavo de Hoyos, National President of COPARMEX, as well as Luis Wertman, President of Red Nacional de Consejos Ciudadanos de México A.C. and Mexico City Consejo Ciudadano.

180 Days of Change: Faster, Friendlier Support for Drivers
Last month, we made a commitment to 180 Days of Change for drivers, a company-wide effort designed to meaningfully improve the driver experience. We started with what drivers and delivery partners told us matters most: earnings, including tipping.
But a better earnings experience was only the beginning. Our commitment to change continues, and we sent this email to drivers a moment ago announcing support that’s faster, friendlier, and available on a driver’s schedule.
From a quick phone call to speedier paperwork to in-person visits — our goal is to be there for drivers, whenever and wherever they need us.
We’re just getting started, and we couldn’t be more excited to share what’s next in these 180 Days of Change.

An exciting future for Uber and Yandex
Below is an email sent today to Uber employees from Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, head of Uber’s business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Team,
Just three and a half years ago, Uber officially launched in Moscow. It was the start of an incredible journey which has seen us build, from scratch, a business that spans 16 cities in Russia and five cities in Azerbaijan, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
Today I’m excited to announce we are taking the next step in our mission to ensure everyone in these countries can get a reliable ride at the touch of a button.
As I just discussed with the local team in Moscow, Uber and Yandex have entered into an agreement to form a new company which combines our Rides and EATS businesses in Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Kazakhstan, as well as Armenia and Georgia where we currently do not operate. This is an exciting opportunity in a unique situation and our operations in other countries will not be affected.
The new company’s goal will be to serve the needs of riders, drivers and cities as we develop a fast-growing, sustainable ridesharing, food delivery and logistics business in the region. Combining Yandex’s local expertise in search, maps and navigation with our leading global experience in ridesharing will enable us to build the best local services and provide a credible alternative to car ownership across the region.
For the foreseeable future, the Uber and Yandex brands and rider apps will continue to operate, while the driver apps will be integrated after the transaction closes. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and other conditions and is expected to close in Q4 of this year.
As shareholders in our company, all of us should be incredibly excited about this next stage. Over the last three years we have invested around $170 million to build and expand our business to 21 cities in these countries.
Combining our business with Yandex will give us a very significant stake in a new company which will initially serve more than 35 million trips each month and operate in an incredible 127 cities in six countries across the region. Uber will also have three of the seven seats on the new company’s board and—together with the $225 million cash investment we are making in the new company—our 36.6 percent ownership stake will be worth almost $1.4 billion.
This deal is a testament to our exceptional growth in the region and helps Uber continue to build a sustainable global business.
Of course this success would not have been possible without our amazing team in the region and I am pleased to say that as part of today’s agreement all full time Uber employees in the countries involved will be part of the new company.
I’m sure there will be lots of questions so, in addition to the sessions we are holding in the region today, we will also have the opportunity to discuss this on the next Global Staff Call. Please submit any questions here.
Yours,
Pierre

Using Uber This Summer? Don’t Forget to Check Your Ride
It’s summer, which means barbecues, parties and more people out and about using Uber to get from A to B. A great ride starts with your safety, and with Uber, that starts with getting into the right car.
That’s why this summer we’re launching a public awareness campaign about steps people can take to avoid getting into the wrong car. While rare, in partnership with law enforcement, we have been made aware of reports from cities across the country about rideshare scams. Unauthorized individuals may pose as rideshare drivers and target people who appear to be distracted or impaired. Some may offer to give free rides or discounted rides if paid in cash.
We want to proactively educate potential riders about how they can avoid a potentially dangerous situation.
One key way is to double check two important details before starting a trip – the driver and the car. When requesting a trip through the Uber app, you receive the driver’s photo, name, the car make/model and license plate number.
In cases when you are helping someone request a ride through Uber who may have had a few drinks or is unfamiliar with the app, help them double check that the driver and vehicle match the details in the app — before they get in the car.
If the information doesn’t match up, do not get into the car. Go to a safe place and wait for the right car to arrive, or cancel the ride and report it to us. In an emergency or if you feel threatened, contact police immediately and inform us of the incident when it’s safe to do so.
And if you’re a driver, you can help ensure you have the right passenger in your car by asking for the account holder’s name before starting the trip.
Taking the extra step to double check these details is an important safety measure. Remember that rides can only be requested through the Uber app. If you get into the wrong car, you won’t know who is behind the wheel and neither will we.
Technology has enabled Uber to build safety into our service before, during and after a trip. But these features only work if you are actually on an Uber trip, including:
GPS-tracked rides from start to finish. Passengers can see their route, and the location of their car, in the app throughout the journey. Drivers and passengers know that there is a record of the journey which creates more accountability.
The ability to share details of each trip in real time with family and friends, including route and estimated arrival time.
Two-way feedback system that allows for the driver and rider to rate each other and provide feedback. Uber reviews this information and investigates any issues.
Cross-street feature which enables riders to enter in their cross streets as a pick-up or drop-off destination if they want an extra layer of privacy.
24/7 customer support that is ready to respond to any issues or inquiries.
So don’t forget to check your ride to ensure you, your friend, or loved one is getting into the right car.

Get a Taste of the World: UberEATS is in 100+ Cities
When he was just getting started in the culinary world, Luciano noticed how the Italian chef he worked for brought his community together through his food. Emboldened by this experience, Luciano decided to bring a taste of his home country to his Boston community by opening his own restaurant. What started as a take-out Brazilian restaurant named Oasis Steakhouse in a small town outside of Boston became a neighborhood staple over the years. Most recently, Luciano decided to take his food outside the neighborhood when his team heard UberEATS was coming to Boston earlier this year. By joining  UberEATS to reach more communities, the Oasis team started delivering fresh Brazilian food to more neighborhoods in the area. The manager of Oasis, Alessandra, a Brazilian native herself put it this way: “whether you want to taste the flavors of home or want to adventure in traveling through the different cultures of Brazil, we surely can make it happen with a wide variety on the menu.”
Every day, more than 60,000 restaurants around the world like Luciano’s open their doors through UberEATS to serve hungry customers in new corners of their cities. In our first year alone, UberEATS grew to serve 56 cities around the world .
Today, we are excited to surpass the 100th city mark by welcoming two Brazilian cities, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte, to the UberEATS family.
From Atlanta to Warsaw, people have truly embraced this  easy and reliable way to discover the food they love at the push of a button. Whether that’s an Indian inspired samosa, a good old-fashioned American burger or Vietnamese pho, people in 27 countries are using UberEATS to get a taste of the world’s flavors at the push of a button. For example, one of our most well-traveled and prolific fans has eaten her way through 22 cities in 6 countries through UberEATS. The most adventurous EATS fan has not had to travel very far to try 78 different types of cuisines from 162 restaurants.
This is a trend we’re seeing around the world, with most countries eating beyond their culinary borders. While some places like Brazil, India, Japan, Mexico and the United States really enjoy having their home country’s cooking delivered, the most popular cuisines in 18 out of 27 countries hail from another part of the world. In fact, Asian food tops the list for consumers in Poland and Belgium.  The most popular restaurants around the world, however, are serving up American classics, like burgers and sandwiches.
While we are growing to satisfy a global appetite, the essential ingredients that make this possible are the thousands of restaurant and delivery partners who connect people around the world with the food they love. And we are committed to mixing in the special sauce– the technology–that helps make food delivery easy and reliable for restaurants, delivery partners, and consumers.
Whether that means making our navigation system easier (these days earning on Uber doesn’t require a car) and delivery handoffs more intuitive for delivery-partners like Ching in Toronto, who holds the world title for delivering the most meals (more than 8,000 meals delivered and counting) or building tools to share data and insights with restaurant owners like Trung in San Francisco to to make better decisions about his growing business, or even surfacing personalized recommendations for the millions of taste buds out there, we believe this is winning a recipe for connecting communities through food around the world.
We are all familiar with food delivery, be it calling your  pizza joint or indulging in late-night Chinese takeout. As we build out the vision for UberEATS, this stereotype is no longer the rule. In cities around the world, restaurants are offering their dishes, from salads to family recipes, to more customers all over their cities–whether they are at home, at the office, or the park. We are thrilled to bring together more than 100 cities where you can get a taste of home or travel to exotic places at the push of a button.

Uber and MADD Celebrate Three Years Together
Many of us are enjoying the long days of summer, featuring warm nights, cookouts and family vacations. However, the summer holiday is also known as the ‘100 deadliest days on the road,’ which falls between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.
With all the carefree days ahead, we want to make sure drunk driving and road safety are top of mind. That’s why three years ago we partnered with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to help raise the awareness of this public safety issue and urge people to get a designated driver. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 32% of drivers involved in fatal crashes at night were drunk.
Together with MADD, we have focused our efforts on making sure people know there are a host of options for getting home safely. Technology has made it easier than ever to get a safe ride home. Here are tips from MADD’s volunteers and team members from across the country on how to be safe this summer with Uber.
It Just Takes One Drink, So Plan Ahead – Impairment begins at the first drink. That means your ability to make safe decisions diminishes, and why the safest choice is to never drink and drive. Have a plan to get home before your night starts.
Get A Safe Ride With Uber Or Get A Designated Driver – Don’t take the chance. Leave the keys behind if you know you will be drinking.
New To Uber? Create Your Account Before You Leave The House – Don’t wait to sign up for Uber before going out. Here’s how to download the app and sign up for your first trip.
Uber conducted a survey with riders in the U.S. to ask how the company has helped them decide how to get home if they have been drinking. Among the findings, 90% say that Uber helps reduce drinking and driving. Further, 80% of respondents say that Uber has helped them personally avoid drinking and driving.
These responses highlight how we can get to zero fatalities, but there is still much more work to be done to encourage people to make the right decision before getting behind the wheel.
As we celebrate three years of partnership with MADD, we thank our partners for helping keep the roads safe this summer – and every day.

This 4th of July: Celebrate the Freedom to Feast (Your Way)
It’s the peak of summer, and here in the U.S., it’s also a beloved holiday. On the Fourth of July, we love to reflect on independence, and for us, that means an abundance of delicious ways to celebrate with friends and family. No matter what your craving, we have some ideas that will set your tastebuds free:
Do it yourself, the traditional way. The classic BBQ is a classic for a reason—and there’s nothing quite like doing the cooking at your cookout. The warm outdoors, the smell of the grill, complete with burgers, corn, potato salad, maybe some ribs…we love it too. If you forget an ingredient or want to make a last-minute addition to the lineup, don’t sweat, you’ve got a whole city of restaurants at your fingertips.
Choose to do less. Go ahead and show off your prowess over the coals. You do the mains, UberEATS can deliver the sides and dessert. Bonus hack: mix it up with some creative sides, like sushi rolls or braised asparagus. Hey, it’s your party.
Have a chilled-out dessert party, independent of main dishes. Put your feet up and let UberEATS make your party ultra cool with deliveries of ice cream sundaes, Italian ices, cupcakes, apple pies, or any other sweet treat you can think of.
Feel free to go non-traditional. Falafel under the fireworks? Why not? Same to poke, curry, crepes, etc. After all, it’s a big melting pot of a country we’re celebrating, so go ahead and order up foods from around the world.
Choose to sit out the BBQ and fireworks. Sensitive ears? Don’t feel like elbowing through crowds on a hot night? No problem. Stay in and have a summer blockbuster movie night and let UberEATS deliver snacks. Start with popcorn and go way beyond: chicken strips, jalapeño poppers, antipasto—all fair game.
UberEATS is available in 90+ cities–so we’re likely to be in yours. Open your UberEATS app now or visit our website and let’s get this party started.

5 Billion Trips
Uber started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get a ride at the push of a button? In late 2015, we hit a big milestone: one billion trips. Six months later, we crossed two billion.
And just a few weeks ago, on Saturday, May 20, 156 trips started simultaneously at 7:29:06am GMT, putting us over the five billion mark.
These trips happened in 24 countries on six continents, in cities like Mumbai, Moscow and Medellin. One lucky driver was on his first trip: he picked up a passenger on a motorbike in Jakarta, Indonesia. And six riders were taking their first Uber trips, too.
The shortest trip of the bunch lasted just 2.5 blocks in San Francisco (we won’t judge). The longest lasted 27 kilometers in Singapore (that’s pretty far in a country just 50 kilometers wide). And fifteen riders were using Uber outside of their home city.
All of these trips wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated service of drivers. To say thanks, we’re giving each of the 156 drivers who were part of this milestone $500.
Moving forward, we’re more focused than ever on building features for riders and drivers that will get us to the next five billion. This is just the beginning…we’ll see you out on the road!

Insurance for Ridesharing Drivers with Uber in New York
With the passage of 2018 New York fiscal budget, ridesharing officially comes to New York State. Pursuant to New York’s ridesharing laws, Uber ridesharing partners are covered by Uber’s group ridesharing insurance while online. A summary of this coverage is below.
While on an accepted trip (on your way to pick up a rider and while a rider is in your car):
$1.25 million of liability coverage per incident. Uber holds a group ridesharing insurance policy with $1.25 million of coverage per incident. Drivers’ liability to third parties is covered from the moment a driver accepts a trip to its conclusion. This policy is expressly primary to any personal auto coverage.
$1.25 million of uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage per incident. In the event that another motorist causes an accident with a rideshare vehicle and the motorist doesn’t carry adequate insurance or is uninsured, this coverage protects against bodily injury to all occupants of the rideshare vehicle. This is important to ensure protection in a hit and run.
No fault coverage (e.g., Personal Injury Protection). This state-required coverage protects all occupants of the rideshare vehicle for medical and health expenses, lost earnings, and other reasonable and necessary expenses resulting from vehicle related injuries up to $50,000.
Contingent comprehensive and collision insurance. If a ridesharing driver holds personal comprehensive and collision insurance, this policy covers physical damage occurring to that vehicle during a trip, up to the actual cash value of the vehicle, with a $1,000 deductible. NOTE: This coverage only applies on an accepted trip. You may want to consider purchasing your own comprehensive and collision insurance coverage for the times you are waiting for a trip request. For more information, please see here.
App on, waiting for a trip request:
$75,000/$150,000/$25,000 of coverage between trips. During the time that a ridesharing partner is available to receive ride requests or is between trips, we maintain a group commercial policy that covers the driver’s liability for bodily injury up to $75,000 per injury per accident with a total of $150,000 per accident and up to $25,000 for property damage.
Uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage per incident. In the event that another motorist causes an accident with a rideshare vehicle and the motorist doesn’t carry adequate insurance or is uninsured, this coverage protects against bodily injury to all occupants of the rideshare vehicle. This coverage provides up to $25,000 in injury liability per person ($50,000 per accident) and $50,000 per person for death ($100,000 per accident). This is important to ensure protection in a hit and run.
No fault coverage (e.g., Personal Injury Protection). This state-required coverage protects you for medical and health expenses, lost earnings, and other reasonable and necessary expenses resulting from vehicle related injuries up to $50,000.
Offline:
You are subject to state financial responsibility law while offline. Uber does not maintain any auto insurance coverage during this period of time. You can learn more about these requirements from the New York Department of Financial Services here.
Coverage for Commercial Drivers
Uber rides in New York City are regulated by the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission, which requires commercial insurance policies for each individual vehicle. Accidents that happen on rides originating in New York City are covered by those commercial policies that are maintained by the driver. Outside New York City, Uber may partner with drivers who are licensed and insured commercially by other jurisdictions. Those rides may be booked under the names UberBLACK, UberSUV, UberTAXI, and UberT, among others, and accidents happening on those rides are covered by the commercial insurance maintained by the driver.
NOTE: This summary does not amend or alter any terms or conditions of Uber’s group ridesharing insurance. Please see group insurance policies (linked above) for full details.
IMPORTANT DISCLOSURE: THE INSURER NAMED HEREIN IS NOT LICENSED BY THE STATE OF NEW YORK, NOT SUBJECT TO ITS SUPERVISION, AND IN THE EVENT OF THE INSOLVENCY OF THE INSURER, NOT PROTECTED BY THE NEW YORK STATE SECURITY FUNDS. THE POLICY MAY NOT BE SUBJECT TO ALL OF THE REGULATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCIAL SERVICES PERTAINING TO POLICY FORMS.
James River is an eligible excess lines carrier in New York. You can find more information about James River’s eligibility here.

Request a Ride for a Loved One
Saroj, aged 79 lives in Pune, India. She can’t drive herself or use the bus, and doesn’t own a smartphone, leaving her transportation options limited. Her grandson, Yash, concerned about her mobility, has been looking for solutions to get Saroj to appointments and errands, so she has the freedom to move around without him being there.
Saroj’s and Yash’s situation is similar to what we heard in research. Seniors are concerned about losing their mobility as they age, and their loved ones can feel overwhelmed when managing the senior’s transportation needs. Furthermore, today nearly 10% of the global population consists of people aged 65 and over and that number is only expected to increase. Keeping these insights top of mind, we’ve been thinking about ways to make our app more accessible to everyone in the family.
We’re excited to share that we’re offering a feature so you can easily request a ride for your loved ones right from your Uber app.
Now, when you set the pickup away from your current location, we’ll automatically ask whether the ride is for a family member or friend. You can then select the rider from your address book, set their destination, and request the ride on their behalf.
Once the driver is on the way, the rider will receive a text message with the driver’s details and a link to track the driver’s route. They’ll even be able to contact the driver directly. The driver will see the rider’s name, and be able to contact the rider directly, too.
We’re committed to providing safe, reliable transportation options for everyone in the family – including seniors like Saroj. So no matter where your loved ones need to be – and where you are located – a safe, reliable ride is just a few taps away.
This feature is available starting today in over 30 countries with more coming soon. Make sure you have the most up-to-date app to use this feature!

Uber, Driving Indonesia Forward in 30 cities across 7 islands
When we introduced ridesharing to Indonesia in 2014, no one could have imagined the impact it would have.
Fast forward to today, we are pleased to say that Uber is now available in 30 cities across 7 islands: Java (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Bandung, Cimahi, Cirebon, Surakarta, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Gresik, Malang, Batu, Banyuwangi dan Jember), Bali, Lombok, Sumatera (Bandar Lampung, Palembang, Medan, Deli Serdang, Pekanbaru), Batam, Borneo (Pontianak and Balikpapan) and Sulawesi (Manado and Makassar).
Uber is now available in 30 cities across 7 islands in Indonesia
Michael Brown, Regional General Manager, Asia Pacific, Uber, said: “It’s exciting to be serving so many people in so many cities across Indonesia.  Our expansion shows the demand for ridesharing in both big and medium sized cities, and our strong commitment to Indonesia. Uber is proud to be creating flexible economic opportunities for driver partners, helping cities tackle congestion and promoting tourism.”
People from all walks of life ride with Uber out of a shared desire to have a safe, reliable and affordable ride at a push of a button from A to B. Recent research by AlphaBeta revealed that riders choose ridesharing with Uber for 5 key reasons: 1. Affordability, 2. Convenience, 3. Reliability, 4. Time efficiency and 5. Safety. Riders can save up to 65% of commuting costs and 38% of their time since using Uber.
While everyone drives for a different reason – to support their family, socialise with people, save for a wedding or help build a business – they share a common desire: the ability to earn some extra money in a way that fits around their life, rather than the other way around.
Our data revealed that for the past 3 months, 61% of driver partners use Uber less than 10 hours per week; meanwhile Alphabeta research stated that 46% of driver-partners joined Uber to benefit from its flexibility and 32% wants to earn additional income. Uber also contributes to increasing financial inclusivity of driver-partners: 6% of driver-partners did not have any bank accounts before and 39% of driver-partners they have been more financially active after partnering with Uber.
Cities also benefits from Uber’s presence, as it brings more people in fewer cars, complements public transportation, supports tourism and opens economic opportunity.
According to Alphabeta study, 6% of riders have stopped driving their own vehicles and 62% of them now drive less after using Uber; 20% of the trip in Jakarta and surrounding areas started and ended in underserved areas, while 8% of trips in Jabodetabek happen between 23:00-05:00; in Jakarta, our data showed 30% of trips happen between 22:00-02:00.
As the number of tourists traveling to Indonesia steadily rises, so does the number of people arriving with the Uber app already on their phone – maintaining the international reputation of Indonesia as a welcoming and globally connected place to visit. In the past three months, rides in Indonesia have been requested by visitors from 76 countries, with top international riders from the Singapore, United States, Malaysia, Australia and the United Kingdom.
Data from AlphaBeta shows that 43% of driver-partners were not part of workforce before joining Uber – among them, 28% were unemployed, 8% stayed-at-home, 4% students and 3% retirees.
By embracing new innovations and sharing economy business model, such as offered by Uber, Indonesia has the opportunity to be the global hub of sharing economy and Uber is committed to working with stakeholders and the Government of Indonesia to make this a reality.
To celebrate this milestone, we’re giving 30% discount for 7 trips in all these cities except Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung and Bali, by using Uber30KOTA promo code, valid for all rides in all cities until 12 July 2017.

180 Days of Change
A few moments ago, we sent this email to all drivers and delivery partners in the US.
For the next 180 days (and beyond), we’ll be making meaningful changes to the driving experience. Some changes will be big, some will be smallーall will be changes drivers have asked for.
Why now? Because it’s the right thing to do, it’s long overdue, and there’s no time like the present. This is just the beginning. We know there’s a long road ahead, but we won’t stop until we get there.
