16/05/2019- Weekly Summary

Personal Portfolio

This week it was finishing off the last few bits for this project. I started but updating some of the website taking bits from the turn arounds adding in the La Llorona film, I was then able to finished the last three turn around, I had some trouble with these ones and they don't stand up on their own and I cant pin them down so I had to think of a way to fold them up. Luckily I was able to come to a solution and got them all finished. This allowed me to do the final updates on my website, I am happy with how it looks know and I feel that it should my best work. I also did some research into showreel this week looking at a range of different one looking to see how that are layout and how they are presented on screen. I took all the information I learnt into consideration whilst I was making my showreel I made sure to use my best clip and put a range at the start I also tried to keep it short around the 2 minute mark so its not to long for people to have to sit though. I was also able to do some research into different job advertisement I struggled finding any for stop motion but I did in the end find one that I could apply my skills to. I then wrote my cover letter making sure to show my specialised skills and my transferable skills they are looking for a specified in their advertisement. I am really happy with my website I feel more confident with it after all the work I have done to bring it up to a better standard. I am happy I was able to get through this project however I felt I left it on the back burner a bit I could have been more focused on this from the start.

16/05/2019- Weekly Summary

Collaborative Production

This week it is just finishing off a few final bits for this project,  I started with the A3 multiplane of the Grandmother showing her as a design, a wire armature and the finished stop motion character as this was the character I had designed from the start and wanted to show the progression of. I was also able to get the personal progression reel done with was a lot harder then It had been in the past as I have some much to put in it that I wasn’t sure what to leave out, I was able to get it done in the end and I am happy with what I showed in it. We researched teaser trailers to see how long they normally are and we found that they would be a better length considering how long our film is. We struggled for a while to think of what we could do for out trailer the scene we wanted to show and what we wanted to conceal, Sophie came up with a good layout in the end and I edited it together with her supervisor and I really liked her idea in the end I think it works well with our film and keeps the uncertainty. We did get our film check over and got a little bit of advice which we took and made the adjustments that we where able to accomplish with the time we have left. We have exported out film for the final time and that is the last of the project complete. I felt that the animation has gone really well this week we only had a few notes in out feedback and our trailer when well to we where able to communicate and co-operative to make a trailer we are proud of.

This is my cover letter I when back over the information we got at the workshop to help me write this and the example one we where given on the VLE. I started by writing out a small planned taking into consideration all the information I know and have learnt about writing a cover letter. Once I had that it was a lot easier to write and I get though it, had some other check it of spelling, punctuation and grammar. I am happy with how this has turned out it when a lot better then I though it would and I was nervous about writing but I’m glad I got it done.

It took a long time to go though all of these websites and in the end I couldn’t really find anything relating to stop motion specifically. I did find to job advertisements that interested me, I wasn’t sure which one to choose but in the end I went for the animator and motion designer job as I felt the job description gave more information on what they wanted in an applicant.

These are the final edits I made to my website this week I was able to upload my final film La Llorona to its pre production page and the animation page. I also put my finished showreel on there home page so it is the first thing people see when they come to my site. I decided in the end to have my robots as they will link of the pages and I feel it was to separate between the sub pages and the main pages. I also put all new picture of the armature on the character page and they all have similar lighting and I think they all look better together.

These are my new title and end cards for my showreel. I was still happy with how they look from last year I just gave them a bit of an update changing the font and including the area I specialise in. I also put my website on it to have all of the way on contacting on there. I am happy with how they look and I think they will work in my showreel.

This is my finished show am happy with the videos I have chose to use and I think it has improved from my last 2 showreel I think the quality of work I have put in has gotten better and shows more of my skills.

Showreel Research

I really like this showreel, it is all stop motion but with a range of different projects. The clips are all engaging and fun to watch keeping the audience entertained. The music in the background really works for all of the clips and even with the when the characters are talking at it has been make quieter the music stills fits well. The who showreel has been edited together well and the changes between the animation work really well the whole showreel works together really well and in such a short amount of time. This is definitely ones of my favourite showreel I have seen, it keep peoples attention and the clips don't end up repetitive and there aren't to many that there is an overload of content the audience has to try and take in.

This was a good showreel the animation where funny and interesting to watch they engaged the audience and I wanted to know more and even watch the animations that are in the reel. The reel is mostly the dialogue from the animations but I think that works well with how investing the animations are. Some of the clips are a little to long and in then end you feel like you are watching the actual film instead of a showreel. I really like her title card I think that works for the look of her work. I like the different in style with her different animations as well they didn’t all look the exact same there was a different between each one. I also think it was the right length it didn’t go on to long and it was easy to watch the whole way though as it does go on for very long.

This showreel was by Gemma Roberts, I felt it was good it showed a tile page and end page with her name what her main focus on jobs are and contact information for those who want to get into contact with her. The clips did become a little bit repetitive as it showed the ruff and then clean up stage which was her main area of work but the clip did because slightly repetitive. There was the use of coloured bits of animation and text on screen to show her part in the animation or it was used to show what the finished product looked like. The music use was good but the lyrics did become slightly distracting but it worked really well with her animations and there was some dialogue sound in a few of the clips. The show reel was good it had a range or work and did have a good clip to start with. I wasn’t to long so it was easy to watch quickly. I really like this showreel and had things I can take into consideration.

These are the marketing skill we chose to use we wanted a range from both the 2D and Stop Motion sections. Theses where our favourite scene in the film and we though they would work best of the marketing stills.

Today we got some feedback on our animation and how we could improve it, we had to take into consideration how much we can actually get down with the limited time we had. The changes we made where:

> Had a fade in at the beginning from black as the film doesn’t just start.

> We added a red tone to the opening scenes so it had a warmer colour to it and feel like more of that Spanish warmth.

> We also added the red tones to the scene where the light turns out as it was to blue and light and made Eve herself very pale.

> We finally remove the long shot between the end of the dream and the waking up scene as it didn’t really do much for the animation and is unneeded overall.

These changes did help the animation and make it look better overall, I am really happy with how it looks.

I had trouble uploading the video so I got screen shot of the areas we made changes to show the area we did edit the film.

Today we made the trailer for our short film La Llorona we tired to keep the suspense up as much as possible throughout the trailer and we tried to keep it as shot as possible so as not to give much away, we cut to black after most scene and had a bit of the dialogue. We also had a jump scare at the end of the hand after the title had been on screen

This is my personal progression reel I tried to get as much of my work in as possible with out making it to long, where was a lot to include with the pre- production work and then the post production couldn't all go in it luckily I could fit most of the film so I was able to show the end scene. Im happy with it I think it show the work I have put into the unit and the music I think works well.

Teaser Trailer Research

 Today we came to do our trailer for our animation, we realised that a trailer is about the length of our actual film so we research how long a teaser trailer is

We felt that this was a better solution to the trailer then trying to make something the same length as out film that wasn’t going to work out as well of our group also the short approach will help with a horror trailer try to conceal as much as we can.

This is my multiplane I made for the group I focused on the Grandmothers as she was the character I design and then made. I choose to have the original design for her, I then wanted the wire armature to show how she started and then the finished look of the Grandmother as a complete stop motion armature. I wanted to show the process of the character, if I could have had more layer I would of shown more of the process but this still shows it so I am happy with how it looks.

Today I continued to edit my website, I put the image of my other armature on the character sheet but I found the lighting was to light for the page so I will take another picture which will hopefully work better with the others. I also put the picture on the pre- production page of the whats in the box project I made her for.   I then when though a fixed the titles on the new pages as I wanted then to be more uniformed so I added the grey title box to the top of each page so it looks like the other. Although I left out the robot as they are subpages.

10/05/2019- Weekly Summary

Personal Portfolio

This week I was able to get a lot done for this project, I started with doing some edits with my personal proposal form writing up more of a summary to each of the sections making sure I get across my intentions from the project and what I needed to do. I was also able to do some animation sequences, I decided to animate my already existing armatures as I an not going to be able to finished the two I started in this project. I animated my dragon and pip as they did t do much movement when I used then in my last project. I wanted to use them to show my skill of animating two armatures at the same time and keeps the movement fluent. I also drew out a recording screen to go over the animation to make it look like they are being recording and preforming like children, Im not sure if people will get the story but I like it and think it works well for the two characters. I also animated a hug between the characters and added it on to the end of the first animation because I think they go well together and it works as a whole. With the final animation I decided to show my wolf chasing its tail as I only appeared in one animation last year and I enjoyed animating something with 4 legs it makes it a bit more of a challenge with its moments. I also did a turn around of my last armature but I found we had a turn table to use for turn arounds so I tested it and it look so much more professional so I decided to redo all of them. However It takes longer then I though it would so I was only able to get three done this week so I need to go back and finished the last three next week. Finally theses week I made some changes to my CV buy felt it didn’t look as good so I have decided to stick with the first one I think it looks a lot better though I did add some more red on to the page as it goes with the red on the robot. On my business card I decided to change the back ground on my card by instead of the tool background, at first I when for a solid colour but after I decided to change it to tow colours it keeps  the look simple but make it more interesting then a plan colour. I felt that the animations went well this week I was able to develop skills and show my character in different ways, I am also really happy with my card and CV I an confident they are finished. It didn’t go as well with the turn around I would have preferred to get all of them finished so them I could make more headway with my showreel and website I am just going to have to get though them on Monday and hope I can get the rest done.

10/05/2019- Weekly Summary

Collaborative Production

This week I edited scene 13 for the last time I was able to take on board the advice I got for my teacher and the editing when a lot better this time, once I had finished covering under the bed I put the eyes in and the hand in making sure the timings where correct and that the hand fades into the shot. After I finished this scene I moved on to adding the audio into the first half of the animation making sure to time it out so I the voices are in the right places, I had to move around the scene a bit to make sure that the animation is long enough. I was also able to make some eyelids out of super sculpty I then took pictures edited them on photoshop and then placed them into the after effects folder. I put them with the 11th scene timing them out I wasn’t to sure how I felt about them so I exported two versions one with the blinking and one without so Sophie could see which one she liked before we make a final decision. I then placed sound on to the ending section the only one that needs to been timed is the gasp as she wakes up and then I needed the to place the thunder and rain in to help with the atmosphere. I also made some changes to the group schedule, I had to wait till Sophie sent me her personal one so I could update it on our group schedule I then moved on to editing my personal schedule to make sure that is correct as their where a few changes throughout the project. We then meet up today as a group to place both parts together although we come across some issues that we needed to fix, we swapped some of my scenes around of continuity reason, we also had some issue with the sounds so we fixed those as well. We also had to edit the blink as it was to dark so it didn't match the scene well so we put an effect of it to make the colours closer before finally adding both the stop motion and 2D parts. Finally we added the title and credits using the font we decided to use for the look. Overall it went well this week with the animation we where able to get it finally finished a week early to we still have time if anything goes wrong. I would have gone better if I didn’t have so many things to fix on my part I felt like I had shown things half down I know that isn't the case as all the other scene where finished it was just 2 frames that needs sorting a little more.

Today I was able to complete three out of six turn around this had taken a lot longer then I would have liked but it will be worth it when they are finished and I have them in my showreel. I will finished the last three next week so I will have them all done in time.
