As Ree knows—because she has a few of them!—sometimes the best dog breeds are the smartest dog breeds. Because while we all love our sweet-but-stubborn pooches (we're looking at you, pugs), or even our cute-but-kinda-clueless canines (sorry, chow chows), it can be really nice to have a well-trained pupper.

The Dogo Argentino is a pack-hunting dog, bred for the pursuit of big-game such as wild boar and puma, and possesses the strength, intelligence and quick responsiveness of a serious athlete. His short, plain and smooth coat is completely white, but a dark patch near the eye is permitted as long as it doesn't cover more than 10% of the head. The ideal Dogo Argentino is a study in harmony.

Well-socialized Malinois are good with children, especially if they are raised with them, but because of their herding heritage they may have a tendency to nip at their heels and try to herd them when playing. You must teach your Malinois that this behavior is unacceptable.

The Tibetan Mastiff tends to be a bit more laid back than the Caucasian Shepherd, however. They also have a larger lifespan, despite the fact that both breeds suffer from similar health issues. With proper training, either breed could be a good fit for experienced dog owners.

The dogs boast an intimidating size, a thick coat that protects against bites, and fearlessness—they're capable of killing a wolf but sometimes the sight of a Kangal alone is enough to scare large predators away. The most cherished dog is Haylaz's own father, Serkan, who's taken down two wolves in the past three years.

The Cane Corso is very loyal and affectionate…with their own people. This is not a dog that becomes the best friend of everyone they meet. In fact, they're indifferent to other dogs and people not in their family. But they are intensely loyal and protective of their own family.

#1 Kangal. With an almost unbelievable bite force of 734 psi, the Kangal doubtless has the strongest jaws in the world. Bred in Turkey to bring down larger animals preying on sheep and other livestock, these pups are masters at neutralizing danger!
