I don't really know how high jump works, but I just saw two athletes who were in a dead-heat after many, many jumps decide to share the gold medal instead of continuing to compete for a tie-breaker, and their shared joy absolutely stole my heart:

i want you all to know that there is an artist (carmen papalia) who, after he started using a white cane, assembled a 12 foot long white cane and began using it in downtown vancouver. the length of the cane made it functionally useless as a device and the only purpose it served was making him an obstacle for sighted people. dare i say… 2019 goals

These last few days in fandom have made me realize that my experience of having consumed every Misha Collins related piece of content available on the internet is NOT universal. I’ve always considered myself a non-crazy fan but I’ve begun to question that, seriously, I have an encyclopedic knowledge of everything the guy has chosen to make public.
Just from the top of my head:
he was a white house intern and stole white house passes to make a mobile,
decided not to go into politics after all and instead get famous in order to enact change (something he says in retrospect was stupid even though it worked out)
he’s an NPR geek,
he makes jam and cans a lot of things,
can knit,
once played the role of a well-endowed yoga instructor addicted to self-fellatio,
his dream is to build an art commune out in the country,
he has infiltrated an Indian sex cult to try and expose its anti-native policies,
accidentally dropped acid at Burning Man and hated it so he had his dad sing to him all night,
doesn’t smoke weed because he reacts funny to it,
prefers his salads dressingless,
used to pretend to be a russian exchange student to get free pizza,
went to his highschool prom dressed in drag,
was disappointed as a child to find out not every kid grew up to be a woman,
fashioned his wife a bed out of a tree that fell in his mother’s yard using the makeshift woodshop in his college dormroom,
has built several large structures because he’s a highly skilled carpenter,
holds several guiness world records,
used bolt cutters to sneak around underground alleys at uchicago as shortcuts,
there are several bigfoot-esque pictures circulating of him naked in the distance,
he’s polyamorous,
has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity,
his given name is Dmitri Tippens Krushnic,
he rescued a turtle and named it Dryaluxaloud (a name that came to him in a dream) and keeps it in his backyard pond,
he was arrested for bank robbery after climbing on top of a bank building for better reading light,
does massive art installations,
was homeless as a child,
runs marathons,
organizes GISH which is a thing I cannot begin to explain,
starred in a bad scifi move titled “Stonehenge Apocalypse,”
also does blacksmithing and pottery,
wears orange underwear most of the time because he thinks it’s lucky,
participated in a retreat at a Tibetan monastery,
renewed his vows with his wife in a supermarket while wearing a lace wedding gown,
lost a $1,800+ bet to Jared Padalecki and payed him back in coins he dumped in his trailer,
is a published poet and wishes to someday publish a book of poetry,
has screenplays he’s written and wants to make into films,
had a job delivering newspapers when he was a kid but lost his job in the sping because his manager discovered he’d just been stowing papers in snowdrifts and going home,
built his wife a house,
can draw,
is incredibly accident-prone,
is a certified EMT, lifeguard and motorcyclist,
illegally sunk a tree killed in a forest fire into cement in an expensive highway island in Hollywood and mounted a plaque on it with an obscene inscription,
was the most flexible boy at his highschool in its 100 year history
And I’m forgetting a lot rn but basically he’s fucking insane and we love him

Some poor wee English person sent me a message that included a lot of assumptions, harmful stereotypes, anti-Irish sentiments, xenophobia and purposeful misunderstandings so I thought I’d make this post to set the record straight for any new or returning visitors!
I do not support the DUP or Sinn Fein because I believe parties with that strong a connection to terrorist parties should play no role in politics in NI. (Also DUP is homophobic as). The connections are undeniable and literal fact. Sad but unfortunately true. I also dislike the way Sinn Fein refuse to take up their seats? They could do so much more, like argue for climate action if they took them up. I get why they don’t but still. I support the Green party as fruitless as a vote like that can be 😂 Everyone in NI reading, a vote for the Green party is a vote for the planet 🌎!!! Even one seat is a voice for change!!! (It is also very pro-lgbtq+ unlike most other parties so yay i love having rights)
I realise that not all branches of the IRA were terrorists. It’s only really the last few branches and not even all of those. However I believe any organisation who continues to use the name IRA despite the terrorist connotations of the acronym is either very foolish or is showing their support for the violence during the troubles. (It’s not that hard to change the name to something like IRO is it???)
The IRA wasn’t the only paramilitary involved in the Troubles (well duh). There were plenty of unionist ones filled with terrorists equally as criminal and disgusting. If you’ve eyes or ears you probably know about the recent terrorism from young loyalist terrorists in Belfast. They are still very much active today. Anyone who did so much as throw a molotov should be in jail for life. I don’t care about their political leanings, if they think blowing up people is grand I don’t think we believe in the same policies anyway.
I don’t consider myself a unionist or a republican. I would hope that those labels die out asap because they do nothing but divide us. I support a peaceful vote on both sides of the border for Irish unification. Currently, saying this for the sake of clarity, I would vote to stay purely because my family relies heavily on the NHS. If down south vocally said that they would support them and wrote it into law my vote would likely change. Unionist and republican are both very static and makes it a part of your identity instead of a decision you make weighing out your options. What happens if/when Ireland is unified?
I obviously don’t believe anyone who supports Sinn Fein or the Irish language is a terrorist (the lengths you’d have to go to to make that statement 😂). See the second paragraph for why I dislike the party itself but I can see why people would vote for them and support many of their reasons. Particularly the spread of Irish language programs!!! We need Irish in every single school! Compulsory Irish until GCSEs! Everyone should be able to make small talk at least in it! It is our heritage and a beautiful, complicated (very, very, very complicated 😅) language. I can also understand and support the need for a referendum like Scotland’s. I don’t understand why anyone would be against it unless you were sure your vote would lose and terrified of the outcome to that.
I love NI though I very much do not consider myself a patriot. I share Ursula Le Guin’s views on the word and idea. Patriotism isn’t love, it’s hatred and fear of the other. I love our beautiful hills, our farmer accents, our tray-bakes, our generally kind people, our mountains, our seasides and our filled sodas. I despise our general intolerance, our two party system filled with liars, the way we are split into two by our religion, the way we assume our religion defines our political beliefs, our propensity for terrorism, the way that beliefs like mine are uncommon and weird and the way that if you set yourself against one party you are believed to be an extremist for the other despite all evidence to the contrary (looking at you wee English lady 👀). What I love wouldn’t change if our wee 6 joined the rest. Hopefully what I hate will change as time goes on.
Oh and sorry if this is obvious but apparently I have to say this over and over and over again. The Troubles were bad. I could list name after name of people killed by either side many of whom were related to me. I grew up to bomb scares in schools and every single adult I knew was scarred and scared. The most important thing that we can do in NI is do our very best to prevent another Troubles because we don’t want to live like that anymore. I don’t give a crap about which side you’re blowing us up for. It’s not going to make a difference to me when I’m splattered all over the street is it 😂. My agenda is peace and it’s the gay one. (That sounds so cheesy)
Anywho that was long but apparently necessary? There’s my entire political opinion condensed into one horrendously long text post. If anyone knows how to split the text posts with the “read more” options on mobile give me a shout. Additional clarifications in the tags! To yon wee English person thanks for being so passionate about our rights and language but disliking a political party because they literally have terrorist ties ≠ being an extremist for the other also with terrorist ties. I’ve never been more offended by a person fundamentally agree with.

Sinn Fein just prevented a family for cremating their loved one and held a funeral with thousands of attendees for a member of the IRA... During covid... And the police are refusing to prosecute anyone involved. This is the same police that arrested people attending a protest in memory of a young boy who died horribly and the same country that violently attacked women holding a vigil for Sarah Everard. So many people have lost loved ones this year and weren’t able to say goodbye at a funeral because they were obeying covid restrictions. So many people held funerals anyway and rightly got prosecuted for breaching covid rules. This is being turned into a Nationalist Vs Unionist row when we should be furious at the police for facilitating a mass gathering during lockdown. It is appalling and everyone involved should be ashamed.
