Just a place for me to post about bugs I find and some I decide to keep! I live in Missouri so most of the bugs I post about will be from here.

I found this catepillar today while I was taking my dogsout for a walk. I'm pretty sure its Hypercompe scriboniaor a Giant Leopard Moth which is a gorgeous white and blackmoth with a bit of dark blue as well. I caught it in a small container until I can get its terrarium set up. I hope I can see it cocoon and turn into the full grown moth!

Its raining here today so I decided to use a spray bottle to give the inside of my cricket habitat its own light misting. I noticed though that when I did alot of them decided to find a spot to sit and have been sitting still and silent. Every so often they’ll move, chirp a little bit, or go to eat some of the new bit of apple I put in today but sitting still is what alot of them are doing. I’ve never misted the enclosure before so I wonder why this is. I’m gonna have to see if they do this again next time I mist them!

Just a short clip so you can see what a cricket chirping looks like up close!

Not alot of people take the time to look at bugs up close. Crickets are really cute! I’m pretty sure my crickets are  Acheta domestica or house crickets if anyone is interested.

Since I was talking about egg laying and the ovipositor earlier I figured I would show a picture I took so you can clearly see what I was talking about. The cricket on the left is a female (note the long black ovipositor) the one on the right is a male (no ovipositor).

I did some work on my cricket habitat today! Added some leaves, rocks, tree bark, and wood bits. Under the pile of leaves there is another piece of bark so the crickets have even more insulation.
