True story. I used to wear sunglasses in every picture and video. . . I claimed it was “my trademark” but the truth is it was because I was self conscious about being on camera. . . I want to talk about what is a serious matter for me (and should be for you) hence the scowl in this picture. . . Someone recently asked me which product of a certain type was best. This was a type of product I offer. . . I told him mine was and explained why. . . He told me “Of course you’d say yours is best!” as if it was some sort of gotcha where he had caught me or called me out or something. . . My response? “You’re damn right of course I’d say mine was best.” . . For some reason a lot people feel like they should be ashamed of what they offer, or should be modest and humble and say everyone else’s product is great too. . . I think that’s a load of bullshit. . . If you don’t think that you’re product is the best of its kid... if you aren’t proud enough of it to have such unwavering faith in it that when asked you don’t hesitate for a moment to exclaim it the best then you have no business offering it in the first place. . . You have a moral obligation to your customers, your business, and the world to make the absolute best product possible. . . The product and businessman that is not to be trusted is the one who won’t tell you his is the best. Why would you buy from someone that doesn’t even have that level of confidence? . . Stop being ashamed of what you offer. Be proud that what you provide is the best. And if you don’t think it is, then stop offering it until you do. #patience . . Probably the biggest barrier to success is lack of patience, or inability to deal with not having instant gratification. . . A lot of my business revolves around #SEO and this is probably one of the business models where not having patience will prevent you from having #success. . . Most of the time there is a big gap between action and result... build a link and not see the full effect of it for 3 months, make a change to your site not see the result in google for 2 weeks and so on. . . Most people can’t handle this and give up or do more stuff and either do work they didn’t need to, use resources they didn’t have to, or mess things up that they wouldn’t have had they just been patient and waited. . . I use SEO as an example to illustrate the larger point. If you can’t delay gratification and be patient you are going to limit your success in anything you do. . . There are a variety of techniques and practices you can use to train yourself to be less of a slave to your need for immediate satisfaction such as vipassana meditation and so on. . . However it just starts with accepting that you probably have a problem with this (I know I do) and making a commitment to train your mind to not need satisfaction and gratification instantly. #organized . . I am not an organized person by nature. I tend to improvise and let the urgent crowd out the important. . . I never had any issues with this though as I’ve had some success and done on for myself in most measurable ways. . . But it will only get you so far in #life and especially in #business . . The behavior that got me to $100 a day is not the same behavior that got me to $10k a month and that in turn is not the same behavior that got me to $100k a month and so on. . . However I never changed my organizational approach until recently. . . And the change it has made in my business and life has been remarkable. I mean I realize this shouldn’t have been a revelation but for me (and I suspect for many of you) it was. . . Just choosing a large goal of where I wanted to be, reverse engineering what it would take to get there, then pounding away on each of those until it is done has been miraculous for me. . .
