eddie arriving in la after abby left
eddie patting buck on the back while they’re looking at the old couple who died together
eddie holding buck’s hand while he’s crushed under the truck and ali has to watch it on tv (this is a joke, but also - he could’ve been more useful as a medic or by helping lift the truck, but he chose to just be there for buck instead, which is cute)
eddie and buck talking about chris going to summer camp after abby says “he stopped waiting for me a long time ago” about buck
eddie showing up right after tk walks away
eddie waking up from the coma after the bucktaylor kiss
eddie telling buck about the will right after bucktaylor officially start dating
eddie showing up right after buck invites tommy for a beer
eddie showing up at the first bucktommy date
eddie staying at the bachelor party after everyone else had to leave
eddie dancing in his underwear when buck shows up at his house after breaking up with tommy
i don’t know, you just gotta admire him for his immaculate timing when it comes to buck’s love life

the trials and tribulations of evan buckley is actually so much funnier in hindsight cause his entire storyline for this season really was just. emotional distress. like HE didn't do anything but first he got into a weird psychosexual relationship with his ancient bigot boss then he got cursed with boils then his first boyfriend broke up with him then his sister got kidnapped then his two best friends/husband and child moved 800 miles away then his dad died. evan buckley and the year-long tummy ache. I hope his first storyline in 9a is getting on anxiolytic drugs

deleted scene from the season in MY mind is that Buck is so pleased with the fact that Ravi asked HIM to go out for drinks the second time that he calls Maddie after and is like, "MADDIE! I made an actual FRIEND, I think! He asked ME to go out and asked for MY advice. And I only slightly REFERENCED Eddie. I did NOT say his name." and Maddie is genuinely very proud of him. It actually makes her a little emotional because she loves Buck so, so much. So she wipes her eyes and she says, "ahhh, I'm so glad! He'll be your new best friend in no time!" Buck chuckles and says, "well no, I doubt my heart will ever do jumping jacks when Ravi's around. My mouth has literally never gone dry when he accidentally brushes my arm either. Plus, I've never had a sex dream about him. So definitely NOT my new best friend." and Maddie just hangs up and texts him "sometimes I think I hit the wrong person with a hammer." and Buck just sends back "????"

“Can I ask you a question?” Buck blurts out as Eddie pours creamer into their coffee. It’s the algae creamer that Buck uses. Eddie picked it up when he was out grocery shopping last. Even though he was shopping for his house and not Buck’s. Even though he doesn’t use it. Eddie buys a different one for his. Some fancy caramel macchiato type stuff that he splurges on because Frank told him to treat himself and Eddie apparently can only do that with coffee creamer.
“Go for it.” Eddie hums in reply, clicking the tops shut and carrying the creamer bottles to the fridge. He’s wearing old sweats with a hole in the thigh. Bare toes peek out from the bottom. His shirt is old and loose, dipping at the collar. There’s an unknown stain on the chest. He’s got day old stubble growing on his jaw and his hair is sleep ruffled and soft. He looks beautiful.
“Wanna get married?”
Eddie fumbles the bottles, the fridge door open, and his head snaps over to Buck, mouth parted in surprise and eyes wide. He says nothing.
“Look, h-hear me out,” Buck steps forward, rubber spatula gripped tightly in both hands. The eggs he’d been about to cook for them for breakfast remain forgotten beside the stove. “We…we love each other. We basically live together. I’m pretty sure I’ve been helping you raise your son?” Buck releases a slightly manic laugh. “Eddie, I’ve never felt so comfortable or at home with someone. I’ve never known another home like I know yours. I’ve seen you at your absolute worst and your absolute best. The same applies for you with me. And…and we still love each other. We keep coming back to each other. And I…I do. You know? L-love you. As a best friend. As a work partner. As…as my person.”
Eddie is still staring. Mouth open. Eyes wide. Creamer bottles in hand.
“I have loved you since probably the moment I met you. And it’s only grown and blossomed into…” Buck gestures wildly around the room, “This! Eddie. We’re already married. Why don’t we make it official?”
Buck feels like he’s run a marathon when he finishes. His chest rises and falls rapidly. His heart is going crazy in his chest.
Eddie slowly turns, puts the creamers away, and shuts the door. Buck watches. Waits.
And then Eddie is walking towards him and Buck can’t read his expression. He always has known what Eddie is thinking. It’s one of the many things Buck loves about the man.
But right now? When Buck has bared it all out in front of them? He has no idea what Eddie is thinking.
“You…” Eddie trails off, shaking his head. “Buck.”
“I—“
“Am I allowed to at least take you on a single date before you propose?” Eddie cuts him off. And a beautiful smile is lighting up his face. It’s soft and sweet and all Buck’s.
“I…y-yeah. Of c-course.”
“Good.” Eddie sways forward, hand resting on Buck’s hip, and he brushes his mouth across Buck’s. A first kiss. Their first kiss. But it feels like one they’re exchanged thousands of times. “But for the recordyes. I’ll marry you.”
Buck grins back, looping his arms around Eddie’s neck and pulling him back in for another kiss. This one longer and deeper.
Eddie snorts when they pull apart, just enough to look at each other. “Proposing to me and we aren’t even together.”
“We’ve always been a little together.”
“Okay. That may be true.” Eddie grins, “Can you make breakfast now? I’m hungry.”

“NOTHING about this show has ever been truly realistic, but the relationships that were built within the 118 family”
ughh, exactly. i wouldn’t still be watching this show if it weren’t for the characters. i started watching for buddie, but the whole 118 dynamic is what made me enjoy the show overall. like, why would you waste that? i just don’t get it

Chim: Why did you put a normal-sized carrot in the bag of baby carrots?
Ravi: I learned that from Buck!
Eddie: I need the carrot lore, please.
Buck: That's something Bobby used to do to make me laugh.
Hen: Is there a reason behind it?
Buck, smiling: The little carrots needed the adult supervision.

The only thing that's kept me watching ngl ngl, I'll watch this dog shit show crumble till the very end if they keep giving us Ryan Guzman eye candy 🤷
I'm sorry, the finale sucks, the promotion is wild, but the fact that Eddie got not one, not two, but THREE dramatic reveals complete with superhero music in less than 4 minutes, then over half of the post-release stills included Ryan is hysterical to me. It's like they saw us being where's Eddie all season and we're like "god dammit he's here 🙄" and that is very very funny to me.

Maddie received no pushback for telling a caller to kill themselves, Brad saying that his captain hotshots or whatever is going to live so the guy can’t kill himself, “don’t jump” being thrown around at Buck when Gerrard was captain in the beginning and the captain at the end is Gerrard (I know he’s leaving), guy who struggled with suicidal ideation ends up having to sacrifice himself after finally deciding he wants to live, Athena is building her dream home just to lose her husband and sell it, Chimney on top of the roof before the Bobby funeral only for him to appear headed for a job he’s never really seemed like he’s wanted, Hen having a whole episode about being forgotten and it being okay to take up space deciding that she’s not going to be captain actually. guys. I think the recurring theme of the season is that it’s good to give up on your dreams and maybe dying is okay actually.

i think my problem right now isn’t even that i don’t expect them to eventually do buddie. my problem is that i actually still think they will, sooner or later, either because of pressure or because someone who isn’t a complete moron realizes they can’t actually edge the audience forever.
we already know they know that there’s nowhere else to go romantically with both buck and eddie. we’ve been watching them change their mind about romantic buddie and try to pull away from it, and then go back to it, for a while now. i do think they sealed their fate with queer buck and they know it, and something there’s truly no turning back from was going to happen during s8.
they spent the whole season building up to it, buck and eddie’s storyline was the only one that truly felt like it was building up to something. but then it didn’t build up to shit.
my problem is that they missed the conclusion so completely, didn’t deliver on anything they themselves made the audience expect. my problem at the moment is the fact that once they do get around to doing canon romantic buddie on screen, i’m very afraid they will fumble it emotionally, too.
and i used to be certain that if there was one thing they would always be careful about, it would be the emotional arcs.
then it kind of became clear that they got lost when it comes to the weight of the show itself. it’s going through an identity crisis, it doesn’t know what it wants to be. and that happens! shows can recover from that too. but this identity crisis didn’t have to happen while simultaneously disappointing and upsetting most of its audience.
i’m talking about bobby here, i’m talking about hen and maddie and chim and buck and how superficially their storylines have been treated, i’m talking about the complete pointlessness of whatever they were trying to do with eddie (and chris too) but then didn’t. every single character’s story feels unsatisfying now because they couldn’t commit for some reason. i’m not even going to talk about all the time they’ve wasted on completely pointless shit instead. what’s the point.
i just… don’t understand why? the ingredients are there. they have so many amazing components to work with but it’s almost like… they misusing them on purpose? because they are capable of building these great things but it’s like they get bored with them mid-process and just move onto the next shiny thing.
it’s incredibly frustrating for the audience, especially the people who are invested in the show as a whole and not just episodically. dare i say it’s disrespectful.
and i’m afraid that when we get to it, romantic buddie will be handled poorly too. i want to be proven wrong but after so many missed opportunities the trust that used to be there between the show and its audience needs to be rebuilt and i don’t know how they’re planning on doing that. i do think that maybe, maybe, handing over the reins to someone new could be a good idea. maybe what the show needs is a new showrunner who has the energy to see things through and actually cares that there are layers to this show that go beyond big emergencies, sudden passion for shock value, and comedy.
maybe. or maybe that’s just what 911 is now. and they know buddie is a goldmine and they’re going to milk it for what it’s worth for as long as they can, and then give us an unsatisfying conclusion or not give us one at all. i don’t know.
i’ve said it before: for me the heart is still there. i just hope they can find it before people both inside and outside of this show start to give up on it for good.
