Hello all ! I’ve collected the majority of all resources I’ve made over my time editing and compiled them into this rentry. Thank you to everyone who sent asks worried about my absence, I’m alright! I’ve simply shifted my focus away from editing and found this account has grown to be more of a burden to me than something I enjoyed.

I am still on tumblr!! Though rather inactive, I mainly post my own art (over at @brokenbard if you’re curious or wish to reach me, I’m also active in this editing server on discord :] come say hi)

If you happen to be looking for new favorite edit account to support I am more than happy to recommend the lovely @sutyii , a very talented and wonderful man.

I’m unsure of how well this post will end up doing due to my inactivity, but I hope some of you can find use for a madman’s collection of experiments.

Brokenbard began on September 12, 2023—and when I started, I never expected the incredible support I would receive. To everyone who liked, shared, or used what I made: thank you. I truly couldn’t be more grateful for the encouragement and kindness you’ve shown me.

From the beginning, I’ve been passionate about pushing the boundaries of what’s considered “normal” in our community, experimenting with different mediums and creative ideas. I hope that, in some small way, I’ve inspired a few of you to do the same. Don’t let trends or numbers define your work. The only real limit to what you can create is your imagination. There’s no right or wrong way to edit—so have fun, take risks, and try something new. :)

Sorry for bothering but how do you rentry buttons like these and these? Specifically the dimensions? Again sorry if this is a dumb question T-T /nf

For the first one, I searched up "scalloped rectangle/square" on Pinterest and then resized the results, then I used the font DotGothic16.

The second button base I actually drew myself.

I think a good rule of thumb for dimensions should be 3:1 at the very least.

If you are looking into making them, I'd genuinely suggest looking into pixel art yourself. Resizing images will make them look extremely blurry sometimes. A good website I recommend is pixil (link), its available online and you can even animate within the website.

hello, may i know how you decide on what colors to use? im typically struggling with my edits always being bright... 🫡 gorgeous work you have

I think it's different for everything, I pride myself in having (hopefully?) a wide variety of editing styles so I guess it depends.

One thing I wouldn't recommend is using gradient maps too much. I think this is a problem that repeats a lot (not with you in particular if it doesn't apply to you) which is why edits can look bland or two toned, even if there are other colors being used in the gradient map (blue and pink for example).

I think if you do use gradient maps, you should change the blending option to darken or lighten, which is what I usually prefer doing. It keeps a sense of continuity with the colors without totally overriding all of them.

And if you don't want your colors to be too bright, I'd say save that step for the very last first of all, and tamper around with Brightness, Contrast, and Exposure. Those are usually last steps of mine because if you do it early on and still want to shift your colors over, it can be more limiting / a little weird looking (a common issue I have is that my whites / greys start to tint to a color, which will make it look two toned).
