The Header
Who are the people in the header and why are they there?
Because of easy access I will post sites like Britannica and Wikipedia if you want to read more about them quickly and easily, but those are not my main sources which will all be put together at the end
From left to right:
Gustav Vasa:
The person who lead a rebellion against the Danish Union King, Christian II, and became King of the modern Swedish state in 1523. Kind of self explanatory as to why he's on the header but he also committed his own bloodbaths when he rained and quelled rebellions started against himself by farmers.
The painting used was made when he was king by an unknown artist as far as I've found out
If you want to read more about him head to britannica it's pretty good and in english:
Eric Mjöberg:
The man who inspired this whole blog with how fucked up he is. Eric Mjöberg was a man who in the early 1900s went to australia and dug up bones from aboriginal people, he then smuggled them to sweden.
Here's his wikipedia:
Selma Laman:
A Swedish Missionary woman who in the early 1900s went to the Congo with her husband among with others to spread christianity. They also collected human remains along with religious objects while they were there.
This one is a little tricky and I unfortunately don't have a good source for you guys to read about her yet as I find her wikipedia page lacking and I'm waiting for the book I bought to arrive. But I will make a longer post about her as I will all the people in the header.
Birger Furugård:
Arguably the first man to introduce Nazi ideals to Sweden in the early 1920s. He travelled to Germany and personally met with Hitler, he then created Sweden's own first Nazi party.
The sources for the images goes in the same order as the people: https://studyinsweden.se/blogs/2016/02/25/cornerstones-swedish-history/ https://alchetron.com/Eric-Mj%C3%B6berg https://skbl.se/sv/artikel/SelmaLaman https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birger_Furug%C3%A5rd
(These are just the sites where I got the images, they are not the makers of the images)
My own sources for the people, in same order as above: https://kalmarslott.se/en/utstallningar/gustav-vasa-a-history-of-power/
Ojala, C.-G. (2016). Svenska kyrkan och samiska mänskliga kvarlevor. In De historiska relationerna mellan Svenska kyrkan och samerna : En vetenskaplig antologi Band 2 (pp. 993–1028). Retrieved from https://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-288486
(The source above is also what informed me of Selma Laman but I'm waiting on the book that the source above referenced while mentioning her)

What Is This Blog?
Hi there! Welcome to the blog "Sweden's Shameful History", it was made and is maintained by a Swedish archaeological student
I made it because I know Sweden has done a lot of bad shit in the past that no one really seems to know about. I want to bring light to those things and the people they've hurt and continue to hurt today through this blog.
This blog will therefore have a lot of content such as hate crimes that might be triggering to people, I will try to tag as best I can, but since bad things is this blogs whole point there will be a lot of that!
I am also but a mere student and I don't doubt I will make mistakes, either in my facts or in trying to help people. If you find a mistake make sure to contact me, through asks or dms! (I might not see if they're just in the tags or comments) I'm always willing to learn and improve!
Since I will try to do actual research, aka actually reading books and articles to try and present the people and events as factually as possible this will take a looot of time. So don't expect regular posts:)
And please feel free to submit events or people from Sweden and Swedish history that you know about and think would fit with the blogs purpose!
This is the first time I've done anything like this so I might add more things or maybe rules and guidelines to this introduction post later but for now this is it
